In this video, we are checking out some incredible true wireless studio headphones (that are NOT Bluetooth). These are the TMA-2 Studio Wireless+ by Ai Ai Ai Audio. These are a way to truly have wireless audio headphones for your studio for recording/mixing/tracking/etc. It's incredible to not be tethered to a cable while you are recording, and these have replaced my headphones of the last 15 years because I love them so much.

I love these headphones. The Yamaha competitors were unable to compare (audio dropouts constantly, low fidelity sound) so I returned them. The problem with the AIAIAI headphones is they clip if the signal is too strong from the audio interface, so if you want to find the balance between dropping the volume on the headphones (to get rid of the hiss) while raising the signal level from the interface, you cannot always find that happy medium while avoiding clipping, especially if you use different sound sources, each of which is mastered differently, etc. It's not a huge issue (unless you're using a guitar with a very low output pickup that requires you to crank the gain on the interface, and that makes finding the sweet spot of no hiss but no clipping quite challenging), but it can be annoying and it would be great if there's more headroom with future iterations to avoid this clipping issue. Secondly, the overall signal on these (when used wirelessly) is weaker than when you use them wired, but I don't think wireless technology has evolved enough now to compare. When are we going to have wireless electricity already? :P

I have the audio-Technica ATH-M50xBT Headphones , which I've had for a few years,, and I wanted them to be wireless (I know Bluetooth would not work) so, I saw your review on the Lekato wireless in-ear monitor. I bought the Lekato system and I mounted the receiver on the headphones and the transmitter on my audio interface. It works great. Its a cheap way to make your headphones wireless. It's not as slick as the AIAIAI, but it works.

Nice! Welcome to the world of wireless! And in general, you can have up to 4 wireless in a rack in my experience. More than that you’ll want to combine or space them out. Keeping them 6-10 feet away is good practice. I do that in many bands and it works well

I was looking at a set of these, which oddly directed me to your channel where I checked out in ear solutions and ended up picking up a lekato wireless set which I used with my standard studio headphones or in ears depending on what I'm after. I use this for practice and creating ideas and it was a much cheaper solution

Great video ! a friend of mine works at a music store ! we checked these headphones last night in my studio, actually they sound like crap on flat EQ ! my wireless unit is AKG (K-145) world studio standard headphone with a cheap NU-X guitar wireless system, the AI AI AI's price is expensive for a headphone that needs massive EQ ! also you didn't mention the signal is mildly compressed!

Very helpful video, as always! These have to be plugged into some kind of an amp, right? They can't be plugged directly into a guitar like the Boss Waza Air, can they? If the transmitter has to be plugged into an amp, can you use a wireless guitar transmitter to send the signal to the amp or will the latency on the guitar transmitter added to the latency on the headphones result in the delay being noticeable? I'd like to be able to use something like this on both my keyboard and my guitar, but it seems like none of the big three of these out there (this one, the Yamaha YH-WL500, and the Boss Waza Air) can attach *directly* to both a guitar and a keyboard.
@ScottUhlMusic

If you use another cheap wireless you likely will hear the latency with compounded latency. But you can plug these into other sources as well, not just an audio interface

I hate wires! So these are God send:-) however I've been a little bit angry for a long time. And the reason for that is that I've been using wireless transmitter/receivers from line 6 to Xvive and Nux for guitar. I love these products as they do what they're supposed to do in that they eliminate a cable. The reason I'm angry is that for so long we've had this tech but it hasn't been used in headphones. Relatively speaking I'm just a beginner when it comes to recording, which I only do at home. But the annoyance of a headphone wire is even more annoying when you've known all along the tech exists but it's not being utilized for headphones. I will not be completely at peace until wireless monitoring earbuds exist. Imagine no battery pack with a cable going to your earbuds😮 So what I'm suggesting here is wireless studio earbuds!!!

Good review. But I have to HARD disagree on the "you cannot hear the latency". This is very misleading. The latency is simply there, no matter if you hear it or not. I actually researched this topic when buying my first wireless and tested myself then, and now I did it again. Pod Go has (as I recall testing this as well) around 5 ms of latency on a simple preset. When playing basic funk 16th groove, adding 16 ms of wet delay comes dangerously close to my comfort threshold. And that's with a cable and wired inears, if I add my xvive that's another 6 ms and the playing becomes really awkward. Of course, everyone has a different tolerance for this, very likely that this specific headphones will be just fine for majority of people. Just wanted to point this out. I guess I became the person you were talking about in this video, but what can I do :P
@ScottUhlMusic
@ScottUhlMusic 8 ай бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I appreciate it, butI do stand by what I said though. I absolutely cannot feel or hear latency with these. With latency, you can get COMPOUNDED latency if you have far too many things with latency adding up together. That’s true with anything. And 2nd check your buffer size on your DAW. Your buffer size might be set too high and you might get latency already. Set the buffer size lower and just make sure you don’t get any clicks or pops 👍 Hopefully that helps!
