Finally, a video explaining more fully the Reverse Smith Morra. I play the Morra as White and have been playing the Reverse Morra against the English as Black, but always feeling like I'm playing a tempo down. These moves show how Black gets the initiative. Thank you.

Brilliant - best response against the English I've seen - allows for flexibility and creativity and not a stack of memorised lines!

this is basically the smith morra gambit down a tempo. but since most english players like to play g3(and g6 vs the morra isnt the best) this can work even down a tempo. interesting way of surprising English players online

Good explanation of this gambit but I think on: 20:07 White Nxd2 is better than taking black's queen. It seems Black is running out of steam with his queen being attacked. But this is only one line. The rest of the video is good.

Thanks for the comment.. You are correct Nxd2 is the best move, but black is still winning after 12. ... Bxd2 13. Qxd2 Qxb1. Even though the material is going to be equal, the issue for white seems to be they aren't going to be able to castle and finish development anytime soon and black can push the past a pawn very quickly.

Interesting. Looks like a Smith Morra in reverse but the assumption is that White won't play a standard Smith Morra defense and will try to fianchetto the KB. As a player who has played hundreds of OTB English, I can attest that would normally be White's instinct. I suppose any defense that playe e3 to blunt the c5 bishop takes the game in a very different direction with good chances of surviving a pawn up. I'd also assume with the extra move in hand that White would be in no danger and have an easy path to an equal middle game, although probably a bit cramped.

Thanks for the comment. It's true these kind of gambits are more suitable for blitz or bullet where one has bigger chances to catch the opponent with some trap.

Not to mention some of the easy antidotes are still viable, nf6 or d5

Thanks man, really nice content as always! Btw, is there any chance I can share with you a gambit I randomly created while playing? It's not the best, but it makes you go at least -10 as black if it pops off

Thanks! Of course you can share, either post it here or message me on Lichess, my name is Adam_Prikler

this used to be called the "vector gambit". as a smith morra player, I'm interested in this as well as possible traspositions to the 2.c4 englund gambit declined. the stats are terrible 1400-2000.

cant white just take the gambit pawn with his knight?

Hi, I go through some of the lines at 17:30 where they capture with the knight
