I recently discovered that double cleansing my hair makes a huge difference. But my curls were still looser and didn't last the day no matter what gel I used. I decided to discontinue the tiny amount of leave-in I was using. Hallelujah, my curls are back! So those of you who have fine, low density hair, don't overlook your curls being weighed down by too-heavy products.

It is a tough balance for sure. Either shiny, weighed-down curls or dull, springy curls for me. I have not experimented much with curl enhancers/definers, but I am okay with having imperfect hair. If my curls are healthy and I can detangle them pretty easily, I am happy. 😊❤

Can you list somewhere which products fall where? For example, which gels you consider grippier and grittier and which are more nourishing and slippery. I don't have the budget to be buying a lot of products to see what works best.

I’m actually really glad you pointed that out about the bounce curl clarifying shampoo! Clarifying and hydrating can mean very different things depending on individual scalp and hair type. In my experience, “hydrating” shampoos that have C14-C16 olefin sulfonate do not work for coarse hair on a regular basis even if they’ve got lots of conditioning ingredients. So it’s always a good idea to check what actual surfactants are in the shampoo. Switching to a more gentle shampoo from SheaMoisture or Curlsmith helped me a ton!

😂 Thanks for the great video. Now that my hair has passed through the transition phase, I have decided to get a curly haircut as a celebration. My hair has always been frizzy. But when my niece saw me at Thanksgiving and complimented me on my hair, I knew it was time. I love all of the help you and your chanel have been throughout this journey. Have a blessed Christmas!

Winter's so fun. Even without the snow we'd typically have right now, it's been SO dry, just like every winter. TOTALLY changed how my hair's been acting: have to lock the moisture IN, versus summer needing to lock the humidity out. Trying to figure out what to do because I've still got to clarify, but not too much. But I can't over-moisturize, either, and, it seems like I'm not getting enough protein, yet - I can't seem to get enough gel to lock the moisture in, either. 🧐🤯 Yes, I think I need a trim, too.

I wish these tips would help me. My problem is menopause. My hair went crazy-curly practically overnight with puberty. I’ve been wearing it fully natural since 1984 and loving it. Then, menopause hit and it instantly went stick-straight. I hate how my face looks with straight hair. I need the frame of curls to look like myself. I don’t mind my wrinkles or the silvers, but the straightness is hideous. It’s so disappointing.

Thanks Courtney! I've been struggling with loss of curls and waves and altogether very soft and limp hair over the past few months. The climate around here is humid all year round, even when the temperature drops it's still humid. After trying several things you mentioned, I started to think I'm either over-moisturised and/or lacking protein. So tonight I clarified and deep conditioned, no styling, just wrapped in a towel then air dried. Tomorrow I'll do a gelatin treatment. 🤞

This was very helpful. I just washed and styled my hair. I know I need to get my hair cut. I've been on this journey over 3 years now and I think I finally figured out what my hair needs are. That's right..needs (plural) because my hair seems to have split personality 😅. The 3/4 part, the lower half seems to be less persnickety, it does really well with just about anything (products and technique). Whereas the other 1/3, the top portion of my hair, is mostly grey, is mostly straight and dry, needs more moisture!

Such great information. I recently decided I needed a more hydrating shampoo. I was blown away how well my hair loved SheaMoisture daily hydrating shampoo and conditioner. I have fine low density hair and normally hydrating products are too heavy or make my scalp greasy within a day. I also added the leave in conditioner and a curl cream under my gel. But I think I’m going to stick with just leave in OR curl cream. Both were too much lol.

I once tried double cleansing my hair only last year and have never gone back. Even with a clarifying or chelating shampoo I still double cleanse, I'll just follow with a deep conditioner afterwards. Summers are dry AF, winters are wet and humid.

Hey Courtney! I’m starting my swavy hair journey, but I’m starting with hair that is 2 feet+ long! I’ve done minimal heat styling recently with heat protectant, regularly air dry my hair, and at my hairline when I’m outside in the summer I get a bit of a lions mane with my whispies. Are there any major things that I could be missing with longer hair?

you might be surprised what happens if you find a good routine that works for you. I'm s member of the "I thought my hair was straight but frizzy" club and now I have fluffy, shiny 2c with a few spirals. I only started about a year ago. I had to go back to dandruff shampoo after a few months of CG because my dandruff came back. But the head and shoulders doesn't bother my hair, since I only wash once a week. I condition with whatever silicone free thing I found at Ollie's for $3. I scrunch in some curl cream and mousse or gel (Aussie works great, you don't need the expensive stuff) and diffuse with a $15 hair dryer from Lidl.

Hiiii I started my CG journey about 3 months ago and while I’m trying to be very gentle when detangling in the shower, I’m noticing new breakage at the top of my head. I have thick, fine, 2b/2c, high porosity hair and need it detangled. I have to add loads of SM coconut oil conditioner for slip. What can I do differently? Thank you!!
@rayray24601
@rayray24601 8 ай бұрын
I'm not a professional, but I have similar hair and struggled with detangling for awhile. I gave up detangling with my fingers and got a brush that is made for thick hair. I'll section the hair while adding conditioner to make sure all hairs get covered. The sectioning is terrible because it is still tangly, but I'll do the best. Let the conditioner marinate for a few minutes and then make sure you get the hair wet again. Water is your friend with the conditioner. And I'll start at the bottom and slowly start brushing up the strands to detangle. The brush saved my sanity! Good luck!

Hi Courtney! Would really appreciate your advice! In SA we are in summer time and it is extremely hot and dry also with no rain in sight.. 🤦‍♀️ I have fine low porosity hair that looks really good during cooler months. I usually use a bit of leave-in because my ends get very dry quickly ( but I have an oily scalp 🤦‍♀️) and 1 or 2 stylers. During this hot summer my hair just gets really flat and the waves are not great. So I tried skipping the leave-in for a few washes but my ends just seem to get drier, and it is still not great. So should I just then use a leave-in, just a very light one? #reallystruggling..😀
@SwavyCurlyCourtney
@SwavyCurlyCourtney 8 ай бұрын
That is what I would do. I would use a really lightweight leave in conditioner. And a gel with more hold and one that contains humidity blocking ingredients (like polyquatirnuims)
