I think as it goes on and we learn more about the individual audience members, perhaps eventually we are able to recognize the individual laugh styles and it will add a layer of nuance to the intimacy of the show. A large audience is great for a lively "showtime" atmosphere, but we lose the "body language" type subtleties that familiar individual responses could provide.
