Here's my two cents on IVs, I like having 4* IVS because I know I'm not gonna find anything better and feel comfortable powering it up. If it's less than a 4* I always think "what if I get a better one?" So that's why I like 4* IVs.
@k.b.5079
@k.b.5079 2 жыл бұрын
Exactly! The only time I give it a pass is when it’s shiny, and even then it depends on the circumstances. For example, my “lucky” Shiny Mewtwo is a perfect 12. I will not power it up knowing that I can easily get something better, especially since it doesn’t even have any legacy move attached to it. So when SB and PS Mewtwo come back, I will be ready to catch one and if it comes out to be a Shundo, it’s over. Time to farm a million XL candies
@richterbelmont2544

It depends, for example, you power up a 98% Pokemon and find a 100% later on. Just means you have two powerful Pokemon to power up. In the case of raids, it's good to have multiple high powered Pokemon like Mewtwo or Machamp.

But you wouldn't go with a 0IV pokemon anyways. 300 to 315 ATK is 5% increase or 4.76% decrease from 315 to 300. 312 to 315 ATK is 0.96% increase or 0.95% decrease from 315 to 312. On top of that it's easier to get a 15/12/12 than a 15/15/15, both will have the same ATK though.

Excellent video! Only thing I would add is the IVs of pokemon used for maximum DPS in raids. Since one of the ways you gain energy for charged moves is based on how much damage the raid boss does to you, having 15 Atk/0 Def/15 HP allows you to gain energy faster (with the disadvantage of not lasting as long in battle). Essentially makes it more of a glass cannon, but can be really useful in doing solo/duo/trio raids on powerful raid bosses.

@@thedude1331 You really shouldn't be trying this unless you're regularly doing challenge raids, while this works in theory you might also die after getting off one less charge move which can yank your DPS. I've been thinking about your comment a lot for the last three weeks. I've never seen anyone else express this, so it's really stuck with me. Is it possible to actually see in which cases this will be advantageous? As Unknown said above me, it seems risky to follow with something like Rampardos that is already glassy. How much energy gain difference would one expect by going with a 15/0/15 versus a 98%?

4* is absolutely essential for master league. In mirror matches, you need that attack advantage to win cmp ties, which is when they fire off a charge move at the same time and the higher attack goes first. If you lose that, you basically lose the matchup unless you sneak in an extra attack which happens randomly. There are specific matchups that require at least certain amount of defense and hp to be viable, but 15 attack is a must.

Great tip for any trainers. One thing I would add that pairs with this is once your pokemon reaches lvl 30 then the increase in cp significantly drops while the amount of stardust becomes much more expensive. So if you're a casual player and don't play PVP then having more pokemon at lvl 30 is more useful and less costly than having a few pokemon at lvl 40. One other thing is the reduced stardust from lucky pokemon makes a HUGE difference. It would cost 1600 LESS stardust to lvl up a lucky pokemon from lvl 3.5 to 30 than it would cost to lvl up a regular pokemon from 23.5 to 30.

It's not that they're not as good as a 2 or 1 star, it's that they aren't that much better. For pokemon with higher stats, a 15 point boost to all stats won't be as impactful as a pokemon with lower base stats. It's an additive bonus, not a multiplier, so the point is to not overthink which pokemon to power up. While I don't have a problem with powering up lower IV pokemon, I don't have a very big group to raid with, so the pokemon I do power up will have higher IV's and since the resources aren't free, I typically go for upper 90's to 100.

It's exactly the same I'm the main games. Unless you do PvP, IVs don't really matter. And even then they only matter slightly. It's the difference of surviving an attack from a specific pokemon where you would die if you had less than 31 IVs in HP/Def or killing a pokemon in 1 hit if you have 31 in Atk or not. But I don't know how many situations come down to 1 point in the main games.

