This is a non running Troy Bilt Super Bronco with a 208CC Engine. This is the Counter Rotating Tines, rear Tiller Model. It has not been used this year belongs to my neighbor and he could not get it started. The jet in the carburetor was totally clogged cleaned everything best I could and it start right up on the first pull. Let it run for about 30 minutes and it purring like a kitten again! Will do a follow up video after cleaning it up!

Great video. I borrowed my dad's same model tiller, same symptoms. I new it would be something clogged in the carb, but your video made it a 2-3 minute job to remove the carb. Mine was much cleaner inside, but same completely blocked jet. A a little carb cleaner, compressed air and a few minutes to put it back together, and I was tilling soil.

Just got one of these for free actually, the recoil pull string assembly was busted, so I replaced it for like 20 bucks, cranked it and it wouldn't start. Plug had spark, so I figured it was the carb, followed this video and 10 minutes later it's running like a top. Thanks so much for this!

My Colt FT would not start this year and I had promised to till a sister in law's garden besides ours. I looked at a few other videos but this was the winner. You provided real step-by-step instruction. Going in, I knew what to expect. Right down to the dirt and gunk. Obviously this is not my line of work. Thank you for posting this video as it gave me confidence to dig in.

EXCELLENT video. THANK YOU! We have the same exact Troy Built Rototiller but haven’t used it in a couple of years. Just like yours ours looks brand new because we only used it 2 seasons and put it in the shed. This year we’re doing a project and I expected to just start it right up! But no. Same symptoms as yours. I followed your video in the exact way you did it and sure enough that nozzle (orifice) was clogged. You said something about a wire to open it. I found that one strand of twisted electrical wire ( I untwisted it and cut 1 tiny strand) worked perfectly. I couldn’t get that lower nozzle/orifice you showed out but I got that wire through there and reamed the upper nozzle I did get out and it WAS plugged up. Cleaned everything really well, put everything back together following your excellent instructions and WALA! IT STARTED RIGHT UP! Gee maybe fixing small engines isn’t so difficult after all! I just finished tilling the 20X20 area we specked out. It ran strong and effective! Do you recommend draining the gas out of the carb for storage? To prevent it from clogging again?

Like others who have comments, a mechanic I am not! Things were going very well removing the carburetorha until the very last task of pulling out the valve. I simply couldn't tell what kind of screwdriver to use. It was difficult to look down into the hole. I decided to give its a good shot of cleaner and hope dit would work. There was a lot of crud in the bowl which I cleaned out as well. I gave it a pull and with a surprising backfire it indeed started. I wish I could I could have pulled the valve out but was afraid I would break something by forcing to much. All in all, though, I was happy to get it going. Thanks!

Thanks for the video. I followed it and was able to get a Troy Bilt Super Bronco going after sitting for years. It was totally clogged up. I would add to check that the the float valve works before reassembly and a tip to get a stuck jet assembly is to put a flat blade screwdriver into the barrel and push the assembly out.

I watched a few of these videos on Honda type carburetors. Your was excellent. From the other videos I did manage to get my carburetor cleaned properly properly. I wish I would have seen your video first. I don't know if you're up for doing any editing of your video, but I did encounter a problem during my rebuild. Perhaps others can learn from it. After I removed the primary jet, I had difficulty getting the longer nozzle out of the center of the carburetor. It was stuck with corrosion and wouldn't fall out. Using a screwdriver through the throttle plate I was able to push it a little bit like a 16th of an inch to clear the carburetor throat, but it would not come further. I went and got some monofilament fishing line and I was able to clear the obstruction inside with an large needle. After I was able to clear the obstructions in the longer atomizer I used a piece of monofilament fishing line from my salt water gear. I fished it down the hole and through the body of that atomizer and then tied a big fat knot on the end of that was exposed in the carburetor throat. The knot was large enough to not fit back through that hole so by pulling on the opposite end of the fishing line with some significant force I managed to pull it out of the carburetor body. After I got it all cleaned up my machine started on the first pull. I have another piece of equipment that has the same carburetor that has some starting issues, now I have confidence that I can get that pressure washer working. Thank you for a most excellent video. For the first time I subscribed hit the like button and shared your video. Well done sir, and thanks for helping your neighbor. That's missing so much nowadays. 👍👍✌️

Great Job! I've found that storing my equipment with no fuel saves this. Also, the local Marathon station has a pump that sells "RV" fuel. It's a 90 octane fuel with no alcohol. It's more like the gas I remember back in the 60's and 70's. It is more expensive than auto fuel, about $1 a gallon more, but runs very well and stores better. Keep up the good work....

