1/2 of a degree? I think we're reaching here. Reefing for 28 years plus. One-half of degree never made any difference in my tanks.

Cool well everyone has an opinion and this is mine based on what i have seen. As for years in the hobby i know of a 24 year "youtuber" who cant start a new tank so time in mean nothing.

@@FishOfHex I'm normally with you on this one but you're basically saying that experience doesn't mean anything? Completely disagree with you. Most people learn from experience. Either positive or negative. Your comment made no sense.

@@FishOfHex am I looking at this correct so what you're saying is the years of experience doesn't mean Jack? Don't hate on the old-timers and experienced reefers that have paved the path. You sound ridiculous with your statement. And I will have to agree with Fade to Black one half of a degree is not going to give you soft tissue necrosis.

This was INSANELY helpful. It helped me get a grasp on keeping sps. Halfway through I had a question and was going to make a comment, but you answered it. That's how you know you answered just about everything....job well done Travis😉👍👏

I could not believe this when you showed it to me. I enjoy how you take everyone through a step by step process in dealing with this issue. Great job...☺👍

Great video. I would say that knee jerk reactions are probably one of the top 5 problems new reefers do wrong. I know it was my issue 🤦🏼‍♂️

Thanks for making the video. It makes a lot of sense about not cutting the STN part off, although all the other advice was to cut and glue the part to stop further spread. That's never worked for me, so I'll keep the water stable and leave it the hell alone. It's so obvious now you've said it.

I’d add you should check your gear for rust. My tank wasn’t doing well and it turned out my gyre was rusting bad.

Good video but I just had RTN and most corals except for a few lps are pretty much gone just after I figured out how to get my nitrate levels in check and corals growing here comes RTN.

No offense, Can you prove 0.5F can cause STN? (Edit: I love your channel, can hardly stand BRS channel now as it’s just subliminal advertising now). Just seems like few will be able to control that tightly

I’m not a water change guy with the system I run ( ati pro ) but over lockdown I did a couple of WC and sure enough I experienced STN 😭 i wish I never fragged and just left them alone ... fragging did work but I think it also would have been ok if I didn’t... interesting video thanks

I’m about to start using a different salt. Should I do half of new and half of old for a couple water changes or just go for it? Or any variation of that?

If the new salt mix has similar level, you can go for it. But if not, I would go slow like 10%

Great video! I recently switched salts from Tropic Marin Pro to Brightwell Neo Marine because of availability. Ive had some STN in some of the more sensitive acropora. Would you suggest I switch back or ride it out?

Thank you for the video. I just lost big colony of Stylophora milka with STN. I think it was due to mysterious swing in KH..for years i had 8, now suddenly in one week it was 12…i dont know why,cause i havent changed anything… May i ask you what lights are you using over your tank and what setting? I have a Radion XR 15 G4 over 50 gal tank, but i can never achieve this clear white look with such colored corals. My corals are colored but i cant find any template or color settings to bring this colors out. Either its too blue,or too yelow/red…. Please help. Thank you🙏

Hi Travis, I have a question about dosing Alkalinity. I am using natural sea water in my mixed reef tank and this has a DKH of 7. All the videos I watch and people I speak to tell me it should be between 8 and 10 DKH. I don't know why they recommend this as natural seawater is the home of coral!!! I have 50/50 sps and lps in the tank, and would like to optimise their growth. Do you recommend I raise the alkalinity and would I need to dose calcium at the same rate to maintain the tank balance? as you always say to dose both at the same time
@josemendez4716
@josemendez4716 4 жыл бұрын
I think you should add more alkalinity to keep it between 8-9dkh. Calcium should stay between 420-450 check your calcium to see if you need to dose.

The Lower alk = slow grow and beautiful colors . & middle alk 9-10 equals faster growth and still color but not as good .& higher alk is 10-12 is fast growth & burnt tips look. If only lps tank and softies . I recommend 10-12 alk and for mix 7-9 & for sps only 7-8-5 . For the best color pop.
