I'm glad you caught that in time because that's always the beginning of a head gasket going, when you put heat or running time to the head

The Gulf of Mexico has so much salinity in it probably double the Atlantic Ocean not sure but it kills manifolds and everything else it touches very happy for you that it wasn't a cylinder

Me and My dad owned boats for YEARS, We didn't have Mercrusiers, we have Chrysler marine engines, but they were Raw water cooled and we replaced exhaust manifolds on a regular basis !. I feel like I was watching a HappyOurs colonoscopy! Good call on the diagnosis. I replaced the manifold and riser elbows on ours when we first got U Sea O. Incidentally, phosphoric acid (Lowe’s Paint and Metal Prep) works great to clean all of that corrosion right up!

Good luck! Been there, done that! It's definitely easier with 2 people. Definitely buy genuine Mercruiser replacements. Don't skimp or you'll be buying new motors next time. Using a couple of old bolts with heads cut off as TK suggested is a good idea if you have room to slide new manifold on. Otherwise you may have to use a tiny drop of super glue to hold gasket in place on manifold if you don't have room.

I would hire you for my shop if you were closer !

Make sure buy new bolts save two older ones cut the heads off put in two end a lot easier to put manifold and gasket back on

Thanks for the shout out. So... do I win the prize? Say a cruise for my wife and I (if you are available and circumstances permit) on our next visit to our friends in Cape Coral. Boy were you lucky it was an inside manifold, easy to work on. Of course you need to do the other three and the two outside ones are a... witch. Your manifolds like mine (just replaced last fall) are likely the original 2006 manifolds. Temporarily during the install of the outer manifolds you can use 2 long riser bolts horizontally to help you hold the manifold in place as you set up the other bolts. Scott Doty m/v Kismet Newburyport MA Did I mention that as a boat owner I know how to be a good boat guest... bring along essential provisions: red, rose or white, sweet or dry or other required liquids\ medicines. And I just saw the comment below which improves upon my long bolt suggestion.... cut the heads off of two of these old bolts to slide the monster on to.. With this method you can incrementally added the gasket while the manifold is hanging away from the block on the bolts.

Good job fixing it! I used to own a Wellcraft GrandSport 34 with twin Mercuriser 454s, manifolds and raisers went too fast as the boat was always in salt water and i had no flushing system. Maybe it will be a good idea for you to install a fresh water flushing system to extend the life of these parts.

I can't believe how expensive that is just for the parts probably was half that 4 years ago

in my view, the long slow trip you made by moving your boat to fla at low rpms most of the way started this issue. that idle speed for that long let the carbon buildup in your manifolds. all the rest are probably similar, open her up once and while to clean that stuff out.