Great introductory explanation of stats and levels. I'll try to explain the complicated version for those who are interested. Be warned this is going to get real nerdy. I will be approaching this in a way that you only need to know two things about a particular species, it's base stats which are easily available online at places like SilphRoad, and the Combat Power Multiplier (CPM) that corresponds to that pokemon's level, a chart of which can also be found easily online. Firstly, HP isn't a stat, Stamina is the stat and the HP is a function of your Stamina and a thing called CPM or CP Modifier. The CP Modifier is a value ranging from 0.094 (level 1) to 0.84529999 (level 51). It should be noted, that there isn't a formula that can be used to determine this, it's a unique value for each level. Again, the chart is published many places online. CPM is extremely important for a few reasons, it determines your HP with this formula: HP = (Base Stamina + Stamina IV) * CPM. It's also used in the games damage calculation but that's a bit more complicated and involves a lot of different interactions between the two pokemon. Here it is: (note: this formula is the PVP formula, however the PVE formula is slightly different where you just change (16/25) to 0.5) Damage = Floor[(16/25)*MovePower*((Base Attack + Attack IV)/(Base Defense + Defense IV))*(Attacking CPM / Defending CPM) * STAB * EffectModifier] + 1 I'll explain each part. Floor is a simple function that just removes any decimal place off the end of a floating point number and transforms it into an integer value. So 4.1 becomes 4. 4.9 becomes 4. You get the idea. Base Attack and Attack IV are of the Attacking Pokemon while Base Defense and Defense IV are of the the defending pokemon. Same with the CPM values for each. STAB just adds a x1.2 modifier if the move type = the attacking mon type, so it can either equal 1 or 1.2. EffectModifier is a value of either: 1 (neutral), 1.6 (super effective), 0.625 (not very effective), 0.390625 (immune). Since many mons are double typed, you just take both values and multiply them. For example, lets say Talonflame gets hit by a rock move. Rock is super effective against fire and flying, so you do 1.6 x 1.6 = 2.56. So the EffectModifier value in this interaction would be 2.56. Then at the end of the formula, you add 1 which ensures that every move will always inflict a minimum of 1 damage no matter what. Okay that covers CPM and damage. Now lets look at how CP is calculated. Note that I'm using Sqr() to mean square root of. Here's the formula: CP = ((Base Attack + Attack IV) * Sqr(Base Defense + Defense IV) * Sqr(Base Stamina + Stamina IV) * (CPM ^ 2))/10 As you are probably starting to see this hidden CPM value that Niantic has attributed to each 'level' is really important throughout pretty much every aspect of the game. I've been working on coding a clone of GBL recently so yeah... It has been very eye opening lol.

If it was a 15% instead of a 15 point difference it would be more impactfull, specially since, like the comment above mine says, a low stat getting a 25%/15 point difference isn't gonna help much, since it is already very low. A 15% boost every time would increase a bunch more of the mons good stats and not so much of the bad stats, since it doesn't even make that much of a difference if it's that low already. I can see why it still wouldn't be perfect but I prefer my hundo having a bigger impact on the Pokémon good stats

It is higher, yes. But is it of significance? No. If it's for gym defense, I can bring 0 IV somewhat powered up but not yet maxed machamp to the battle and it takes roughly the same amount of time to bring down the chansey. And if it's for raid, pressing invite and random send to anyone online and probably get an extra 1 person will always bring more dps than any IV difference could make. Master League pvp is the only place where having perfect IV matters (compared to the other two scenarios I mentioned above) the most, though, again, if you bring mons that are 96 or 98% (15 attack IV preferred), the performance will still be quite comparable.

In many cases the difference between a 98% and 100% pokemon in PVP is 0. Especially the defence vs attack stat break points for the mirror match, there are many non-perfect pokemon that will faint with exactly the same number of fast attacks as their perfect counterpart, while dealing exactly the same damage.

