The road is a very lonely place when things go sideways. For what it's worth, you did a very good job explaining things to your viewers. Those of us who have been in that situation were right there with you.

It sucks to be broken down out away from home. I spent a week in South Bend Indiana back in the nineties while truck was getting rebuilt at Caterpillar. Blew a tip off a injector and destroyed the motor. Spent 5 days in a hotel in Albany New York because I blew a turbo on a Detroit on a Friday and the shop wasn't going to touch it till Monday. It sucks. Got my purchase, enjoyed the note. Remember talking to me on the phone? Well I jumped in....I have 3 up.

#144 Mr. Schmidt, I know your pain. It will be July 24th, before I can get my Motorhome in the shop for repairs. The R/V Service Centers are very busy at this time of the year. But for you, it's your employment---food on the table. If the wheels aren't turning, your not earning! I'm retired, but not going anywhere soon---wasting my summer away. At the age of 76, I don't have that much time. Happiness is The Highway!

Once had same happen to me. Pulled fan off, used pliers to squeeze leaks shut as much as possible and dumped a can of, bad habit tobacco into radiator. Pepper, raw eggs also work. Was enough to slow the leak and get 350 miles back home. Sometimes need some out of the box ingenuity. Good luck partner

On a ski trip in college, some radiator tubes got cut by foreign object damage, in a 1973 Triumph GT6 MK3 2-seater. A friend of mine was in the college auto racing club. He crumpled up aluminum foil, rolled it between his fingers to shape it to fit into each cut tube, with extra inbetween any spaces where he could plug multiple tubes from one gash. Jammed in it, then crimped the tubes any which way we could. Some with pliers, some with hammers from both sides, some doing that in many places. Once a tube is cut and then shut, shutting it in 5 places is better than shutting it in 1 place. Then we loaded 10 gallon jugs of water into the car. Radiator cap on just to the first click, to prevent splashing/bubbling out, but not to create/hold pressure. Every 30 minutes, I stopped and topped up the water. Made it from Killington to Boston using only about 3 or 4 gallons of water. A girl I'd met on that trip, which was during my year off from college (I was invited skiing by my friends on the college newspaper), kindly invited me to spend the night with her, so I could drive home during daylight. That was 46 years ago. Our twins are 36, we've been divorced for 32 years, and all's well that ends well. Which means not having to see each other too often, just when dealing with major family events, now things like grandkid birthday parties. No need to use antifreeze in a system that is leaking it out. Water is fine. Preferably distilled or reverse osmosis, but really anything will do temporarily. Just plan on doing a drain and fill once your system is back up to snuff, and of course don't let it freeze in the meantime without adding antifreeze.

My dad was a long-distance trucker back when I was a kid in the 1970's and 1980's. I so remember how it seemed as though every time a holiday or vacation was coming up, his truck would break down. We were okay with it, though. I don't remember us needing therapy or anything as adults, haha. I love watching your channel because it takes me back to my youth.
@BMW_Mustang_Dodge17 күн бұрын
My uncle had the same thing happen. Well it put a 8 inch hole in the radiator. Went and got a bucket of quick Crete let it dry good, took off the fan, got some buckets of water and hit the road 8 hours home. Sadly happened twice on his t2000 within 3 years and roughly just as far did the same method twice and made it both times without a tow lol!

Back in the day when I owned my own truck, I had a 2200 Honda suitcase generator and a 7000Btu stand up A/C strapped into the passenger seat pointing back to the sleeper. On super hot days I couldn't get it below 85 in the sleeper but whenever the sun went down or it was 90 or less ambient temp, it kept the sleeper cool enough for my dog and me. The generator weighed 56 pounds and the A/C about the same but I got the full benefit of the 400 - 550 pound allowance for APU in various states. All the gasoline to run the generator was tax deductible as well.

The main key to the whole process was the “thinking process”. Put a plan together and feel good about it. Prioritize what you needs to be done. Load is #1 priority. Parts availability. Why wait til Monday to get them ordered. Utilize the weekend in your favor. Plan the work, do it yourself or have someone do it. Accommodations, go home, get a room for the duration. Just gotta think it all through and make the right choices. Good luck with your new project. Stay safe, stay happy!

Really hated seeing this one bud! My stomach was noting up just watching you stay calm "on the outside". It's one of or the hardest truths of trucking, the brake down well away from home. I always drove as a hired driver so it wasn't my repair dime, but it's hard to swallow a break down that leaves you stranded! Thanks for showing the whole driving enchilada, not all of it is pleasant!
