To be clear, I don't particularly like Zuckerberg. But I think you've got to admit that it is a rare occasion when the owner of a mega-corporation clearly and directly admits to his fuck-ups. Other things being equal, they are usually more inclined to the "It wasn't me, I had nothing to do with it." mantra.
@jgt2598
@jgt2598 6 жыл бұрын
It is a rare occasion. Unfortunately it's still an unheard of occasion when the owner of a megacorp faces financial hardship for their fuckups (you know, 'capitalism', rewards for success, financial punishment for failure), in this case he was apologizing to the tune of $10,000,000/minute.
@TinyShaman
@TinyShaman 6 жыл бұрын
*Jordan Thomas* I understand what you mean. Seems really unfair. But holding big corporations responsible for the wrongs they do is awfully hard in practice. Especially with the web-based companies. There is no feasible way to keep them tied to a particular country, so they have a tendency to "flee", tax-, capital-, or workforce-wise to places which offer more favourable conditions. The only reason Facebook, Google and many others, are currently based in the USA, is that it gives them certain advantages: stability, pool of qualified workforce, rich market and investment opportunities, etc. If it were to change, and, say, North Korea somehow managed to guarantee large investments, or Russia could make it so that FSB guys can't come to a company's office and inform everyone that it is their business now, these high-tech giants would be there in a blink of an eye. So, I guess you might even admire those CEOs who can at least afford honesty.
@jgt2598
@jgt2598 6 жыл бұрын
*TinyShaman* If only "fairness" were the biggest problem with this system. The real problem, of course, is that this total detachment in the upper echelons between success and reward - and failure and punishment - disincentivizes working towards the good of the company or economy. It results in an aristocratic upper class thats interaction with the economy is parasitic rather than symbiotic. Executives raise their own salaries at the expense of not only their employees, but their companies, and the economy as a whole. As an ever larger percentage of a society's wealth concentrates at the top, so to does the associated political power, simultaneously impoverishing and disenfranchising the majority. Obviously, there are only two long-term outcomes of this, as has happened time and again throughout human history: reform or collapse. As to the oligarchy's ever present threats of "if you think about touching our illegitimate power we'll flee and take all the money with us" and "if you don't bail us out with tax dollars when we fuck up we'll let the economy implode"...brinkmanship. For starters executives are human, they have families, social ties, cultural sensibilities, very few will leave everything they know just because they're only allowed to make *most* of the money instead of *all* the money. And the part about "taking the money" is almost complete bluff, nation-states have sovereign authority over what crosses their borders, so if the government doesn't let them take their money (or send their money/corporation) somewhere else...they can't do it legally, and again, not many would risk breaking the law just so they can make majorly obscene money instead of somewhat obscene amounts of money. In that case, physically leaving would be their only recourse, and we're back to bluff one, barring full on Communism, most won't. Now I'm not saying none would, or that they wouldn't dig for every loophole, but whenever nation-states have implemented regulations the oligarchy doesn't like (including, for example, the "New Deal"), whenever the government has called the oligarchy's bluff, they mostly folded. And considering our current path leads to collapse anyway, I'm willing to take the chance and call their bluff.

To be clear in the meeting he did say they took efforts to stop normal cyber attacks toward the political elections. They didn't anticipate for this scale and type of attack to be the way it was. Any programmer knows you can't perceive exactly how everyone will use your program. All you can do is fix problems as they arise. This is true for many things. There are some seriously creative people in the world and no one can possibly predict exactly how an when someone will figure out a way to exploit it.

Lobbyists are not the issue here. A lobbyist simply informs politicians about a particular issue and tries to sway them to their side. It's impossible for a politician to be knowledgeable about every issue that comes across their desk, that's where lobbyists come in. The real reason giant corporations have such sway over politicians is because of the millions of dollars of campaign contributions they make.

He probably only cares because he doesn't want to deal with the legal issues of a divorce yet again, and he also probably doesn't want to get dragged like a white toddler on a leash at Disneyland by the media and comedy shows like this if there was a divorce. He probably also doesn't want his youngest son Barron to get negatively affected by a divorce. Barron is the only member of the Trump family that's completely innocent in everything that's happened since June 16th, 2015, I would feel horrible for him if a divorce really went through, even though it seems all but inevitable at this point. Not Possible. The only way you see ads is if you show certain interest in somethings. for ex- if you like a dog page then you might get ads from people selling dog related products. Another way you get ads is that if you visit a website that has installed Facebook Pixels in it. That way Facebook identifies that you are a user and then show the ads of that particular brand on your news feed and either way, Facebook does not share any data with anyone.

Well, arguably, who do you want to head your country, business or organisation, a cheater or one that can be cheated? Seriously, Clinton would have a non-inspiring and boring, but reasonably competent president, while there was ample, more than ample, evidence what kind of president Trump would be, even with the suppressed stories.

Which helped him get elected. This alleged story, the Stormy Daniel one, and likely many more, were actively suppressed. But it shouldn't matter, Trump was a known known. Many presidential candidates you would have no idea how they would actually perform as a president, practically coming from the unknown. Not Trump. Not Hillary Clinton either, for that matter.