I am a little sad break points never came up in this video and the damage was just stated as those increases because it has a lot more nuisance than that. Sometimes you might be using a 14 attack Pokémon vs a 15 attack both maxed out and that would show mathematically to be less than 1% difference but in practice that can be more than a 5% damage loss. Granted i agree that isn't a big diffreance but i think breakpoints should've been mentioned because Pokémon damage is rounded and only when you hit certain values does your damage increase

@@hao2000ki I understand what you're trying to say but i think you missed the exact point i'm getting at. Break points aren't a thing as much in pvp in terms of how that phrase is used in pve. In PvE you use break points to check that a Mewtwo with 15 attack on X pokemon with X value def can do 6% more damage than a mewtwo with 14 attack. In PvP i've never though about break points as much as just optimal IV's. Breakpoints are numbers and values that trigger the games rounding and that isn't as much targeted in pvp more just overall rounding the stats out.

@@rsd050291 i mean breakpoints and bulkpoints are used in the exact same way in pvp, except they have more value because you are in a 3v3 scenario where you can often find yourself barely winning or barely losing the match, and that can be down to, yes an optimization of ivs, using breakpoints. reaching a breakpoint in pvp, provided you have similar bulk, isn't only valued at a 6% increase in dps. dealing enough damage to take out an opponent before they can use their charge move to deal heavy damage to you can often win you the match on the spot, so i don't know how you can say it's not as much of a thing in pvp. plus, i pretty much only hear people talk about breakpoints in pvp usage because for pve, you generally just power up your highest iv if you have the resources or a mixture of high iv/high level/lucky if you want to save on resources. breakpoints in pve is simply way too unnecessary trying to compare every raid boss's defense with your pokemon's attack, just to shave off maybe 2 seconds of the raid timer, which often doesn't even benefit your rewards at all

I would say that if you find a Pokemon with perfect IVs then cool power that one up amongst all the other Pokemon that are of the same name. However I do agree that as long as it's got three stars and none of the individual stats are extremely low then go ahead and power that one up too especially while you're still working your way up to level 50. This way you still have something that is stronger than most other Pokemon of the same name however you're not powering up the weakest one to where you have to be a much higher level in order to even think about standing a chance of winning.

Purify Shadow Pokemon that you don't plan on actually using, when you have a research mission to do so. You could also purify them and check them if you're near the cap of how many Pokemon you can have. This way you can purify them and Chuck them and the next time that you encounter A team rocket you can have hopefully more pokeballs depending on how many Pokemon you have purified. I know it at least give you one more for having purified a few however I don't know how much that can go up and I don't understand what the hero thing is. Great job, Nick. Remember this topic from your video back in 2016. One thing to add though, IVs only really matter in PVP. For raids, Team Rocket or anything else that's PVE related you don't need to worry about IVs. You can go in with the worst possible IVs if you want as long as your Pokemon has the right moves for whatever it's attacking. In PVP IVs matters in terms of survivability and when your paired up in the mirror (Azumarill vs Azumarill, Dialga vs Dialga, etc).
@abrielmauerman7278
@abrielmauerman7278 2 жыл бұрын
Even still, those IVs in mirror matches can still be worked around for the most part. If I learn that I'm winning the speed test for charge moves in an azu mirror match, doesn't matter how much more bulky they are, I win against them because my charge moves get to go first. Or if I know they're winning speed advantage, I can just work on trying to get extra energy when I know they'll try to attack so I can take the lead later. I think way too many trainers worry about ivs first without working on skill, and honestly ivs are the last 2% of things to worry about in battling. You rarely run into situations where you absolutely know your optimized bulk ivs actually made a difference. People should focus on counting moves, learning to bait shields, and figuring out what kind of pokemon the enemy might have based off their lead and switch in before they try to crunch ivs.

The most important part of attack IVs is fast move damage breakpoints for both raids and pvp. Since damage is calculated with decimals but HP uses integers. For example, with a fast move like dragon breath which does a little damage and hits quickly, sometimes having 1 extra point in your attack IV is just enough to get the damage to round up to do 1 extra point of damage which is huge for a move that attacks so quickly. This affects raids only sometimes and is more important with moves that hit quickly like dragon breath In pvp a huge example of this is the dialga mirror matchup, where a dialga having a high enough attack IV or the opposing dialga having a low enough defense IV makes it so one dialgas dragon breath does 4 damage while the other does 5. This results in one dialga being left with around 1/3 of its HP left outside of these cases the attack IV does not matter very much Edit: Forgot to say this was a great video!

