My father flew from Ankara to Wheelus, then to Texas el Paso via Canary İsland at 1959. He was a turkish officier to be trained on Ajax and Herculus. Later on I worked at Tripolli and tried to visit Wheelus but I did not succeed. Libya is beautifull and I lopve Libya.

My grandfather was stationed there around this time. He has passed away but I still have his pictures. This has been very helpful to me in identifying some of them! Thank you!!

I lived in Tripoli from 1953-1956. My father was in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. They worked with Crow Steers Shepherd who had a small office at Mellaha near Wheelus. I think my father's office was in Porto Benito. I attended elementary school on Wheelus.

nice, when I got to Wheelus in Aug 57, I stayed for 3 weeks before getting a flight on to Turkey. I got acquainted with 2 daughters of a man who was probably a civilian working with the air force - surname Hayes. thanks for the vid!

My Father, Col. Frank H. Mears commanded the 560th Air Group in '52/'53 and I have fond memories of that time.

In Sep 1957, I arrived here on a C121 enroute to Turkey...we had to wait for connecting transport...when an air force plane showed up by chance, I was one of three guys that did not make the flight, 3 days later, we fly out on BEA Ambassador AS57...a great airplane, we fly to Malta, stay the night, then to Rome to connect with PANAM to Turkey...what an adventure for a young farmboy :)

My dad told me stories of his time there that sound like that. And end with "what a great adventure for a farm boy!" Or something similar

Libya will return as the Great Jamahiriya soon and the traitors will return to the dustbin of history like their forefathers.
