Finally got the first service done on my Triumph Trident 660. There were 2 things I noticed that were different. First, the throttle was more sensitive and instantaneous. This was a plus for me, as it made downshifting and blipping smoother. Second, the temperature gauge was recalibrated and it now settles at 3 bars, where it used to settle at 4-5 bars. Skip to 10:09 to see some acceleration tests.

The Trident feels awesome after the first service. I like the tightened throttle response!

Everyone who rides this bike for the first time seems to complain about this so, it's nice to see that this "resolved" after the first maintenance. I'm not sure if you stayed under the recommended RPM's the whole break-in period; if so, do the extra RPM's make a world of difference in the performance/feel of the bike?
@pseugoat
@pseugoat 3 жыл бұрын
@@xaraphyn the bike is definitely more enjoyable north of 5000 rpms. Throttle response is good now, but not as snappy as the Street Triple’s… I wish it was. It’s not going to be as sporty as the Street Triple but it is more comfortable IMO. The Trident is more of a jack of all trades.

@@pseugoat I have been riding a V-Star 650 for a while now and the Trident will be my first Street bike so, I'm pretty sure it will be "snappy" enough for me. Great vid and thanks for sharing! :)

I think it’s all in your head. I’ve got 1200 miles on my Trident, the throttle is just as shitty as it ever was. Still a huge lag when you twist it and it still hangs when you engage the clutch. Hopefully the new MT-09’s will finally hit dealerships by next spring. The Trident’s engine and smooth drivetrain are near perfect but that throttle ruins an otherwise perfect bike. Sad.

I don't know what the hell anyone is talking about with this throttle response thing? My GF has an MT07 that I rode the other day just to see and she took out my Trident and neither of us really noticed much of a difference between the two. I have 36 years of riding experience and I've owned allot of bikes over the years and until I herd about this on the internet about a month ago I had no clue there was a problem. Maybe I got lucky with my Trident because I don't feel any delay in the throttle at all 🤷‍♂️
@tg8150
@tg8150 2 жыл бұрын
It’s heavily documented. It hangs and has an obvious delay. The MT-07 throttle is light years better. Has a better engine too IMO. I’ve owned both.

I notice it most when blipping for downshifts. If I got the quick shifter then it would probably take care of most of my complaints.
@ChrisWolf75
@ChrisWolf75 2 жыл бұрын
TG I'm sure it is but mine doesn't seem to do it I don't know what to tell you🤷‍♂️. I crack the throttle and the response is instant and not much different then her MT07. I mean maybe a tiny tiny little hair of a difference but not enough that I would have really noticed until I saw all these videos online pointing it out.

Just a tip, you don’t have to pull in your clutch lever so far in to shift while accelerating. That’s what’s making you jerk back and forth during your first couple shifts. Give it a try shifting with one third or less pull of your clutch lever as your foot lever up shifts. And flick off the gas just a little too. Will make your shifts smoother/seamless and quicker.
@pseugoat
@pseugoat 2 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the tip. I have shifted like that on accident. Is it safe to shift without pulling in the clutch fully? How do you know the minimum pull before you’re able to shift up? Thanks
@TK-gd9td
@TK-gd9td 2 жыл бұрын
@@pseugoat you don’t have to pull it in a lot. The amount the clutch is pulled in increases how much distance when the clutch plates disengage. So for quicker and smoother shifts youre only disengage by a couple millimeters of space between the clutch plates by pulling it in just little enough. Also be sure to cut throttle for split sec while you do this too. Some ppl even do clutchless shifts by just cutting throttle.

@@pseugoat If you don't mind spending the money you could buy the Trident 🔱 optional quick shifter. They offered it to my girlfriend's daughter when she bought her Trident 🔱. I didn't recommend it to her at first because she needs to learn how to smoothly shift the normal way before she jumps to installing a convenience device like a quick shifter. Eventually, I'll recommend she get one but, best to learn without one first.

@@prabhavshikerkar7778 I noticed the Trident will clunk a lot more if you are going too fast for that gear when downshifting or not shifting smoothly and quickly on the upshift. Seems to help not to drop back down into first until I am at a crawling pace and in 2nd at a relatively low speed. Either this or you need to rev before the downshift. Is this what seems to be causing the problem for you or is yours just always clunky?

you need to learn bike engine and transmission mine I picked up almost 2 weeks ago needs first service but first 4 rides it was there then learned to always back off on throttle for a millisecond on upshifts and give quick blip of throttle on downshifts and no more problems, no quick shifter needed as this what quick shifter does that's why it has wires to control timing ( guess on my part ) but it takes care of that for you but you can do the exact same thing without and gearbox will get better with age

In the UK the first service is free. Why no Triumph gear selector _quickshifter) - essentail for the Trident. Also why are you cancelling the indicators when they are self cancelling. Anyway I enjoyed the ride home and your self control for keeping the speed under 80mph, I'd have been well over the ton.
