Grand Rapids Eastern may be home to the shortest trains of any Michigan G&W property, but that does not mean the aging GP9 #24 doesn't get a workout!
On April 18th, the #24 in Long Hood Forward orientation drags 11 loaded CHs up the hill in Grand Rapids and over the intersection of Leonard & Plainfield streets. The #24 howls as it tries to keep the train moving at a good clip.
Rumor has it this unit will never see G&W orange, and will be sold/scrapped and then replaced by a larger GP unit, likely a GP38 from Marquette Rail.
Leonard is a classic example of a crossing/intersection, with four cantilever crossing installments.
