The tripod can be used as a Monopod very quickly, and vice versa. Just bring all three legs together, takes about 1/2 a second. Never understood the need for a monopod. Especially now,, when all tripods are super fast to set up. Also the more weight on the bottom- the sturdier the shot.

+frankfoti The monopod shown in this video is much faster to work with and move around with than adapting a tripod.

Love the tripod but you're right, it's bulky compared to the monopod. I always wondered the what the point of a monopod was, though, and you explained it very nicely. Thanks!

Great tips. I use both too. The versatility and mobility of the monopod means that I tend use it the most for my videos.

For pans I'd go with a tripod with a fluid head.

+KTMbua Edit You could, but it wouldn't be quite as solid or steady as the monopod used in the video since that one has the 3 little feet on it.

Both. Monopod for most of the day. Tripod for certain points like the ceremony.

Is monopod good enough for video if camera does not have IBIS, and lens does not have OIS? I used my tripod as a monopod with 56mm f1.2 on my Fuji X-T20 but the footage is so jittery it can not be fixed in post. OIS in the lens does not make the footage stable, but it removes those small and fast shakes so the software stabilization does the rest very well. However, I do not have OIS in my primes, so I am looking for some solution for this. Now I am thinking about monopod versus gimbal, is it possible to achieve jitter free footage with a monopod?

Yes, definitely. What a monopod gives you is a stabilized shot (meaning no jitter), but keeps a realistic human movement to the shot. So, it looks like it was handheld, but without that annoying camera jitter if you're not using a stabilized lens.
