Didn’t know anything about Trisha, but this video in the Tate dungeons opened a door last month: total inspiration. Thx for upload. Her phrasing is exquisite; her movements so fluid, even if her hips are quite static -such a departure from Cunningham.

This is pure art, I would argue with people trying to disagree. Honestly, it gives new reasons to live it is art in it's purest form. Trisha Brown is such an inspiration, she moves like an angel! Anyways this video is so pure and beautiful love it!

Hi, I have an essay to write about Trisha brown. If someone said that Trisha Brown wasn't a good choregraph or artist, what arguments would you give me to prove them wrong ?
@gabrawlyos3 жыл бұрын
@@laetilacrevette5172 she broke the law! She was a significant part of a change, a new movement, a new art. This forms, this shapes, this ways that the body pass trough... says a lot about the same things on society's thoughts and acts. She speaks with her body, inspire others to do the same and gave us some ways how to practice that.

Can someone tell me what this performance is about? What does it mean? Thanks.

It's in the title. It is a very exact sequence of movements but it is flowing and simple-seeming that you could easily miss it without the slow replay. It's about itself, that is, the beauty of the everyday movement it embodies.

@@billcook6866 Bill you put that so beautifully. Couldn't have said it better. A bit of the artist's (Babette Mangolte) intention are written here www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks/mangolte-trisha-brown-water-motor-t14764

I figured out the story- a poor woman gets her limbs chopped off in a horrible motor boat incident and then gets them sewn back on and films herself moving for the first time in 20 years.

You. Win. The. Internet. This is one of the most ballsy, hilarious takedowns ever. Underneath your comment is the idea that if a performing artist has to explain what they're doing, the communication between artist and audience is already broken. If a dance needs an explanation, in this case a slow motion replay, that explanation ends up being part of the dance itself, and ends up overtaking the performance . When a dance has an accompanying explanation, or a slow motion replay attached, it's already an artistic compromise. The dancer has technical prowess, but what does the dance mean?

seems like just a bunch of movements without theme--didn't watch whole thing though
@jadejaguar694 жыл бұрын
She is pivotal in shaping moderb dance world. Transforming how we see form in movement, she took everyday mundane gestures and extended it until it created a cohesive structure. There is no "theme" to it, it exists as a fluid moving sculpture
