As a beginner fly fisherman, it’s incredible to see all the rules about 10 and 2 being discarded. Clearly there’s more subtlety to the art of throwing line than straight line path if the tip and clock face can capture. Very Interesting
@suhwateezea.214
@suhwateezea.214 Жыл бұрын
Once you cast line beyond a certain distance the weight of the line overpowers the weight of the rod. So you need the exaggerated cast to make up for that. 10-2 covers most casting up to 30-60ft.
@lifetime805

The clock face numbers aren't static. It completely depends on how much longer you're casting and what loop size you need.
@BalazarsBrain

10 and 2 creates a nice tight loop for shorter casts. With longer casts you want to open the loop up, but a big loop requires faster line speed and a lot of power in the rod loading to create that nice loop shape.

We need to see the loops....!! Especially the" ultra tight pointed"loops!! Coupled with a deep discussion about both the cause and the corruption....!! Also upper and lower legs that are purely stright with out waves.....! If any can point me to that information/technique......you would be my new best friend......! For all the articles on casting it appears that these points get very little print.....?? The basics repeated to death.....! I really am just a fisherman desiring to be smooth with great control from 20 to 60 feet. I can cast the entire flyline but don't care. So any one can bring focused clarity on these details could sell a lot of videos and books......! Thanks! just jim

You might as well play a game of shot put, or javelin, or any pastime that requires reaching long distances, as opposed to the subtle art of fishing. Just my view, and I am conceding that 'yours is bigger than mine', but what did you catch?

You see the muscles on those shot put/javelin people? That requires some serious work... Trout Distance needs more technique than power. With the right technique I've seen casts over 34 m (measured) with a 8' 6" 4wt rod! If you can cast 30 meters with relative ease (as these people can) think how easy it is to cast shorter distances under full control when fishing and still have the ability to reach out to that monster that is out of reach of most fly fishermen. I know how much of a difference it makes watching my friend fish/cast (an ex national champion). These competitions are not only for distance - the is a disipline for accuracy as well. Watching the worlds best at that is something special!

Actual tip: you don’t want to hear your fly line cutting the air. All of these guys are over powering the rod. This will cause tailing loops and the rod works better if you are relaxed and not trying to push the line out
@Leif8370
@Leif8370 Жыл бұрын
the film is shot for the world championship in fly casting. If you don't get speed on the line, it's not you who cast furthest, that's what it's all about here and therefore you go to the limit of what's possible. But otherwise you're right that it doesn't pay to over power your cast 👍
@tristanmckenzie1623
@tristanmckenzie1623 8 ай бұрын
@singlemom3260 agreed. Noisy whipping sounds mid air means they are muscling the cast and not letting the rod do all the work as you should.." I bet if you had a close shot of there grip, you'll find they are holding onto the rod too tight also. A relaxed grip equals a relaxed casting stroke. Casting strokes need to be slower and smooth to not hear that sound mid air.

no way not bitter at all.... Just a fact... BTW they were only cast 100 feet or so which doesn't require the crazy techniques these guys were doing. Steve Rajeff casts 250 feet or 75 meters more then double the winner. Fly casting for fishing and fly casting for distance are two different things. Try presenting a dry fly with those bs casts
@pugilist102
@pugilist102 7 жыл бұрын
This is not a style of casting, it's the same casting. It's a forward cast, back cast along with double hauling. Do you even cast? How do you not know this? "BTW they were only cast 100 feet or so which doesn't require the crazy techniques these guys were doing" So you're telling me you could cast a 100 ft without double hauling? Yeah, right. "Steve Rajeff casts 250 feet or 75 meters more then double the winner." Steve Rajeff uses the same forward/backcast with double hauling. He's just that good and also used specialized gear. Don't watch this video if you are learning because it is way too advanced for you and if you are a noob, you'd probably think it was a different style, LOL.
@andrewgio1
@andrewgio1 7 жыл бұрын
I can cast 80 feet double hauling and not changing my stance. Did you see the guys take 2 steps in the middle of his cast? Try doing that on the river. Did you not see their leaders piling up? Or how about the wicked tailing loops? Distance casting is retarded and has little to do with being a good fly fisherman. Casting 30 ft accurate is 100X more important.
@andrewgio1
@andrewgio1 7 жыл бұрын
why don't you go watch Paul Arden and Steve Rajeff. Trout distance. See how steve has a normal stance? See how he doesn't just flop is rod straight back on the back cast? I assure you I know plenty about fly casting.

@davidmiller7771 Agreed.. Casting long distance is less important. That's just an ego thing to make you think you're a gun caster that's all. Accuracy and presentation will be the deciding factor on whether the fish will eat your fly or not!

Unless your the newbie on the river trying to impress everybody. Watched a guy last week lose at least 6 flies from the enormous bullwhip snap. Before he left, and the last fly snapped off, he kept swinging for the fence knowing he had no fly, I suppose it was pride that kept him swinging.
