Back in the day working in garages , and we drove hundreds of different cars the stag was the only one we drove the long way home to its owner , no trouble because they were serviced, not fussy to drive and easy , easy to service , very comfortable for the day , ticks a lot of boxes,

Got to disagree about the aesthetics, I think its one of the best looking cars ever

The zips were so you could change the T-bar cover. They did perish.

And ease of production. Not easy to get a tight fit if you have to sew it together in situ. And the zipper slider is at the B post end...

The were well equipped as standard so real no need to spec extras. All have power brakes, steering and windows. And discs on front. They are also very easy to drive much like a modern car and yes, engine sound is incredibly satisfying

A seventies couple should be Terry and June! Love the V8 soundtrack, Carmine was my favourite colour. The warning lights were known as “all systems go” , not pizza !

The first models that came to America were troublesome for the gasket and water pump issues but the later models were quite nice - but still quirky maintenance wise as compared to our steadfast and boring American cars. The Stags were very good candiates for a Ford 289 small block swap, upgraded cooling and brake systems. I think it's a very attractive car as a GT and quite comfortable and Sarah's right about the Stag colors - they're gorgeous and really show off the beautiful shape. The yellow is lovely (my neighbor had a purple one that was very nice.)

I commuted to work daily in my Stag in the 90s , owned it for 15 years and did a full detailed rebuild . I've had a 6cyl fixed head E type for the last 12 years and can honestly say yes the Stag is definitely the more comfortable car, maybe a better comparison would be the the v12 roadster ??

The Car was born in the era of Triumph Motors independence and was faithful engineered to look to the future. When driving in 2023 .. We can experience the forward thinking with the Sixties technology and charm… British Leyland was a catastrophe that destroyed any hope further development, Hell, the management couldn’t even quality control what they had already achieved.. But we have the surviving cars to savour in this age of the computer controlled battery driven soulless monsters that pass as transportation

My Dad worked for what had become BL we had an S plate final year car as his car was smashing! Dads was bright red with a red hardtop and a black rag top the zip is for when u add the hardtop! and the headlining attaches to it!!

The Stag V8 is not two 4-cylinders bolted together (despite what Jeremy Clarkson said), rather the later 4 cylinder motors were essentially half a V8. The V8 came first.
