1:20 The reason you have to push in so hard is because they aren't Phillips screws they are JIS screws which are mildly different sized. Phillips will work, but if you never want to worry about stripping again start using the JIS bits(which are in the Pro Tech Toolkit; it's the row of cross headed bits on the 3rd or 4th row from the top, marked with J000-J1). Edit: It should be mentioned that all Japanese electronics use JIS screws, and will wear much less if the correct bits are used.
@ryanfromthecarwash

Thanks! I've always wondered if there was much difference. Considering Japanese electronics are just about the only thing I tinker with, you probably just saved a lot of screws from eventually being stripped out LOL

Alot of people don't realize that about some of the Nintendo consoles now using those types of screws, when I replaced a joycon rail on the OLED, I had ordered a specific set of Jis Drivers from Ifixit and they worked great

One of the most devastating feelings I get when repairing stuff; is knowing I spent a lot of time, from hours to sometimes days, trying to fix something. Only for it to still be broken in the end. Also, one of the most satisfying things is spending a lot of time on something and it being fixed. One saps your moral, but the other gives such a good high and great feeling of satisfaction combined with knowing that time was justified because it's working now. Unfortunately, I've experienced the former more times than the latter haha. So glad you were able to fix that "modded" OLED switch.

Just found your other channel Steve. Fantastic info as I have a couple of extra Switches with “issues” 😆 One does an odd thing where 1 joy con doesn’t work when attached to the rail, but works when bluetoothed. Just you showing how you strip down, and diagnose really helps! Hope you’re feeling ok too.

I think the modded switch was a Picofly installation based on the locations. Good luck with your treatment!
@michaelburns4020
@michaelburns4020 4 ай бұрын
ALL mod chips use those locations. Doesn't necessarily mean it was a picofly. They all need dat0 (under the emmc on the other side), cmd, clk, gnd, +5v, and a flexible cable with resistors soldered to the apu, for glitching the boot process. Oh, and reset.

its nice having spare parts to fix things. one thing i like to check is with an old damaged ribbon cable that obviously cant be used anymore but just to check the connector before you risk damaging a good one or damage it more to the point where you have to replace it.

Tying a switch from a rent to own….um…put 50 bucks aside per paycheck and in about a month and a half or so depending on how frequently you get paid, you can just buy a Nintendo switch from Walmart for retail. I contemplated furniture from one of those places once, and after tallying up the costs I realized buying the item outright was ten times cheaper.

@yvesgarcia
@yvesgarcia 5 ай бұрын
I'm not sure but I think the repairable one is shorted due to a faulty chip that is cheap and easily replaceable. Those other ones are shorted due to a faulty CPU, a much more expensive part and technically hard to replace.
