Жыл бұрынMy name is Carson Sleep, I’m 23 years old and am a 6th generation rancher on the Sleep Ranch.
Our ranch is located in the Northern Black Hills on the South Dakota/ Wyoming border where my family settled and started ranching in 1883.
I work alongside my parents, Jeff and Jodi, our ranch hand, Jaques, and my wife, Damaris who also works as a nurse in town. We have friends and family who come along very frequently as well!
We run a cow/calf operation where we summer our cattle on the Black Hills National Forest and winter them in the foothills of the Black Hills. We also have a backgrounding feedlot, and grow alfalfa and grass hay.

Great video, hope you can get all of that cut hay in, by the time it rains. Sorry to hear about Trump. Hope they can remove the tumor to help it from spreading. I remember that the vet said, they may have to remove the infected eye. Thistles are the worst. We have them here in Northwest Indiana.

I'm in the same boat with the horse but one of mine has cancer. Growth around the eyes and in the mouth . It will be a sad day when she answers the final bell,but that's part of life. You do a good job with life. Keep it going.

Weeds used to be controlled by fire but we all saw what happened to the Hammond family for setting a defensive back fire....graze it, log it or watch it burn....spraying herbicide is the only thing the private land owner has left.

I just love watching you do whatever you do. My uncles farmed and ranched up in the hills north of the Tualatin Valley in Oregon. What you are doing was very much like what they did, except you use more current methods and equipment, of course.

Hey Carson, I really hope your horse is going to be ok, it's sad, a good horse is hard to lose and hard to replace. Hay with a grain attached to it the cows always eat well, your third crop looks good, the days are getting shorter so it's getting harder to make dry hay. Stay safe!

I have sprayed on farms and ranches for a lot of years and l would sure recommend wearing some rubber gloves when spraying . I was bulletproof when l was younger but the older l get the more cautious l get ,which is probably ass backwards . Just a suggestion, enjoy your videos !

I have a sneaken suspicion the heavy population of weeds this year is by design. Here in Norther New Mexico, weeds exploded this year. I am hearing it all over the country. I am wondering if cloud seeding is turning into weed seeding? It is just so odd how everything bad is exploding this year over other years. If weeds overtake grazing pastors, then meat prices go up, feed goes up, everything is out of whack.

Sorry to hear about that Trump. We had a horse that had cancer he had it in his man parts it sucked cuz he was a good boy. But I was curious why don't you carry a gun in the mountains Carson aren't you afraid of bears and mountain lions I've been chased before it sucks. But I hope you and Damaris and the baby are doing good can't wait to see the little of the farm and the cattle are all good take care God bless

when it's obvious it usually costs a lot more to fix, I made two sheilds that pin in to keep a lot of that crap from collecting in the corners, they snap out real easy

Yeah, the designers of our much needed and heavily used equipment should be required to go out IN THE FIELD and use it in all kinds of weather, terrain and crop types. THEN they might design stuff that works well without causing time consuming stops and fire dangers etc! But then, that would be common sense and we all know how rare THAT is anymore. LOL! Will be thinking good thoughts about sweet Trump. I had a palomino mare that had one eye removed due to cancer. The owner wanted me to work with her and try to get her to be useable again. She did pretty well but always had an issue with being spooky. I guess I'd be spooky too if I had one whole side of my vision gone but that old mare still would try her best to work cows. Trump boy, we're wishing you the best!

It is to bad you couldnt get someone to harvest st. John's Wort. It is good medicine for skin etc. You should check into it. Cancer is a terrible disease in horses I pray for him.

Carson I just read a lengthy article about cattle theift in Campbell County South Dakota. A rancher had 13 pairs stolen. I know most ranches are huge so it would be just luck if the thieves were caught in the act. I feel bad for the ranchers that have cattle stolen. Just throwing out a number but I would think 13 pair would bring around 30,000 dollars and that is a huge loss. Thirty thousand could buy a lot . Anyway I hope your family doesn't loose any to cattle thieves. My thoughts on punishment for thieves is Hang em High. That may not be the right thing to do but it would make a person think about it twice before he went down that thievery road.

It's true that goats will eat weeds as they will eat most anything if they get hungry enough. They don't like Canada thistle because of the spines and they don't like St John's Wort because it is not very palatable. They will eventually eat St John's Wort but it causes liver damage.

Goats eat anything and will eat the grass which is ok. You would need to have a herder with them 24/7 you have big cats and coyotes all over that area. The St John's is poisonous if that was all they ate. The toxin is a quinone called hypericin and it causes liver and kidney failure also sensitivity to sunlight. Better to kill off the St John's than have animals eat it.

Don't goats eat thistle? Bring some in and keep the chemicals out of the ecosystem. Goats are great since they are not fond of grass and love weeds and thicker brush and their hooves turn over the soil. If you are one of those who believe bad things about goats then I have to wonder why you have had both cattle and sheep. Poor horse should have his name corrected to conman.
