With the brakes and fuel system taken care of by Kiwi, it's now our turn to sort out the running issues of this classic multi carbed Mopar street machine.
So far the basic engine and combination looks real good, but it's going to need a few parts and some refinements under the hood before we can unleash the power.

We can see how complex multi-carb setups are. And why they quickly fell out of favor. Great point about tuning w/air cleaner on!
@carmiethompson2676

They fell out of favor because people didn't want to learn them. NHRA still requires a weight penalty for 8V & dual throttle bodies last I remember...could be wrong. 🤦‍♂️
@YouveBeenMiddled
@YouveBeenMiddled 2 жыл бұрын
They're not super complex, it's just tuning 2 carbs instead of tuning the secondaries. They really fell out of favor because 4bbl carbs were created, and then made larger. When multi-carb setups were popular, the only choices were small(ish) 2bbl carbs.
@Orygunner67

I like to tune mine with a flipped air cleaner lid if you know what I mean. Get a longer longer centerstud in your carb if need be. Tune it for Max performance with the air cleaner lid flipped (upside down) so you get 360° maximum air flow/performance.... But flip it right side up for average daily driving. 😇

I don't like braided lines for fuel. I ran into a Ford Ranger that ended up having a bad ground. Whenever power was on the voltage would look for the best route to ground and it ended up being the braiding on the fuel line. The problem was the small wires that made up the braid would get red hot as soon as the power was on and it was melted the fuel hose so now it was red hot with fuel squirting out.

I've also noticed alot of little stainless flakes get on your fingers while handling these, presumably manufacturing artifacts. Any of that gets in the intake or fuel and it's going to be scraping around in the cylinder for a long time before burning up.

That whole car looks sort of cobbled. You can buy all of the correct re-pop brackets, linkage and parts. Looks like it was put together by a non-Mopar guy or as a 'flipper'. Cars like that kind of scare me off unless they're really cheap. Especially if it's a 318 transplant car because they rarely upgrade the suspension or brakes, with other HD parts to match the engine. I always figure what else am I NOT seeing when looking at them considering what you can see. No excuse for that coil wire. Nothing but quality there. I wasn't really diggin' the 'hi-tech' carb mounting bolts either. Craziest thing is that upper radiator hose looks like it's upside down with a kink. C'mon man! BTW, B body/E body big blocks only run the #8 over the valve cover. C-bodies run the #7 and #8 wire. A lot of 'Restored' B&E's these days have C-body driver side covers with the extra tabs.

The correct throttle bracket is available usually at EBay and also a long throttle cable, EBay and he needs to get a correct kickdown before the Torqueflite burns up. The outboard carb vacuum lines plug into the line that attaches to the nipple on the center carb metering block. The distributor's vacuum line plugs into the center carb small nipple on the front of the base plate. The outboard vacuum pods usually work well on the short yellow or purple springs. That'll be a start. Been there, done that.

UT, quick question. Per the paid to paint the block vid, do you get paid per view, per like, or per subscriber view? If it’s by “likes” I want to make sure I’m leaving a like on every vid so you can continue to do’s what you do best. Love the content as always, you could clean you tools and chat about world events and make it interesting.
@kramnull8962
@kramnull8962 2 жыл бұрын
I think the likes just spread the video around to others with the same interests. Also they send more like content to your page as well for recommendations. At the same time when you like it and it goes to another viewer they click on it and they watch and that's how most of the money is made. Views alone. Clicking like has many advantages for all of us. Say when a person just starts clicking things to downvote it, it still actually helps that channel because it still gets counted as a view if they stay on the video for awhile; so you're not hurting them but helping.

That will be a nice engine compartment once the details are fixed. I noticed there's an "Orange Box" ignition with a single ballast resistor. I have a "N.O.S." one from the early '90's. Will this "plug and play" replacing the original box with the dual ballast or does it require a special single ballast? I noticed that there are only 4 pins on the "Orange Box" whereas there are 5 on the regular box. On the wiring diagram, the missing pin goes to half of the resistor. Does it use a different coil? Any information you can provide will be greatly appreciated. Best Regards - Mike

@@simcard027 Yeah, it has slid under the rug really. So much easier to get about the same from a single 4bbl or a good TBI setup nowadays. Three 2bbl. were constantly needing tweaking with their setups. Everytime the weather changed they were off a little. In California they most likely were ok, but in NC with altitude and weather changing on trips and such, kinda hectic to mess with all the time. Their rise to fame was more so in the ole flatheads then 59-62 Fords. Mopar brought them back up in the late 60's. Mopar used a different way of linking the carbs to open if I'm not mistaken. Which worked better, but not any better than 2 4bbl.

To make them tri power system you are always haveing to mess with them. When they work right they are great. But they need a lot of care. They have always been a high maintenance item. They work best behind a auto trans were you never leave off the gas. On a stick everytime you shift and lift off the gas it has to start all over again. Unless you powershift which you are gona miss gears which is bad.

I'm not a Mopar guy, but leaving plug wires laying all over and half fast repairs is UNACCEPTABLE!! The air cleaner is also necessary because if you "tune it", then put one on, you will be running rich due to less airflow! This will also screw up EVERYTHING in the tuning department 🙄 I should have just worked on REAL CARS from my late teens 😠
