How To Replace DJI FPV Drone Front Arm

Күн бұрын

In this video, I go step by step on how to disassemble, replace, and reassemble the DJI FPV drone to replace the front arm assembly. It's not completely necessary to remove the fan or GPS module. I prefer to since it's only a couple extra steps and ensures the components won't be damaged when doing the rest of the repair.

Great video! Everything you need to know to fix a broken arm. *Pro Tip* - Everytime you take a set of fasteners out, place them in a organizer (like a tackle box) and write down the timestamp of the video when he shows you how to take fasteners out. This way you don't mix them up and you know exactly where they go.

Thanks for creating this, had my first proper crash and this was invaluable. For anyone struggling to get the wires through the arm, I used a length of solder as a guide and taped the wires to it (didn't manage to do all 5 at once so did the antenna & LED then 3 motor wires).

Thanks for the video! Got my drone back in the air! What a mess to do this whole teardown just to replace an arm... Wouldn't have been able without this video. Wow they over engineered the internals. Making this drone annoying to repair yourself. He hadn’t even taken off the arm yet and had removed about 25 screws and several components. Not for the faint at heart but great that someone is showing that the process is possible. Awesome tutorial! Saving people money and frustration.

Here is a tip. When removing the plastic plate between the two front arms, loosen the large internal arm screw and remove the three other screws on the arm and pull it away slightly from the body. That will allow the plate to come out easily as it has inserts on the sides that intersect the ends of the arms and make it very difficult to get out.

I have my DJI FPV pack up to sen to DJI technician repair and see how much it’s going cost me to replace the right front arm of my drone (unfortunately I didn’t get the insurance) If the repair is less than $200 ill have them do it, if not bring my drone back and order the part and fix it my self and follow your step-by-step repair.. The video is very helpful to give a boost of confidence... SO BIG THANKS FOR THAT! However, i found that i didn't have to even remove the camera... Just the top plastic canopy, the rear plastic plate, the rear heat sink and side metal covers over the antennae wires.... once both antenna wires are unplugged, no need to unsolder the motor of the rear arm either... just slide it up, there's enough space to reach the wires with tweezers from the inside and pull them out... So far so good... now i'm in the process of glueing the broken arm - given that I'm on a remote island, i would have to wait 3 weeks or more to get the spare parts... looking for my torn antenna wire from a hobby shop... hopefully they'll be able to make one for me... they asked that i bring my connectors from the torn wire... AS for glueing, i'm gonna super glue it in place, then use some Epoxy to fill in the gaps... leave it 24 hours... then assemble AND lastly wrap some fibre glass cloth around it ... hopefully that'll hold XD

Thanks for the video! I was able to replace my broken front right arm of DJI fpv by following your instruction. However: in my opinion, you don't need to remove the GPS module to replace the arm. I was trying to remove the GPS but was unable to do it because of the broken small bolt on the GPS. But luckily without removing the GPS module, I still could replace the front arm. Also, I do think, that we could possibly do it without removing the gimbal at all. Removing the sensor is a must though.

On my quad DJI was nice enough to fill the hex heads of the main screws holding the arms (The large screw accessed from the battery compartment) with silicone so the silicone has to be removed from the screw head in order to get a hex driver on the screw to remove it. 2 out of the 4 screws (one on each arm) were filed with silicone which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. Another little issue, all the arms have antennas and antenna wires. The wires are shielded coaxial cables. The connectors fall off fairly easily if not already separated in a crash. If you fix and reuse the cable I suggest you test the cable to be sure there is continuity (ohm it out) and no shorts before putting the entire quad back together.

I think I'm going to start recording video of everything I ever take apart that includes a zillion screws and parts because this is a heck of a great way to remember where everything has to go back in! BTW, I think TRONCAT FPV should include links to where to purchase good tools needed to do this job.

Thank you very much for such a intuitive step by step video. I like the fact you did not skip any steps from the beginning to the end. All I know is I will never want to break the arms on mine...lol. Also, just curious...I purchased the DJI brace that connects/ties the front and rear arms together "supposedly" help prevent a broken arm. Do you think that would of prevented this from happening in the 1st place? Thanks
@TRONCATFPV

I think that those arm bracers would definitely help in a crash. I wish those were made out of carbon fiber though lol Thanks for watching!

Oh man ! Awesome. Thanks for this video. I just bought one of these and have heard some horror stories about the arms breaking off. You made it look easy, but also, it looks like if you take your time with it, anyone should be able to do their own repair. Did you video this as you were doing it ? How did you keep all the parts and steps straight ? Do you have any other videos on this drone ?? Thanks so much for posting !

Hey man. Great video. I've got the same issue and unfortunately one of the motor cables has snapped and also I think the ufl cable too. You bought a replacement ufl. What size and spec did you get.? Any links to where can buy or info be much appreciated. Thanks

Nice! I did a tutorial on fixing also.. pretty easy to do. You removed way more stuff than I did to replace? No need to mess with fan or gps.
@TRONCATFPV
@TRONCATFPV 3 жыл бұрын
yes, like I mentioned in the description of the video it's not completely necessary to remove the fan or GPS module. I prefer to since it's only a couple extra steps and ensures the components won't be damaged when doing the rest of the repair. The fan is held on with adhesive and the GPS by two screws. Thanks for watching!

Yeah I agree - I just opened mine up - and while the video is very helpful to give a boost of confidence... i found that i didn't have to even remove the camera...

Hey Bud!, This was one of the best "How To Videoes" I have ever seen!..I followed rite along and changed my DJI FPV front arm just like you did. However when I fired it up. "Put Battery" in it seemed all good!..Made all the correct sounds and such. It wont connect to my goggles!. Not sure why, but I tried using my Avata goggles and still no connect!. What step could of caused this problem? I feel almost 100% I followed rebuild steps correctly! But here I am. Any tips would be great! Thanks again Bro!
