apart from the beautiful vocals and lyrics, the video is very meaningful. she pulling out the outfits she wore through her career… just beautiful. also, she said on the zane lowe’s interview that this song is exactly how she’s feeling so she didn’t write it just for the movie. insane.

She didn’t have any of her own feelings in mind when she wrote it but I think subconsciously she did ya know? Cuz she openly said that she had no intention of making it about her at all. Somehow it makes it more magical

i feel like this song cld be in the context of barbie exploring the ‘real’ world and she feels sadness for the first time because she has been living in a fantasy dream all her life. the line where she says ‘don’t tell my bf it’s not what he’s made for’ it cld be in the context of ken wanting to help barbie but he too has never experienced it and is also not mean to go out into the ‘real’ world. and it’s so sad to think of this, being in a situation where ur seeing someone suffering but u can’t do anyth to help. this is sad af. (i might need therapy for coming up of this) ANWAYS BILLIE SLAYED 👏👏👏

I just watched Barbie on Monday and at the end and credit scenes, where this song was playing, I thought "is this Billie"? Because it sounds so much like her but at the same time it's different. Billie has definitely grown as an artist, being a fan of hers from when I heard "Ocean Eyes" and "sHE'S brOKen" in 2015 to now, I can't wait to see how she progresses even more as an artist.

This is such a beautiful song. Billie Eilish has been trying many new ways of singing, but whenever she does her airy version, she always adds a creepy effect to it, no matter what song. Lovely? Sad but creepy effect. everything i wanted? Slightly creepy. my future? Not sad, but happier, still creepy. No Time To Die? Super creepy. Even bad guy has a slight ghostly sound to it. But this song? This is a sad song, yet has no creepy effect to it. Not the tiniest bit, unlike her usual sad songs. That is why this sounds so different. Edit: I have said that I generally don't find promoting stuff through comments but because this is a cover of this song itself, can I ask you guys to check out my cover of What Was I Made For? It could be played in a scene before she meets up with the supposed granddaughter of the creator of the very 1st Barbie doll in the final film. I saw from 1 TV ad/trailer for 1 other scene where Margot's Barbie says that she can't do anything right. The difficulties of being in the Real World are getting too much for someone who always lived in a supportive, pink, & positive world.

In the video there are all her old past outfits and “eras” since she was 14 🤧... her “old herself” when she became successful when she was just a kid and the rain/storm after she put her Grammy 2020 outfit there .. said it all.. bc her life has changed completely after that night when she made Grammys history but also charts etc history .. too much success = so much hate from the world when she was only 18, she was just a kid doing her own art speaking and representing a generation but also many generations that had the same problems like her and that’s it.. she was also growing up, one of the hardest time of our life at that age, now she is in her 20s and she said she is no happy anymore and she lost herself again… bc when you are in your early 20s , you become another person, an adult and it’s overwhelming everything and you feel yourself falling apart like she said like drowning .. this is the part where in the music video she tries to keep the clothes up, she tries to hold everything together (herself) but the wind and rain (life, inner growth and toxic society) won't let her … in our 20s we have to find our adult self, who you want to be , and what do you want to do and you feel lost … 💔 And then she “closed” her past her adolescence at the end of the video, she walks towards the future bringing her past with her and above all not forgetting the evening of the Grammys 2020.. Piece of art 🖼️ she is a real artist. Minimal art both in music and music video always, but so meaningful , deep and emotional. The best. ❤️

This scene from the movie broke me like with the montage and the part where it was like take my hands close your eyes now feel and like even listening to it now it makes me so emotional it’s such a great song not just for the Barbie movie but for life in general when it gets hard , billie Ellis his such an amazing singer and songwriter I love her voice and the way she sings this with so much emotion I feel . I'm so glad you reacted to this, I'm so obsessed with this song already! It feels weirdly nostalgic, and i can't put a finger on it, like I've heard it before?? Idk, it sounds so familiar! And you're so right about not really being able to tell if she's in her chest or head voice, I assume it's because she's so breathy, you can't distinguish the lightness of her head voice as her chest voice is also so light. It feels nice though, it's like what you would imagine a cloud singing to sound like in a weird metaphorical way 😂

I tried singing it... I have a open soft tone..but the vocal control is really something!! And billie has great vocal control in that airyness... Thats how it should be in this song, i think..cuz its sets the mood.. I loved the song so much, its become my fav of billie..😊

Omg! That’s such a good take; switching from head to chest. I’ve been trying to figure out how she stays breathy while singing head voice and it’s bc she’s singing high in chest voice 🤦🏾‍♀️when I go to sing it I’ve been doing head voice and definitely haven’t been getting the breathiness
