Created as a student film project, Troubled Waters explores what has happened to our oceans because of our appetite for seafood, and looks what we can do personally to kick start a reformed fishing industry. This film was created by two students - Matthew Judge, who wrote, shot and produced the film, and Robert Drane who wrote and performed the original music used in this film.

This vid was hella good even in 2019 now... its mind-blowing to me this was only a student film project... I hope to goodness you got an 'A' ... you deserve it bro. I have no interest in this topic... I just watched for random entertainment & learning and it stood up to a similar big budget History channel documentary I'd watched too. Thanks homeboy.

@@foodconnoisseur9321 true, but although seaspiracy is exagerated in some aspects, I think it was more to raise awareness then actually present solid facts. We can agree that some facts are wrong but imagine you're like me and you watch seaspiracy. I had 0 knowledge about this problem and it was a HUGE eye oppener. Then I procceded to fact check and I realised its not as dramatic as seaspiracy lays it out but it made me realised that still, its pretty bad. Concluding this long statement (sorry for that), I believe that this video is (obviously) more factual then seaspiracy, but it's a good documentary to open people's eyes and, most importantly, raise awareness from people that before watching the doc didnt even know this was happening. (This is all my opinion btw)

I was driven here after watching seaspiracy which almost made me dump my maquerel cans. I have watered down this activist oriented movie (no offense) with the reading of critics or other maybe more objective films such as this one. It turns out that despite the flaws of seespiracy, mostly jumping into conclusions hastyly when it comes to labels being fraud or sustainability being a joke, as well as the constant shooting of very localised graphic slaughtering events (taiji) to "help" you make up your mind, they still got a point regarding the same issues highlighted in this very film. I mean bycatch, super trawler, seafloors beeing shredded, biodiversity shrinking drastically, shamefull unsustainable fisheries subsidies, fishing net and gear plastic garbage... and so on. I don't feel like i can strip myself from eating fish but certainly reduce. As for labels i assume it's better than nothing even if can only rely on trust.

.t is an eye opener to say the least of the challenges the fishing industry for SIDs have to overcome and the ever increasing pressures placed on the Marine environment due to improve methods of fishing, driving by the insatiable demand our human population growth. Two concerns were noted: The profit driving madness of fishing cooperations and the rejection of research data by companies and policy makers. Inevitably, it would take education of the consumers as the single potent strategy to force policies and enforcement of an industry set on destroying a natural resource that rally belongs to us all. Its apparent to see that this is global and must reach a defining conclusion before we starve.

It would be great if we did like jump years. Like have a global ban on bluefin tuna, when what we have is gone, it's gone and only fish another species for one season and then another for the third season. Just give them time to grow and reproduce. I myself only eat fish maybe 3 times a year. Not only are we taking too much from specific species but we're also starving the wildlife that depend on them to live. I know they will not stop until they completely wipe it off the face of the earth. I've never even had bluefin tuna or salmon. Unless they put it in the fish meal at the fast food joints. Usually when we eat fish it's caught by us out the Mississippi and it's always catfish

Everyone being vegan is not a solution either. The amount of ground needed to cover in order to replace fisheries would cause you to have to cut down all rainforests and still not have enough... Fisheries is required, it just needs to be managed better.

That fisherman must be either quite uneducated about what he's selling or he's lying. The oceans aren't clean anymore. They are full of plastic and toxins, since we're treating it like a cheap garbage dump. As a general rule the older a fish is the more toxins have accumulated in it. So the older the fish, the bigger the fish the less healthy the fish due to the toxins that have accumulated in the fish. Of course this is not a problem for fish that have been caught in clean water. Personally i stopped eating fish from the ocean. I rarely eat fish and when i eat it i eat it from a local source. We have lakes that i know are clean and that i know are fished in a sustainable way. But maybe that's not the best thing either. Since when i eat local fish there will be no local fish for other people so they might by fish from unsustainable sources then. It's complicated.
@danielmoyle5503
@danielmoyle5503 2 жыл бұрын
If everyone eats local, then there wont be any local. Say everyone in Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Detroit and all other major cities go local and only eat fish from Lake Ontario and Erie.. well there goes whats left of those fish populations. Its like an argument many hunters use, encouraging more people to source their meat from hunted animals so the meats cleaner, no industry pollution, good life for the animals, local, etc etc. I say to them look buddy, the only reason you have the ability to hunt a deer is because 90% of the population does not hunt or there would be no deer. The real problem that no one wants to talk about, over population. Get ready for chaos, humans havent seen conflict on the scale that is coming.
@stauffap
@stauffap 2 жыл бұрын
@@danielmoyle5503 That's why i hardly eat any fish. We're too many people, who eat too much fish. We need to either decrease the popullation (which isn't going to happen) or eat less fish. So i chose to eat far less fish. Only about once a month.

So are we eating more fish than we actually need? Because i have the impression that, as staggeringly high as it is, the amount of fish being caught per year is not even enough to feed the world's population. It is always easy to find news about countries not being able to meet domestic demand of fish despite the oceans being overfished. Is 6 billions of human too much for the planet to take on?

Too Much greed and fear to have "Sustainable Fishing" we know this now since this film came out. Fishermen know its gonna end and they are just rushing to get the last fish. BUT fish do come back and not as quickly as you may suppose as the evidence in this film. You still have just a little time left now. If you doubt me don't trust anyone but your own eyes. At the beginning of the last century, smaller boats, less technology, they complained about smaller catches and small fish. A century later it got worse and the Grand Banks was fished out and when this film was made- No Large fish, only mid size and today 2020- well look it up. Go Vegan, or Vegetarian just stop eating meat, I hope you love your children too....
