Trucks Go on Streaming: How Digital Cameras Will Replace Traditional Mirrors.

A technology that is mostly associated with autonomous vehicles like the Tesla Semi and Nikola can be installed today in any truck. Digital cameras bring significant advantages for the truck drivers in terms of stress level, safety and also economics. ExpovistaTV was at the recent North American Commercial Vehicle Show and we met with some of the providers of this technology. Here is our report.

I have an issue with one part of this video. Shortly after the 4 minute mark. This increase, is statistically NOT due to truck drivers and is in fact due to everyone else around the truck. Mirrors don't fix everyone else. It's not like most of the situations are really avoidable.

These mirrors sound good on paper, and they sound good to the engineering firm pushing them, but ask drivers who actually use them, and you'll get a more real honest evalution. These mirrors in no way shape or form enhance visibility, if anything they reduce your visibility by about 30% or more, especially if don't have the best eyesight or wear glasses. Where I work, some drivers have even elected to quit, rather than be forced to use these mirrors, cause they just can't see with them. Older drivers usually, the objects in the mirror are just to small.

shouldn't be driving if you have bad eyesight. and how is it harder than using normal mirrors

@@Supraboyes If only those with 20/20 vision could drive, that would remove about 80% of all drivers, CDL and Cars, so that's not the issue. And 'mirror eye' simply reduces normal vision size by about 30%, and it gets worse with distance behind rig. A screen cannot replace natural eyesight, there's glare, and at night it's just all black. There is no 'depth'... Driving a semi truck is not like playing some video game. Good drivers, however, simply adjust to the situation. But gladly even the companies that use them realize it was nothing more than a sales sham and so are giving drivers their normal glass mirrors back.

@@Supraboyes Been driving safely for over 20 years with a CDL, mountains, snow, Ice, freezing fog, freezing rain, deserts, inner cities, Canada and more, so please, no lessons, my record speaks.

How about adding night vision ? I seriously thought it being a digital camera it would have features phones have. No they're horrible. Even a mosquito on the camera will destroy the vision. Any small debris or rain water fucks up what you can see. Do you have any idea how many issues we have with them since they were installed on our buses ? Dude honestly it introduces issues and solves a non existing problem.

Bad idea. Why cars never adapted this technology. 1 bird sh... will cover camera but only 1/50 of mirror. This is just advertising to sale this technology. Cleaning lenses will make them milky. Drivers will not use special cleaning procedures. If you know a bit about sensors in photography then you know how many stops of light sensor can do compare to a human eye. If camera sensor doesn't have enough light it will replace it with noise. Real mirrors don't need elecricity and are cheaper to replace. Biggest problem with this is covering wide angle in turns and backing. With real mirror all what you do is move head backwards and you can see sleeper. Move head forward and you can see what is next to you.
