He was very good at Leicester, the system fit him better, he wasn't under as much pressure to perform. The problem with playing at a big club is you need to be so mentally strong, you put in one bad performance and your name is trending on twitter with thousands of "fans" calling for you to be dropped. It's not good for confidence, and when you don't have confidence you can't play well. The best big club players can create their own confidence, can ignore critics and "fans" and play their own game. Maguire is a very good centreback but he doesn't have the elite mentality of the great centrebacks, he needs people to like him and you will never get that at a club like United unless you play solid for 3-4 years straight and win trophies. He needs to leave for the right system, West Ham would be a good club for him. Moyes is a good player manager and will get the best out of him.

Reality is, he presented himself as captain but never took accountability. Now he plays in a system that simply doesn’t suit him. United try to play a high line and he can’t do that

It’s so simple, he’s calamitous and extremely slow which makes it impossible to play a high line. It was less noticeable under Ole when we sat extremely deep, namely 19-20

Leicester fan here, I think he has regressed since leaving us, but at the same time I dont think he was ever good enough to be in a team that wants a title and to win the CL. Was a panic buy in my opinion on the basis of him being young and English.

tbf to him, for the first two seasons at man utd he was mostly solid but he did have a lot of protection from mcfred and the fullbacks. However, the last few seasons have shown how much of a liability he is as he literally makes players around him drop to his level. Lindelof was pretty average for years alongside maguire but varane and martinez have shown the levels of a top class cb such that when lindelof's not playing with maguire he is actually a very measured player

I think people forget how integral Wes Morgan was to the Leicester backline and how much that benefitted Harry. They bought him, thinking they bought a leader, but Harry needs a solid CB next to him. I think Harry would have been his best again with Ruduger or VVD next to him.

Its a combination of issues with Harry. The long and short of it is his skills never matched up with his purchase price, went to one of the biggest clubs in the world and then was made captain. He succumbed to the pressure and then the lack of confidence from that compounded the issue. He will do better at a smaller more defensive club I'm sure.

Completely disagree with Brian. West Ham play alot deeper and have the ball alot less which will suit him far more. Heard he rejected a move but I'd guess he's trying to squeeze every penny out of Man United that he possibly can, then seal the move on deadline day.

Hes shown enough at Leicester, england and the odd games at man u to show hes got some talent. It's completely different playing at man u with no cover to playing at west ham with a midfield behind the ball , slower rhythm and less playing from the back. Just look at smalling at Roma compared to Man U.

the worst characteristic Harry has is that he incredibly lack spatial awareness, he seems ton constantly get on the worse positions to get the ball. one example is the last match against sevilla, where he asks de gea for the ball while he's right in the middle of the box and marked by one player and another one marking the pass lane. or when he constantly put opposite players onside

Maguire was very good when we sat on our own box and played on the counter under Ole. But he is horrible in a high line and get lost to easily. He would look good in a side that sits back a little. It also doesn't help that southgate will call him up regardless if he plays or not.

I think Maguire is symptomatic of an overall recruitment issue that seems to persist at United. You look at City, Liverpool and now Arsenal. These are clubs that have a very strict player profile that they follow when signing players, both in terms of hard skills and personality and these profiles exist to help with overall long term squad planning. United haven’t acted like that in a very long time. They seem to happily throw money at the newest hyped up player who’s just come off a great season and have no further idea beyond that. They’ve been gambling with their squad building for too long and Maguire is a symptom of that.

In one sense - yes, Maguire was always the wrong profile of player. However, you can't say there's much wrong with him in terms of personality - he backs himself, takes on responsibility, tries to lead, even when things are going badly for him. Psychologically he's actually the right profile. He just can't deliver performances to go along with that.

Harry put the pressure on himself by his conduct off the pitch, the noises that come out of his camp and the interviews he's given. He is slow (hence why he looks better in an England shirt), mistake prone, clumsy, lacks the requisite awareness for a CB. But he can do a header 😂

I think you missed the point of being exposed. At west ham he will not be exposed because we play more compact amd has people around him, he just has to win headers and clear it. The same as England. Exposed is when your defense is more spread out and you end up having defenders pressing and running at you which happens at united and you're alone, especially with ten haags style, i mean, onana is better on the ball than maguire. I can't see him getting any game time at united.

As a united fan, I think Harry works in a certain system, he's not a bad player but he gets villified because every passionate fan base has a toxic element. There's just as many fickle arseholes as there are great people, just the nature of the beast. He simply can't play in our system and I wish him all the best at another club, he has done some good things for the shirt in the past but it's time for him to move on.

Wherever he plays in the pl, he will be targeted as a weakness for his lack of vision, pace & general football IQ. Unfortunately he's done what we all knew he would do, refused a move that would guarantee him first team football to sit in our reserves hoping for an injury of our better players. When a career long left back is taking your place in central defence, then being stripped of the captaincy & left on the bench should have been enough of a hint it's time to go. But Harry being Harry, he thinks he deserves unlimited chances to show he's not as bad as everyone knows he really is. But remember, he's got nothing to prove.
