One my (Rhi's) favourite horse-related quotes is "Always remember with horses, only one of you is allowed to panic at once - and it is *never* your turn!"

@@barryhook2 Rhi, This made me Lmao!! That is something my Nana would say,,,(Except Nan was a lot more "Sweary!" Lol!) Tiny Welsh woman, with a ferocious temper, unless you were a child or animal, in which case she had Infinite Patience and Kind beyond measure!! She raised 16 children and taught me Exactly how Painful curb-chains are, ~ on my shin bone! It was One of the most valuable lessons any human taught me, that was!! Another one of her sayings was,,,,, "Panicking is what I do at Night,,, when Im going to sleep!" My Nan would definitely Approve of you Rhi,, Barry,, and your training methods, ~thats about the highest praise I can give!!

Quite possibly, yes Brenda. They do not generalise as easily as we do in terms of 'that is a vehicle, it is yellow but still a vehicle' which can lead to issues if you don't understand that the world looks a lot different through their eyes and get frustrated at them for their reactions.

Kizzy's issues are more vision related than audio related. Also, although some use ear plugs for driving, our main form of communication with our driving horses is voice and we would not want to take any of their ability to hear instruction away from them.

"Should" is very relative haha We often swap horses in and out of different combinations, so Kizzy may be working in a pair or team and need a different set of turrets one day to the next. To save time we usually leave them as is - it doesn't matter if you're not using them. Also, you can hook a trace up to it when you're unhitching.

Hi Darren, we only ever use rubber bits - for everything. If a horse comes in previously used to a metal bit, it goes straight into rubber when it gets here. If a horse comes to us completely unbroken, it is mouthed in a rubber bit and stays in one. Hope that helps!

Not in Kizzy's case. Some horses do prefer blinkerless, but if you unblinker Kizzy she has 80% more of her vision to be distracted by. Blinkers help to keep her focus on what is directly in front of her and be less distracted by things at the edge of her vision which may otherwise catch her attention.

Why I am asking, because is going to order harness for driving and would like to decide to order with or without blinkers, what would you advise? One of my young horses is still afraid of traffic, older one is not, I am driving them in pair. Thanks

Coming 5 years old, we had her originally at 3 years old but sent her home to mature. We have done all her driving training. She has been broken to ride and hacked out at home.
