I like the idea of tropics as "dressier rubber" bands for summer and hot days. Pretty historically important too.

Tropic, waffle, chocolate and tire tread.... Get all those and you are all set Jeff

Totally transformed both these watches with the strap changes and choices. Great way to personalise and bring a new feel to a watch. Good job Jeff 👊

Make a point to get straps that have the quick release spring bars... no tools necessary.

I need those.

But for seiko, it doesn't fit the lug holes snug. My only concern is with the lug holes being worn out from constant wiggling. My struggles with the seiko 62mas🤣

McMahon! ... strap game is strong!, looking good. I love bright straps like orange or a light blue on a diver, and the classic black waffle or tire on a seiko is a timeless. Take that wilard or the spb to hawaii on an orange strap! ... boom, doesnt get more tropical! ... palm trees, cocktails the ocean, a little snorkling ... come on! Im digging my spb143 on a beig WW2 japanese canvas strap atm, it has black kanji on it,cut from a soldiers backpack, looks sweet! I tried to post a link but the youtube gods said no. just google "WW2 japanese canvas watch strap" for example images . Youve inspired me to bust out an orange strap for the spb this weekend and hit the beach! Ride on Mcmahon!

From where did you buy that strap, sounds interesting!

You’d look pretty sharp in white, like Bogey in “Casablanca”. A colorful tropic strap with a matching pocket square would complete the look…

I’m glad you finally come around to using the rubber straps. These looks natural to the vintage inspired watches. The bracelets don’t feel right for me on these seikos

Sold my SPB147 a month or so ago. This vid makes me regret it. The tropic strap definitely seems to up the appeal of it.

I thought you were a “feel the steel” guy?! I prefer my steel bracelets but I do have some rubber straps for my watches which I rarely use but I’m going to be putting a new rubber strap permanently on my Submariner Cermit just to separate it more from my gmt master.

Still got that Turtle Slim? I’d be interested.

How many straps have I purchased over the years, fifty, sixty? It's always fun to mix and match but what I found over time is that the crazy colors wear out their welcome pretty quickly. I've had my Orange Monster on an orange Isofrane, an orange NATO, an orange and black Hirsch Robby, and it's now back on a all-black tropic strap which for me feels like the most harmonious pairing. Straps are relatively inexpensive (although some of those fitted FKM rubber straps can get pretty pricey) and if it means that it rejuvenates interest in a watch, then it's a good investment. But a warning: they tend to multiply like Tribbles and before long your watch box is overflowing with them. 😄

Yes, the orange Tropic is nice for a while on the Willard, but too much Halloween cake frosting so I went back to the bracelet. The orange Tropic will complement another watch.

Agreed, when I first fell down the NATO rabbit hole, I bought a bunch of colours and stripes I never used once. If I had a nice simple white-faced watch, they might have seen some action, but they just seemed too much, really. All consigned to a box in favour of premium, single-colour NATOs and rubber.

How would the Willard look on a bund strap or a Panerai-style strap?