I understand that the reason for adding alcohol is to consume over-produced corn. While alcohol helps reduce pollution, producing alcohol in such way increases pollution as producing fertilizer for corn grow is a polluting thing.

Looks just like the replacement 'Predator' Harbor Freight engine that is on mine. The 'needle valve' on the carb is a bit tricky; 1/4 turn at a time to hone it in. Also the small gas intake tube up on the gas tank cracks easily and leaks air. I put tape around it so far and it works.

SO, I have a CRT troybuilt, newer model, about 5 years old now. Worked great first 3 years, then 2 yrs back had the carb rebuilt. THAT cost me a about 300 bucks, this year it wouldn't start again! So I took it upon myself to try and save some money. CLeaned out the bowl jet and that insert behind it. Still won't run. It's not getting fuel into the carb is my best guess. I suppose I'll take it down again and see if maybe I screwed something up. Im NOT taking it back to a SER again.. this sort of helped, but even tho this one "looks" a lot like my pro line, the engine is a B&S on mine...lots more hose's and crap attached on it. Oh well guess I will try again... good video man. BTW I say not getting fuel, because it will start if I feed a little into the top of the carb, runs until that's gone then dies...
@mountainbikekayak
@mountainbikekayak 7 жыл бұрын
Hello GW thanks for viewing! You got a really nice machine they must have started adding these newer engines in the past few years. Prefer the Briggs and Stratton engines, sounds like something is still plugged up and/or the float is not moving up or down allowing fuel in the bowl. Is fuel flowing from the gas line ok when disconnected from the carburetor? If so then if you take this apart again you will see if any fuel is in the bowl if so then something within those nozzle/jet needs to cleaned again. Spray out everything with carburetor cleaner (wear safety glasses!) . Where the needle sits that passage is where the fuel comes in. Make sure that is free and you blow air into that inlet with the float bowl out. If no fuel then that float is sticking try moving it up and down with your hand make sure that float pin is clean. Hey been many times I have taken these apart more than once to figure out what caused a blockage. 2nd time is a charm! Just make sure everything is really clean including all those little holes in the nozzle. Let me know what you find, thanks!

Great video! I have this exact model and have been suffering through the exact same problems. I even bought a replacement carb ($68), but just cannot keep it clean between seasons. I tried to disassemble the carb to clean the jet, but I just could not get the jet screw to loosen up and come out. So I thought that it was pinned into the carb body, but it does have a slot for a screwdriver. I was able to run a small wire through it without removing the jet screw and that worked once, but not on the second try. I will try again to unscrew it because rebuilding is definitely cheaper than buying a new one! Any advice for keeping it clean over the winter? I run it dry, but that doesn't seem to help much. It still looks like the carb in your video, i.e. clogged. This machine has the "no-name engine" and Chinese ("huayi") carb. The carb seems unusually prone to fouling. I've had the machine for 5 years, using it just in the early spring to till my garden. I am on my 3rd carb. I hope that I can get one of the clogged ones apart enough to clean it. Thanks for the GREAT VIDEO!!!

Really nice looking machine. Its a bit disheartening to know that Troy Bilt has gone to using "no-name" engines. I've heard that they are now made by MTD. That doesn't mean they are junk. It does mean that that machine probably won't last as long as my fathers tiller. I guess that's our new reality across the board. Thanks for sharing.

Hello Charlie thanks for viewing! You are so right this was such a well know brand as your father had that would last a generation or 3. Still see some of those older ones around, mergers, mass production, cost savings and that key word stock holder value has changed all our great products. They need to include fuel cut offs on these no-name engines, the specs calls it a Troy Bilt engine. For this one to be that new this really should not have happened. Will have a happy neighbor to get this back running will see how well this over time will hold up you take care Charlie!

Actually it’s not disheartening at all. These are Powermore brand engines that have proven to be more durable and longer lasting than Briggs or Tecumseh ever were. The roller bearing on the crank is nice, like my CR500R, and I love how the fast acting governor doesn’t loose any rpm as it comes under a load. I have 3 of these engines in commercial service and have never had fuel related issues, or any issues with the motors at all. I saw the comment that this happened because of a lack of a fuel shutoff. It’s not because of a lack of a fuel shutoff that the carb in the video plugged up, it’s because of using regular gas which has ethanol in it that starts to go bad in as little as 30 days. The trick is to buy only recreational fuel which is 100% gas with no ethanol. With a 4year shelf life you do not need to drain the fuel or run it dry at the end of the season. Simply leave it in and start it easily the next spring. Regular gas with 10% ethanol should only be used in cars as it is used up so quickly it doesn’t have a chance to go bad.

