Trolltunga Hike in Norway is one of the most popular hiking spots in all of Norway at the moment, thanks in large part because of the popularity of Trolltunga on Instagram.
Steve and I wanted to go see Trolltunga for ourselves, so we partnered with Trolltunga Active (trolltunga-active.com/) to make the 28km round-trip hike in the Norway winter... it was one of the most difficult day hikes I have ever done.

Ahhhh Norway, a beautiful country with good, no-nonsense people. Guys, everyone in Norway takes their shoes and boots off when going into the house though heheh. A lot of times there's a heated floor at the door -which should be a basic human right of luxury for everyone in a cold climate. 2:18 is that everything-feeling when you get to travel.... Love it! thanks for the vid. Miss Norway!

@Gareth: Being a Norwegian I really love your videos from around the country! Your positive attitude and respect for the Norwegian way of living is a great example of how to show humor, humbleness, and joy for what is different! And the great pictures and professional editing! I simply love it! Thank you! Next time you visit Norway, I and my son will take you fishing in the mountain rivers - living the real wildlife sleeping outdoors!

Friendly reminder from a Norwegian person, we do not use shoes inside peoples homes in Norway, so if you want to show respect, take them of when you enter the frontdoor, we have places to put the wet, dirty shoes there =) Much less cleaning when you leave and more higenic =) Glad you liked Norway, but nice to know this kind of things when you come to a new conutry =)

and btw - shout out to you. People don't realize with travel vlogging how much dedication it takes to shoot - get the batteries charged up, the tripod, the lenses --how many hours you REALLY have to take time to shoot a driving scene. Stop the car, set up the camera, drive the car back turn it around and drive past the camera just to get that shot of the car driving. It's a TON of work but so worth it. Cheers!

Trolltunga in winter is a beautiful sight, but walking with snowshoes is really heavy. Mad respect!
@politicallycorrectredskin796
@politicallycorrectredskin796 Жыл бұрын
It's mostly technique. Once you stop using the muscles you normally use when you're walking and use some other ones you possibly didn't know you had, it's not so bad. Skis and skates are the same way. Exhausting until you get into the technique, a breeze when you do.

I love the snow shoe walk uphill. Ambitious! My XP with snow shoes, skis, skates, swimming - basically anything not walking - is that each requires a few muscles you have typically never used before. Once your body gets used to it, the muscles grow a bit and your mind gets used to the technique it's a doddle. Before that is torture, which was basically your hike I'm guessing.

People usually sleep upstairs in Norway because it's warmer. Cold air sinks, warm air rises. Also the CO2 from breathing sinks down so the air doesn't get stuffy when you snore a lot.

Lars Monsen said (Norwegian wildlife icon) "if you use nature you start to love it and then you want to preserve it". If you want to experience Norway, don't fly or drive here, take the train and help preserve our nature. PS: Thanks for listening to the guide, so many people disregard them and then we have to rescue them off mountains and stuff.

Beautiful Norway! it reminds me of the rocky mountain roads in Canada only more beautiful because of the Fjord, the lakes, the ocean. Yes you can't travel Norway, without passing those numerous Tolls, Ferries long long tunnel roads sometimes streches to 20-50 km. long.
@politicallycorrectredskin796

Norway isn't particularly tall, but it is very steep because everywhere is pretty close to the coast. That's the main difference to me between North American nature and Norwegian. The Rockies are wider somehow. Norway is a very terrain-y miniature where a lot of stuff is squished together. I think Chile is probably the closest comp, although I've never been there myself.

In Norway nature will kill you, and we will not stop you if you are dumb. We will tell you the dangers but not make any big effort to make things safe. We had a debate a few years ago, about making big tourist atractions safer, and the sentiment here was "fuck em"... Norwegian nature is and should be dangerous. Its a part of our national pride. I live in a mountain town and we have lots of iceclimbers from all over here, and someone dies every other year. We also have tourists die in avalances, getting lost in snowstorm/white outs, falling into rivers but not so often...

12:17 "Today was really all about the journey and not the destination." That's what it should always be about, especially when you're hiking in Norway. It's not that important to pose on some extraordinary rock tongue just in order to post a picture on instagram or elsewhere - millions of people have already done that before you; actually, this is of no importance at all. It makes much more sense to appreciate the mindblowing beauty of the landscape in it's entirety while you're there and forget about the internet community in the meantime.

The best time to see the water in Norway is early spring when the melt comes down or autumn when it rains a lot. In summer things tend to disappear a bit. Like this year. We had basically zero rain or snow where I live from February to June. There's a river here, but all the streams etc dried up. Then it rains a little and it's like living in an aquarium again.
