At the beginning of the 1930s, the mighty class 241 A steam locomotives appeared on the rails of France. In the "golden" days of travel before the Second World War, they hauled heavy express trains between Paris and the Atlantic ports of Cherbourg and Le Havre, and between Paris and Basel. The famous Arlberg-Orient-Express was also one of their jobs there. After the end of the war, they mainly drove between Paris and Strasbourg and Paris and Basel until 1965. The 241 A 1 in the Mulhouse Railway Museum and the 241 A 65, the largest operational steam locomotive in Europe, have been preserved in Switzerland.