I have a bunch of pokemon that are far from perfect, but I really enjoy playing with them, even in the ML and they put in a ton of work and get me some clutch wins. Now I understand why a lot better. One thing that really annoys me that I haven't heard anyone touch on is the way a 100% IV pokemon will often fall outside of being useful. For example... I managed to get a 100% IV Registeel. If I power it up to level 50 it will max out at 2766 CP... too low to be useful in ML, but if I power it to 2500 for UL, it only gets as high as 48%. So why would I bother to grind out more candy to power it up. There is sits... just a useless lump of perfect steel. I have a bunch of hundos that fall into the same mess.

I'm pretty sure that at Niantic, when it came to attack mattering more is because the speed stat is calculated into the attack. In the main series games, we have 6 stats: attack, special attack, defense, special defense, stamina, and speed. They lumped the speed into the attack stat when they made it only 3 IVs: attack, defense, health. Personally, I don't see an issue with purifying pokemon if they feel like it. Some people don't like the idea of pokemon being in pain, my little brother and wife as an example. They purify when possible. I've also purified pokemon just because, like the Apex Lugia. I was NEVER planning to use it in raids and personally would rather use a purified one in PvP. Also, the base IVs are used in Charge Move Priority, not the overall damage. So a shadow pokemon with 0 in attack would lose CMP to a normal mirror of the same pokemon with 1 in attack. One more thing, at level 31, you can go past 40 on a pokemon with XLs if you have them now. My wife's account shows the ability to do so, she's 38. She just can't go to full level 50 yet.

This whole comment is under-explained and vague, and it’s bothering me. Why would you “rather” use a purified Pokémon in pvp rather than a shadow Pokémon? Shadow mons are flat out stronger than purified mons no? Also their are no “base ivs” only base stats and ivs, so can you clarify what you’re even talking about when you say “base ivs are used in charge move priority?” Lastly, what do you mean a mirror of a shadow Pokémon? Are you trying to say purified? And what does “lose cmp” mean? All these abbreviations and slang made your what could have been a useful comment into something confusing and not very clear or helpful
@BeardManTimLaird
@BeardManTimLaird Жыл бұрын
@@sweetpeaches6979 In PvP, there is no Speed stat, so they base who wins a tie with your attack stat. So if you get to your charge move at the same time as your opponent, the one who gets to have their move go first gets what is called "Charge Move Priority" or "CMP". In regards to Shadow vs Regular, a shadow gets a 20% attack increase on top of the output damage (and a 20% defense decrease as well.) This does not impact your base stats/IVs other than the amount of damage you can output. So in a mirror match, like a swampert vs a shadow variant, the one with the higher attack stat would win because it can hit it's attack first. As for my preference on having a Purified Lugia, it really is because of bulk. That 20% defense debuf adds up overtime and if Lugia is being hit by neutral damage, you can last longer to win. People get caught up on damage output and never look at the overall potential. In raids, damage means faster completions, but doesn't necessary mean the same with PvP. Which is why people are always looking for IV spreads of like 0 in attack and 15 in HP and Defense.

Taking your Azumarill example... if those two fought each other and both used the same move that did 40 damage, the Azumarill with the higher attack stat would need to land 40 hits in order to knock out the other Azu, whereas the Azumarill with the lower attack only needs to attack 18 times. This was eye-opening, thank you!

I just love them for the collection aspect of the game. The lack of solution, or even effort, by Niantic for that dex is disappointing. I made myself a whole graph of functional hundos as well.

@@SnooWords97 It's quite unfinished as Niantic only started collecting data on them at a certain point and they have seemed to indicate there is not any plans to address it.

4:06 it might actually be a bit higher than this. Because if a pokémon has 15 atk and 0 def IVs, it will actually charge energy faster than a 100% IV pokémon, because it's taking more damage in battle, thus, charging energy faster
