German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw) has signed a government-to-government agreement with Israel to equip its Leopard 2 Main Battle Tanks Rafael’s Trophy Hard kill Active Protection Systems (APS).
The trophy active protection system is a military hard kill APS designed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd., to protect vehicles from ATGMs, RPGs, anti-tank rockets, and tank HEAT rounds. A small number of explosively formed projectiles destroy incoming threats before they hit the vehicle. Its principal purpose is to supplement the armor of light and heavily armored fighting vehicles. Developed by Rafael Advanced Defense Systems Ltd. of Israel and currently fielding over 1,000 systems to all major Israeli ground combat platforms (Merkava Mark 3 & 4 and Namer APCs), as well as U.S. Abrams M1A1/2, and tested on the Stryker APCs and Bradley AFVs.

The Abrams and Merkava look imposing with the trophy system installed, but the Leopard II looks downright goofy. Oh well, as long as the system works.

I don't think it's looks that goofy a bit yes but it look so much cleaner and smooth then for the Abrams and merkava and it doesn't make it through much bigger

@@Future183 almost all HEAT projectile are useless against modern ERA, and with the lastest Leopard 2 Variant that add additional armor and introduced the Trophy system basically any rocket projectile is pretty much useless.

@@cedriceric9730 Trophy is only added to 14 leo2 serving together with the trophy fitted m1A2 sep 2... having one system in NATOs quick reaction force will make Integration more easy... the ADS System thats currently in the closing stage of testing is more capable than trophy... it has faster reaction time full 360° and top attack cover and is able to intercept faster moving threat... procurement in germany is extrem slow and cost a Fortune... such system should have been fielded years ago

@@OpenGL4ever this is from War Thunder, so take with a pinch of salt, but Gaijin's estimations on the Iron Fist from IMI threat speeds, from 70m/s to 1700m/s and vertical angle coverage of -15 degrees to 55 degrees. So no top down protection from air-launched missiles. However top-down attack ATGM's should be able to be dealt with, assuming the threat is eliminated before it passes above the 55 degree range. 55 Degrees is not bad, tbh. This means projectiles slower than 70m/s, or 210km/h are ignored by the APS system's computers. Fast sabot rounds, such as 1630m/s are roughly going at mach 4, cannot really be stopped, merely deflected. Seeing tests in War Thunder Dev server, using the Challenger 2 Black Night, show that high-velocity APFSDS rounds can be intercepted, but chances are low the round is deflected, let alone stopped. ATGM's can still sometimes get through, using erratic guiding techniques. This is from a video game, please keep this in mind. In War Thunder it seems the APS tries to predict incoming projectile path, meaning if incoming projectile path changes periodically, the APS has to adjust to aim path of incoming ATGM or tank round. In War Thunder, the APS does not like this, and the ATGM did successfully penetrate the Challenger in the side.

This is somewhat misleading. Only one company worth of systems was ordered by the Bundeswehr in order to equip a rapid reaction force. As the video says, trophy requires so much energy that it needs a different hull with room for an extra generator. Which means the rest of the current leopard fleet is much more likely to get Rheinmetalls ads system - Germany isn't just going to throw away 300 hulls. ADS doesn't use active radar and thus doesn't need nearly as much electricity. It also is much harder to nail by Russian artillery. The Ukraine battlefield has shown that getting detected from a distance by Russian arty is a really bad thing.

I am not quite sure it will be effective against javelin. In 3:46 we can see that the sensor doesnt reach the top part of the tank. Maybe add the sensor pointing upward so the upper part is covered. would be effective

@@ulungprabowo I've been reading up on it and it is supposed to be effective against "top attack" missiles. However, we need to see it work in a combat situation to know for sure. I'm just surprised it took so long for this technology to happen. I served in the US Marines and worked on the TOW II system. The newer TOWs are top-attack and have been around for over 20 years! Again, I'm surprised that it has taken so long for anti-top attack measures to get designed and fielded. The comment above is right though, its all about politics & money...

@@alexandershaldybin6018 Деревня, там радары в горизонтальной плоскости стоят, всё что выше их угла обзора пройдёт незамеченным, эта система никак не защищает от атак сверху.

@@gabrieljoseph6310 На видео конечно красиво, но когда небольшой беспилотник начал аннигилировать абсолютно всё лазером это лол, такого даже в играх не припоминаю. По факту всё что дальше стационарной установки, взрывающей самодельные ракеты, весьма сомнительно и без реальный тестов выглядит как обещания политиков с целью привлечения электората.

Sorry no. A rotatin shield would only at most provide 50mm of stell protection and would add on unnecessary weight and be cause lots of issues when traversing rough terrain. Even when deployed it wouldnt stop any modern APFSDS due to its limited size by design.

In Germany, if there is a war, the fighting will be in open areas for the most part, and even if the tank is shot at, the system will have a lot of time to intercept the missiles shot at the tank, not for nothing, Germany is buying the system

No chariot was taken out of service after hitting Gaza, they all returned to fighting after a few days of repairs, the only tanks that were burned were on October 7th after dozens of short-range missiles were fired at them because the terrorists had time for all kinds of reasons

APS sollte man nicht mit Reaktivpanzerung verwechseln. Letzteres sind nur passive Explosivladungen die überall am ganzen Fahrzeug angebracht werden und die beim Einschlag der Projektils explodieren und so diesem einen Teil der Energie rauben bzw. bei einfachen Hohlladungen diese unwirksam machen. Die Reaktivpanzerung gibt es bei den Russen seit dem T-80. Die APS ist bei den Russen meines Wissens nach aber deutlich jünger. Richtig ist allerdings, dass die Russen dieses System zuerst hatten.
