CSX Drone sled 9156 heads south at Ann Street and over Fuller Diamond, crossing with the Grand Rapids Eastern RR, sporting it's RS5T horn.
An interesting note, this unit started out with a RS5T horn, but was later givin a K5LA as with the rest of the B-boats. But, later, this unit was once again givin a RS5T. This drone set usually can be seen kicking cars in CSXT's Wyoming Yard in Wyoming, Michigan.
This train is known as the "West Side Job" as it services the West Side of Grand Rapids. There are 3 points of switching:
- "Joe Brown", Padnos Iron & Metal's Front Street Facility
- The interchange with the Grand Rapids Eastern at Fuller Jct
- And then Padnos' Turner Street Facility, where this train is coming from
Locomotive Consist:
- CSX 9156 [RCPHG4]
- CSX 1524 [GP15T]
Location/Time:
- Fuller Jct/Ann Street Crossing [Grand Rapids, MI] on 7-10-12 at 20:15 EDT

CSXT 9156 is one of their RC drones, assigned to Wyoming Yard. This job, know as the "west side job", runs daily weekdays. Thing is, there is only about a 25% chance this loco goes north, because there are usually 4 sets of power in Wyoming. 2 drone sets, and then 2 more Geeps. And of course when 9156 does make the run, it only leads for half the time. So you're down to 1/8th. I myself have only seen or heard it do this job a handful of times since, but I only get updates about once per week.

The drone is usually on the East End Yard switcher at Wyoming Yard, and does come up to switch Padnos fairly often. When it's not the drone set, it's a geep from the North End Yard Job. This job has been running Mon-Fri lately, sometimes skipping a day or two. I'd say a few times a month this unit will go up there, but it's random...and I mean it lol

I'd like to use a GE steel bell off an Amtrak Genesis locomotive and a Leslie RS5T-RRO Seaboard horn, would be an excellent mix.

When in the world did CSX Rebuild the old B36-7 into one of these Road slugs? I was waiting to here the old FDL-16 and famous GE "puffing" exhaust to come and all I got was the Turbo of a EMD GP40-2 When the engineer throttle them up :(

Late 1990s/Early 2000s AFAIK. They're not slugs...no prime mover, no traction motors. They existed simply to house Remote Control equipment. That way, non-RC powered engines could be MU'd to the "Drone" and be controlled via RC. The idea was to assign these things to yards so they could rotate out the Geeps instead of pulling the limited RC geeps for servicing and leaving the yard to go buns up. It also means large road power can be RC'd and used to switch cars also. Alas, the last one (9151) was retired last month.

Thornapple River Rail Series Okay, NS has some slugs ID as RCM4C and RPE4C as well as GPTEB. I thought the 9156 still had traction motors just no Prime mover or electronics to go with it. I'm used to them but the P stands for platform RCPHG4 stands for I believe-Remote Control Platform H______ G_______ 4axles. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Ryan Hatterer I'm not sure what the H stands for, but the G in this case in General Electric, and the 4 is four axles. Likewise, RCPHG6s were rebuilds of the C30-7s, and RCPHE4s were EMD rebuilds (E for EMD, 4=four axles)

@ThornappleRiverRailSeries

Nope, RCPHG4. It's an RC drone. No traction motors, no prime mover, no dynamic brakes. Basically just a cab and airbrakes, with RC equipment, to make anything else MU'd to it RC. No need for these anymore now that there are enough operable RC locomotives on the roster. This one was retired and scrapped a few years ago.
