Thank-you for this. My family is old Ottoman Istanbul Turkish on both sides, but on my mother's side, we had connexions with Egypt going back to Ottoman days. In the aftermath of the 1952 revolution and Nasser's nationalisation and confiscation of our property there, my mother and aunt often flew back and forth between Istanbul and Cairo. But, this is going back to the 1950s, 1960s and 1970s, so their airline of choice was KLM in the days when airlines flew those multiple stop, milk-run sort of routes. I flew to Istanbul back in February through that new airport and I honestly thought it was ridiculous and an homage to one man's ego. By the way, that one man reportedly doesn't bother flying to Istanbul through his monument to himself, but still prefers Ataturk Airport in Yesilkoy because of its closer proximity to the city!!!

I am sure everyone here would agree... The neo series aircrafts are the best single aisle aircrafts in the market.... They engines are so quiet and the cabin is comfortable and doesn't feel claustrophobic tbh

Well, in business-class, of course - yes ! But you can just as well press in some 240 seats and make it all economy; search for A321neo of Wizz Air, an Hungary-based LCC. The engines will be just as "silent", though - I give you that :-)

@@palomino73 indeed yes. I guess it depends on the airlines or what type of carriers they are, LCC or FSC. But after having worked at the rampsites for almost 5 years now, i still get surprised when a neo lands. I barely hear it and someone has to point it out to me to notice it. Also i think the PW engines are more quieter than the CFM. And also they are quiter than the max as well, for some reason🤷🏻‍♂️

Their economy seat on the neo A321 had the same entertainment screen as business and the seats were comfortable plus the food catering was in real dishes not plastic

Great flight report. I can’t wait to try out the new Istanbul Airport in the future. It’s certainly a big improvement compared to Ataturk! Don’t fancy the long walks though.

I was very disappointed with TK Business Class. I pre-ordered a vegetarian meal for my two flights on the route Kathmandu-Istanbul-Zurich....and no joke, I got served the same meal 3 times! 2 times on Kathmandu to Istanbul (which is super weird) and then another time on the separate flight to Zurich. The third time I declined right when they tried to serve it. Later I told the customer service and only got standard text reply messages. Will invest my hard earn money with other airlines in the future.

To any a320 family pilots. Am I correct in saying if you shut an engine down for taxi it’s the number 2 engine because you can then use the electric hydraulic pump to keep the yellow system pressurised?

actually, the electric pump is not needed when they have the PTU to keep both systems pressurised.

öf they have 2 EDP’s (engine driven pump) and 1 EMP (electric motor pump) plus the RAT, nothing like the modern A350 and A380

Thomas Mortimore yea, i meant only one edp on each engine. i think they have 2 electric pumps, one for blue sys and one for yellow. it doesn’t have to be a modern aircraft to have 2 edps, A330 is pretty old but has 4 edps + 3 electric pumps.

Sadly no matter how new and huge the new terminal complex is in Istanbul, you are still bussed from plane to transfer terminal after a long international flight, instead of using the aerobridge. What a shame ...

I flew on a 737-800 and 737 Max (before the first crash) back to back in same seat and didn’t notice much difference with the engine noise. It was LOT Polish airlines incase people were wondering

Both the plane and the catering seemed set up for longer flights, though they have to make you believe that a Business Class seat is worth the extra money for a 2-hour trip. Other Turkish Airlines videos seem to agree that they have a good product.

Turkish short haul Business is one of the best in the world. And now that the long haul aircraft have the new direct isle access hard product, their long haul product will also rise to that level. Just have to wait until the aircraft are airborne again.

After the opening there were some complains that pilots were confused on navigating. So first year they closed every concourse one by one in order to add new signs and lines. During that time the bridges were operating at 60% capacity. It might be during that time. Otherwise 95% are arriving and leaving from the bridges.