Good job getting that one working. I wonder if that Engine is a one of those MTD Powermore Chinese Honda Clones. The Carb kind of looks similar carb on a powermower engine I attempted to get to working on a trash picked lawnmower. It needed a new Carb ($50) and primer ($10) and wasn't worth it.

Hello D Fields thanks for viewing! It is indeed one of those clone engines whomever makes these. Hard to determine from the SN # or engine stamping where they are made, Troy Bilt specs call it a Troy Bilt engine? Seeing these on pretty much any kind of power equipment now in the local home stores. The carburetor looks much like what is on Kohler engines, the few I have worked on seem to be ok just not sure of the long term reliability. I agree with you, even to find a trash pick freebie not worth spending $60 or more on that lawn mower.

I did fine up to the point where the video paused, then restarted and you said "the hardest part was getting that fuel line off" but didn't tell how you did it. Mine's really stuck and I'm wrestling with it and twisting but it's starting to crack and split. Any tips? Wiggling wouldn't do it, the line was fused to the connector, used a small flathead screwdriver all around to work it loose. Got it all cleaned and reassembled, cranked right up! Lot of smoke initially until the oil burned off the exhaust. Thanks for the video, very helpful.

YUP Freakin' good machine. Got my Dad the 7 HP job with a Kohler engine. Never had trouble till 25 yrs later. He thought it was the carb altho he always turned off gas a few min. b4 shutting down engine, same as I do with a 91 Sporty 1200, shuttin gas off a few blocks from home to not leave gas in the carb.Turns out it was the magneto. made enough spark to run about half throttle. After that, ran like well u know. he put in a new carb, still w same issue. I hookt up reg. car ig. coil thru battery and engines points. ran perfect. took the battery out an hookt car coil between the wire from magneto low voltage winding, other side of coil to the points. The magneto is a step-up transformer as is the automobile ignition coil. 200 turns medium wire to 20,000 turns much finer wire. The reason a coil will not work good is either dampness which can be sometimes fixt by putting in an oven at lowest setting for a few hours, altho Mom was not pleased at all. or a bad condenser. The magneto works by induction of mag field. Anyway Magneto coils do go bad, they arc over internally reducing 1,000's of volts to plug. Thanks for the video, wish it actually showed you putting it all together rather than saying what you were gonna do and skipping to when it was done. But still appreciated.

Outstanding video. Very helpful. I have the exact same tiller giving me the same problem. Question about the choke...once its running, does the choke need to be wide open?

Mine's a 2008, these tillers hasn't change much. Mine use to run good but now only runs on half choke, must be carb issue. I just like to know why theres no fuel filter on Troy-Bilt, motors need clean fuel to run right......

I have one just like that. It sat for 4 yrs. I tried to crank it a wk. ago and still working with it. I got the carb. off and cleaned. Noticed the gaskets did not have any seal on them so I left it like that. Put it back on and carb. leaks. Bought new gaskets and put them on, still leak. I then ordered some gasket sealer and put it on. The thing still leaks. What am I doing wrong???

That is a "CHonda" Chinese clone, I think it's a sign of the times of manufacturing to stay competitive. Every one that I've repaired work great.

Hello Glen thanks for viewing, a few message also called this as being a Clone Honda engines as well. The Troy Bilt Super Bronco engine Specifications just list it as a Troy Bilt Engine. Repaired a neighbors Generac generator that had the same type of engine and they called it a Generac engine! They seem to run fine not sure of the long term reliability but you see these on just about every type of power equipment now. As you say a sign of the times for competition and I am sure as well as that common phrase "stock holder value".

Yep. This should be the very first thing you do every spring. Vice grip the fuel line. Drop the bowl and clean it. Remove the float and clean it and the jet. Blow the carb out. Put the float/jet back in. Make sure it cycles freely. Put the bowl back on. Remove the vice grip from the fuel line.

Have the 2008 model. Troy Bilt Super Bronco Troy Bilt no longer carries the Carburetor bowl gaskets. You have to buy a new Carburetor. Where can you find the gaskets by themselves?
