That's a perfect Spanish "R" but in Puerto Rico specially in the mountains area our "R" is pretty much like the french from the throat 😮

I'm a native English speaker. I can roll my r's (or rather, roll my d's) but it sounds the same imo. But I can only do it if the r is in a word, like "Burro". I can't do it if the r is at the end of the word, like El Salvador. It just sounds like El Salvador-r-r-uh

I think not enough people place emphasis on how the tongue and breath are actually used. Like, I’ve heard tons and tons about placement (which I’ve got), but there’s obv extra stuff going on, like how loose or tight your tongue is (it’s a muscle after all), how quick is the breath, what if you have issues with things like jaw tension (or just naturally don’t know how to relax your tongue). I believe the tension in my own tongue is the reason I’ve (still) never been able to do this. But thanks for at least clarifying the placement for me by comparing it to a placement that already exists in English. That does help confirm it more solidly (well, except I’m not sure if you’re referring to where the tongue is when you annunciate the ‘t’ in “pot”, or round it out into a soft ‘d’ sound, or drop the sound altogether as we often do in English. Some clarity on that point would be useful since everyone naturally says it differently, ie not a lot of people actually tend to annunciate their words as native English speakers)…

What I struggle with is it feels like to roll the R requires pushing too much air, where I can’t actually **say** the word it’s in. (I think that would make more sense if you could hear how I’m trying to do it) So I don’t think I’m practicing it right because it still feels like too much strain…

I have no problem doing the short r, but the long r gets me. I can do it sometimes, but sometimes it’s like it just won’t come out. I think it’s easier when an o comes after (like “burro”) than when an e comes after (like “erre”) but I don’t know why. Is this something that I’ll just get better at with practice or is there something I’m not understanding about making the sound flow better?
