The left hook is the hardest punch in boxing to teach and the hardest punch in boxing to learn, because of the different mechanics involved. The great old school trainers call the hook a pull punch, meaning everything comes across and your pulling the punch back to your rear foot. If you miss the hook you can still come back with a straight right or uppercut. According to the old school trainers, before you throw the hook you must first put yourself in a position to throw the hook. Taking your head over your right knee turning your left heel out and bringing everything across to your back foot. Some guys have what you call a live left hook like Oscar De La La Hoya, Phoenix Trinidad, Jeff Hook Lacey, these guys could throw the hook from any position and didn't have to be in the proper position to throw the hook. The hook is not just thrown from your hip only but it helps. Many different philosophies on how to throw the left hook. You can't go wrong with old school proper fundamentals and techniques becoming fundamentally and technically correct.

I love this technique, I generate power for my hook from my torso and shoulder. Time to re-learn how to throw a hook. The thing that I like the most with this technique is that you go back to balance very quick giving you more time to react to what your opponent is doing whether it be blocking, slipping, counter punching, etc. You will be in ready mode quicker than your opponent.

Marvin, You are very impressive as a coach. Where are you located? Are you in California? I would very much like to connect with you. I have a new line of training equipment for fighters that I would like to get your opinion on. If you like it, I would be happy to give you a couple sets.

Hey, I'm Chris, I used to train with Marvin before I moved. He still teaches at CSW, and that is located at 4080 North Palm Street #801, Fullerton, California 92835. This isn't his channel a friend film him and he ask Marvin if it's ok to upload it on youtube, but what he teaches should be more famous than what it is now, his true boxing system is different than all the other disciplines I've ever trained, fighting and life isn't choreographed, what he teaches is never choreographed, he teaches to learn to adjust. Marvin emphasize on balance, form, always keeping your rifle on your opponent, always moving your feet. He teaches to be a weapon not a target, so blocking or checking is a being like a heavy bag or a target, people who Bob and weaves are a moving target. So than be a weapon, I can go on but people should learn from him.

The moment the bell rings you must lead and start suppressing your opponents with jabs. If you wait for the action to start, you're a stationary target. So be a moving weapon. While you are moving to the opposite direction of your opponent's power hand, you should also fire multiple jabs. The point is you should be the one leading and they are the ones who are occupied with incoming shots, not the other way around. If they do fire shots at you at the same time you are doing this, like a overhand right or a wide hook, lower your stance or position (so duck) but still be balance and moving to the opposite direction of their power hand and fire at their body. Once that punch has passed you, raise your position or stance (stand up) and still be moving and firing. Or if they throw a wide haymaker and if you throw a straight jab to their face, your linear clean jab will score before his wide curvature shot will. You can score to their face and than duck, but you have to be moving and firing. Be a suppressing moving weapon.

This is just a short hook not a real hook, its for speed or out boxers, the further back and faster you move it the stronger it will be, but it gives your opponent more time to react.
