I'm very new to commands through shell ect. Can you please tell me exactly what to type into my shell to get the Movies, TV and Music folders at 1:24 please. Also, I've seen a lot of comments about user permissions, so if that's something i need to change through shell or somewhere else and advice would be well appreciated. Please and thank you. edit: i've set my mount point to /mnt/tank/plex media but cd /mnt/tank/plex media and cd /mnt/tank/plex\media aren't valid.

Can it scan videos in 2 folders, like the main folder which is called "Anime" and the folder which contains the video is called "AnimeTitle", can it be scanned?

The directory building part is exactly where I'm stuck. I already have all the directories setup, but I can't get plex to read them, even with mount points.

@@shashankm8981 TrueNAS does not support Wi-Fi. You'll need some form of hardwired connection whether that's ethernet or something else.

Very good informational video. How did you get to compression ratio to 1 on the pool 1 ? I only get 16.63. The plex media dataset it's 1.0 compression ratio

cd to go into the directory and path he typed after ls - (and then the commands) to show all and list the group, owner, other permissions.

I have a question, I gave my NAS a fixed IP adress. When installing the plex media plugin do I need to change the setting from DHCP to NAT? Or can I leave it on DHCP?

I'm no unix wizard however; since the plugin is running in a "jail" (A sort of Unix kernel virtual machine), once the jail is up and running it will act as an independent entity on your network so just leave it on DHCP and if you want a static IP, just take give it a locked IP on your router. I don't lock mine and works fine :)

After I installed the Plex Plug-in, I get asked to sign in which open my account and there are no options to add my own media server. I can only access a media server that was shared with my account. I can't add a new one from my TrueNAS server. Any idea how to add one?

Hello! Plex supports very many media files! We have had users rip their home movies or download them too. Below is a list of supported media formats that Plex will accept! support.plex.tv/articles/203824396-what-media-formats-are-supported/

As of May 2024 TrueNAS core does not support the Plex plugin.

This older version seems more simple than the current Scale version. The newer version is a mess. No working defaults just errors like: "[EFAULT] Failed to apply ACLs to the following paths: 1) /mnt/z3/z3/movies: [EPERM] Filesystem permissions on path /mnt/z3/z3 prevent access for user "apps" to the path /mnt/z3/z3/movies. This may be fixed by granting the aforementioned user execute permissions on the path: /mnt/z3/z3.

Everything works until 6:25, my media folder is empty. I am able to see the files on another windows computer via adding it as a network drive but can't get plex itself to see the subfolders. Anyone know what the issue can be?

The /media folder is not visible on the Add Folder when adding library to Plex. It is when doing the mapping step, but no longer visible during the actual Plex library set up. Any idea why?

@AVSCDvideoproduction I had to change the permissions on the data set to be open so that plex could see the files. I think there is a way to allow plex to see the files in the dataset by making plex a user that has access to the dataset but I couldn't figure it out.

The Plex server runs under the user "plex", you have to get the id of this user. In the shell/console of the server type "id plex" write down the number, then add a user ACL (read only) for this user number to the samba share. Now you can choose the media folder in the plex configuration.

Can anyone help? I've had Plex for a while and when I go to log onto Plex, it just immediately takes me to the dashboard and will not let me configure the server.

i don't know if you can help me, but as i'm following along with your video and what is posted on the truenas documentation hub (getting started/applications section), i get the below failure message when trying to install the plex plugin. i changed none of the defaults. i'm not sure what to do. the google searches i've done aren't helpful, especially when i find someone else had the same issue almost 2 years ago and no one replied to help them fix the issue. Install Error: plex had a failure Exception: RuntimeError Message: pkg error: - pkg-static: Repository iocage-plugins cannot be opened. 'pkg update' required pkg-static: No packages available to install matching 'pkg' have been found in the repositories Please check your network Partial plugin destroyed

Man im confused and google isnt doing much for that.. I got a smb share dataset set up so i can access on my windows computers.. I want to uuse the media from that dataset in plex but the folder isnt showing in the plex app. If your able to shed some light i would greatly appreciate it

I have the same Problem, my folders in the media folder are not showing up. I can see them in the jail shell,so they are mountet, but not in the frontend.

I think you have a problem related user rights. When you copy files from a windows computer to a smb share thats mounted to your plex server, the plex server dont have correct rights to the files. Im having the same issue.

For anyone stuck with this issue, you must create a user AND group with UID/GID 972. They can have any name, but the clearest will be to name them "plex". The user can be a non-sudo, nologin, no password user. After creating the plex user/group (YOU MUST USE UID 972 and GID 972), update the ACLs on your media dataset/folders/shares to allow access to the plex user/group. Reboot your plex jail and/or server for good measure. Now the media server should be able to read all of your media files and the folder(s) will no longer be greyed out.

its a permissions issue. basically the plex jail does not have access to your source "folder"....I had your exact issue. in plex i couldn't select the media folder to add to library

It seems that Plex on truenas and freenas supports only 1 mountpoint. I have 2 datasets of media, each on different vdevs. I tried defining 2 mountpoints, but discovered that it only made the 2nd mountpoint available. Is there any plans for support of multiple mountpoints for datasets on different vdevs? Thanks

i have no problem with using 3 mountpoint on plex server. Are you sure you set them right? did you use ACL to give rights to plex for your datasets?

Definitely no. I am on TrueNAS Core (latest release) and have 4 mount points across various vdevs. One of the mount points is actually just a mountpoint itself hooked to an external JBOD.

I've followed the instructions in the video but after logging into my plex account i am not getting the "wizard" setup, just a normal client like login. And if i want to "add media" it asks me to install a server. Happens every time, tried 4 times now.

For the setup page (32400/web/index.html#!/setup/), after hitting it via ip, I get 'not authorized'. I'm on the same subnet and everything.
