those floats are good for creeks and streams since you don't need to cast far. I fish ponds and use a water bobber for distance - plus you can see it better when you cast far. Can't wait for OD myself!

The reason they use the 2lb test line is the trout magnet is to light to pull a heavier line off the spool. You can not cast these thing very far.

I just picked up a set of trout magnets and floats at cabelas today. I went over to a small pond near my house and caught 12 trout in 2 hours. Good 1st test. I'm going to try them out tomorrow at a local lake to see how they perform. My 3rd trip will be to the Poudre River to try it on native browns. Now that will be the ultimate test I think.

as you speculated... never use a swivel when rigging trout magnets, it totally kills the action on the fall. The TM jigheads also kill it with Gulp pinched crawlers, or with little 1'' segments of real pinched crawlers as well. I went out fishing from my float tube yesterday with a black TM jighead and a clear/silver fleck Trout Magnet grub because the previous day I noticed huge amounts of little clear/silver/black Chironomid pupae rising to the surface. Despite the Trout Magnet being about 4x the size of the real Chironomids, I managed to catch 4 fish and 4 (unfortunate) missed strikes. All I did was troll around extremely slowly (the only speed you really can troll from a float tube) with about 50 feet of line out and occasionally give the jig two or tree tiny little 1''-3'' micro twitches. I've also had great luck fishing Trout Magnets for Coastal Cutthroat Trout and Rainbows on tiny little creeks and rivers around the same size as your mice tails video. In those conditions I just pitch the jig into seams or just into the edge of seams without a float or anything and I tend to get slammed almost as soon as the jig hits the water.

Awesome! Thanks for the tips. I went out panfishing the other day in my kayak and I just brought out a jar of pinched crawlers and a few TM jigheads....Caught about 8 bluegill in an hour. I absolutely love those jig heads.

@@mcfishingmass Nice dude! I really wish we had resident Perciform species of all kinds out here. All the stocker lakes here have Pumpkinseeds, Smallmouth and theres 1 or 2 with Largies and Perch... but for the most part the panfish are all puny compared to their native range (theres at least a couple lakes with respectable size Bass tho). I really miss catching tea saucer Bluegills too back when I was a kid living back in Eastern Canada. I caught 6 Rainbows on TM jigs with a piece of crawler on em and 1 on a Rooster Tail today. Heading to a lake for the first time tmrw with decent sized Browns, as well as wild Rainbows and Cutthroats. I've been trying to get out a lot before they get to the point of arbitrary closures everywhere here in BC.

B G nice! Good luck. See we have the opposite here in mass, pan fish everywhere but no real giant ones. Good eating size tho and fun with the kids!

@@mcfishingmass Thanks buddy! Just got mine today. We've had some crazy rainstorms out here (WA, ID, OR) but as soon as the creeks and flows normalize, gonna be heading out and given 'em a try!! Hope you are well and have a great week!!

@@69adrummer You too! If you aren't getting hit with the float try it without and slowly hop it off the bottom. They usually hit it on the drop.

2 pound test is so thin anyway I feel like not using a leader shouldn't be an issue. Ive never used the trout magnet line before; but I've used other 2lb test for trout (without leader) fishing in clear water and it didn't make a difference. You should make a catch and cook video.

Andrew Morlang same here. Plus when I fish 2 lb test in rivers I break off a ton and never feel like tying on a leader plus hook. Just adds to the aggravation lol

@@mcfishingmass I use the 2 lb SOS as a leader and tie it to 6-8 lb braid just to have the convenience and strength of braid

John Wright good call. Plus braid helps set the hook much better than 2lb sos
