Putting money into renewable electricity generation and making electric vehicles more affordable and practical would actually do something for the environment. Simply taxing people for using fossil fuels isn't going to help the environment, it's an obvious cash grab. Not like we need to be concerned about our carbon footprint anyways. China produces almost a third of global emissions and the US produces more than 10 times Canada's emissions.

Conservatives just want to keep the rich even richer. Liberals need money to transition to greener infrastructure. You really think we can keep burning F**king gas for another 50 years?

Yeah, based on last year and this year, where I live, it's getting wetter and cooler. Even though media claims it's hotter here, environment Canada data doesn't support it (or the fact that we know how the weather is acting without being told).

Unfortunately in BC, we're definitely experiencing longer, hotter summers with increased heat, droughts and forest fires. With this said, I do not believe that the carbon tax will help anything. In contrast, my family lives on east coast of Canada and spring/summers are wetter of late, and normal to cool in temp, with a few very hot days thrown in. But the idea isn't it is just a tax it is supposed to make people and corporations try to think of ways to do things greener and be rewarded for it. It is a way for us to shift our mindset off of fossil fuels and into greener energy. And yes if countries all over the world including the biggest polluters adopted some form of carbon tax or carbon market it will have an impact on weather absolutely.

Canada can go to zero emissions tomorrow and it will have zero impact on the climate. I agree that we should shift our mindset from fossil fuels, but lets do it with out putting everyone in the poor house. We are told to reduce emissions and yet if you go to Walmart, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, any other store and the majority of the stuff in these stores is made in China, more than likely made with electricity from coal fired plants and shipped across the world using fossil fuels. We have to start thinking out side the box if we want to will solve this problem.
