There's a short missing section around 4:11-4:51. In the missing section I discover the tank is not the stock Belton but an MOD. Sorry about that.

Thanks for this, Lyle! I was able to get my Princeton clone (Clark Kanee) as quiet as my noisy house circuitry (50's house with more recent dimmer switches everywhere) will allow by hot swapping in preamp tubes while I had a dB meter app going on my phone in front of the amp.

Thanks, I love watching all your videos on amps. I just had a question about the hot rod amps, is it worth it at all to swap out the little metal feet for rubber ones? Would it help with vibration and maybe preserve the amp a bit longer? Apologies if this is a stupid question.. thanks again!

Great stuff...I wish you were in Montreal. I have a Blues Jr. III thats working fine, but it's beeen used quite heavily and I'm sure would benifit from your mods and maintenence. I'm using preferred series 7189 tubes that can handle more juice, but cooling the bias seems like a good idea. I put a Cannabis Rex speaker in it and I think sound is overall way better. In your opinion is that a good speaker choice for that amp?

So can you dime the volume when using the reverb XFMR to 8 ohm speaker (whilst seeking OD & distortion) with no worries concerning the main output to ground (?) and also is there a safe way to route the rev. out to low level in with some sort of simple/easy impedance matching (if necessary) also for chasing distortion 😵‍💫(?) (Thanx in advance) 🥸

@@BradsGuitarGarage unfortunately for me as mostly a hifi repair guy, lots of audio switching was done in 80's hifi via the switches directly instead of with miniature relays being operated by the switches. Usually it's much easier to find a replacement relay with the correct footprint and coil specs than it is to find a replacement fimor, or dismantle and clean, a 40 year old switch that is directly handing the analog switching......but in the 90's, many manufacturers switched to using relays.

Hey Lyle, I'm hoping you can help me understand an issue I'm having with my Deluxe reverb after making a really idiotic mistake with it. I sometimes use a Marshall head into the speaker of the Deluxe (just using the combo as a cabinet, deluxe reverb stays off.), and accidentally grabbed the wrong cable while running late to a gig and mindlessly plugged the speaker out of the Marshall into the speaker out of the Deluxe Reverb... I noticed no sound and turned the amp off, it way on for maybe 30 seconds to a minute tops before I realized what I had done. The Marshall made it through the gig and sounds fine... but I just got back home and plugged the Deluxe Reverb in, and it's sputtering and signal is cutting in and out. Do you know what issues I could have caused by doing this? I plan to call my tech about it soon, but right now am just so embarrassed and defeated by making such a mindless and stupid mistake. :/

@@PsionicAudio thanks for the reply Lyle. The amp seems to be working fine now somehow.. could those symptoms be from using the amp after it being cold in the car? Maybe chilly tubes not happy to heat up quickly, or a stiff power cable? I’ll keep an eye on it and contact my tech as well. I really appreciate your time.

What Hum??? Your audio is very, very poor for this kind of demo - And YES I have my PC volume at full bore. :-( The first few minutes are useful to know after that there isn't much of practical use for an amp owner... well of my limited knowledge anyway.. The reverb driver trick: Input is actually the reverb Output... thus it can be hooked up to a 8ohm speaker... for low output practice, hmmm... Well I guess that's handy to know without any explanation. Then there is the ability to plug your guitar directly into the reverb driver but with impedance issues... again no explanation. I guess that would have meant a much longer video but, maybe if you are bringing it up you should perhaps direct viewers to more info. When you arouse curiosity... people like answers.
@michaelkrailo5725
@michaelkrailo5725 Ай бұрын
The main point of the video is that you shouldn't hear any hum when all the knobs are turned down and nothing is plugged in (also when the knobs are turned up as well). He fixed the first issue by swapping out the preamp tube, so that was a simple fix for anyone to do themselves. The second issue was hum that occurs when the reverb volume is increased. It was audible in the video, but probably not as pronounced as you would notice in person and it's not easy to pick that up without placing that mic really close to the amp. There are many reasons that would cause this issue, in this case it ended up being a bad transducer in in the reverb tank. Unfortunately, you need a new tank to even test that but it's good to know that's where hum can come from. As far as the low output trick, you have the option to connect an 8 ohm impedance speaker up to that reverb tank output and play at lower volumes without reverb. Do not plug your guitar into that jack, that's for the speaker only. Your guitar plugs into the normal input jack on the front of the amp only. Of course, the main volume knob won't be used and only the reverb volume would be used if the goal is to play at a lower volume level.
