Welcome to my tritone substitution guitar lesson! I'll show you how the tritone sub guitar works. You'll learn some great tritone substitution voicings. I'll visualize the differences between a altered chords and their tritone substitution guitar voicings.
I'll also show you what scale to use for the tritone substitution improvisation. We'll then integrate it in a II V I using the stritone sub. I'll show you 3 Licks (you get 10 when you pruchase the lesson material) and explain all the theory and musical tools I use. I play through the tritone substitution gutiar licks at fast and slow tempo and explain them.
I've also made a tritone substitution backing track at various tempos, so you can play along and practice your II sub V I gutiar licks.
I'll also show you the tritone substitution scale and its modes, so you'll see the relationship it has to the melodic minor scale.
You'll learn tritone substitution guitar chords from the E-string and the A-string and we'll pack it in a complete II subV I, so you learn how good voice leading works.
After this lesson you'll be able to do some nice tritone substitution improvisation and play the correct voicings.
Please give this video a fat thumbs up, share the love and the knowledge and subscribe my channel! Check out my II V I Playlist here on KZfaq!

Something I just remembered. When analyzing some Charlie Parker solos, I noticed that he would use tritone substitutions sometimes in a four chord cycle of fifths.

Thanks, Barry! I remember what a revelation it was back then, when I found out that all those scales were just modes of the melodic minor scale. I like showing my students the chords to visualize the relations. That's always a game changer for them. They know each of those chords, but most just never found the correlation between them. Sometimes the simplest things change everything 😊. I consider it my job to emphasize these things.

@@GuitarversumSandraSherman You are very welcome Sandra, it’s getting hot in Phoenix, but it is still bearable. I’m doing very well and I hope that you and your loved ones are happy and healthy. Yes, I plan to go on vacation this summer; every year I go to San Carlos, in Sonora, Mexico. The Lord willing, in July I’ll be by the beach, fishing, jogging, swimming and playing my guitar under the palm trees. I really enjoy watching your videos while I’m over there, looking at the ocean, hearing the sea waves crashing and watching the dolphins go by. Thank you again for being who you are, so genuine and lovely.

Again an excellent lesson, Sandra - as usual 😊.Thank you so much for your effort. And you explain so well 👍. Tritone substitution has been a neglected topic for me because I didn’t manage to get started, was too complicated for me. But now, with the help of your great explanations, I will dig into it - opens my mind - and will keep me busy for a long time. The tabs and backing tracks are very, very helpful. One question: What you play at the beginning of the video (00:00-00:28) is not the 10 licks but an improvisation? Thanks, Birgit

I´m glad I was never able to delve TOO deep in theory .. I think I would be overthinking something that would better come up on itself, naturally, you know ? And I do have a classical guitar upbringing since 1972 or so... it was not jazz, but anyway.. you get the picture
