Fished the little red out of Lindsey’s Rainbow Resort the summer of 80’ using this same setup minus the marshmallow. We either used straight corn or salmon eggs, didn’t know to call it a Carolina rig at the time but that what it was. Used the spinning tackle no zebcos Happy memories I need to hire a guide and go back. Thanks for the memories.

Was searching for trout tips but I never dreamed I'd find a video on the very river I fish.

Great video, I especially like that you showed the setup at the end with the length between the swivel and the hook, most people just show you how to catch the fish.

You must be camping at JFK Park. Great place. Be sure to hike Collins Creek. For the fishing, you'll do well to use the set up we featured in this video. If you want to try an artificial lure, I recommend a Rapala CountDown #5 in a brown trout color. Be advised that the area closest to the dam is artificial / barbless / catch and release ONLY. Pay attention to posted signs. The area near the boat ramp and below is open to all other trout fishing methods.

i love the little red river, fished it a straight week last winter, wonderful trout fishery. Crankbaits work well also, crawfish, and countdown rapala's ..

This setup calls for regular miniature marshmallows, but you'll find those made specifically for fishing such as "Mike's Glitter Mallows Trout Bait" also work very well.

Sounds like you're talking about the right location. We were not too far below Beech Island... just downstream from the Little Red River Trout Dock but above the shoals.

What part of the river is that and does it have public access?

For anyone interested, the hook remover in the video is a "Shoot Out" by Rainbow Plastics (rainbowplasticsDOTcom). An great tool to keep from harming the trout once you learn how to use it.

i just caught my first trout yesterday, it was a rainbow trout about 12" long

I like a good Pickerel Rig myself. 2 hooks on one line with the weight at the bottom. Mind you, I have only seen my Grandpa catch 2 fish on one line.

what do you consider being the best area's to fish on the little red, for rainbow, and brouwn trout. I am only familar with the lobo landing area a couple miles up and down from there. Seems to be real good fishing bout a half mile upstream from there..

and does that tool actually get the hook out? or does it cut the line at the end of the hook leaving the hook inside the fish?

It removes the hook without harming the fish. Every other hook remover I've seen will almost always kill the trout. It's called a Shoot Out by Rainbow Plastics. It's a pretty ingenious design. I've not seen another hook remover like it. They aren't particularly durable though, so buy two. ;-)

Should've kept the fish. They're dead anyway. Those hook removers won't stop the bleeding. Get some lures or a fly rod if you plan to release. Nothing wrong with bait, but you've got to be responsible about it if they're gut-hooked.

I'm not sure it matters but I've used "Red Anise" with very good results. Try adding a waxworm with the marshmallow (available where live bait is sold). Trout fishermen swear by them.
