The premise of the State of the Union is a report to congress on the state of the Union. A factual report on it's economic performance and outlook. In that view, this report was a sales pitch not a State of the Union report. A lot of his "facts" were not true and were often contradicted by his own administrations policies.

Heck I can tell you right now that this economy under Trump is not the best it's ever been. Heck the economic growth in Obama's last 3 years were better than that in all of Trump's term. The Trump's tax cuts were what the 8th largest? His 100 miles of border wall is 1 mile.

But the average wage or overall amount gained by middle to lower class hasn't moved, so the entire statistic of this is actually wildly inaccurate because more people have needed to work 2 or even 3 jobs to keep up with expenses. Thus skewing the result of a lower unemployment rate. More people have stayed poor in the past few years than in the years prior, andd that's not something I would cheer for. The rich don't need to get richer when the people at the bottom can't even keep up with all the expenses being thrown at them.

For example in the Netherlands the middle class household of 2.2 persons gets an income of just 65.000 Euro's. What do you expect ones America becomes a welfare state. Guess what, middle incomes have to pay the price because only millionaires and billionaires can't pay the price tag.

Under Obama, 20 million more Americans were insured, deficit was cut by over 800 billion dollars, exports were up by 28%, corporate profits were up 144%, stock market nearly tripled under Obama, middle-class tax cuts were preserved, American Auto industry was saved, Wall Street reform was enacted, oil & natural gas production was in all at an all-time high, solar & wind power at an all-time high, Reliance on foreign oil at a 40-year low, graduation rates hit an all-time high under Obama, No Child Left Behind replaced, Pell Grants doubled, new Consumer Financial Protection Bureau was created, new mortgage refinance program was created, new patient billing rights, newly Protected Lands & Waters Bill, new limits on carbon pollution, just to name a few. ;)Obama steered the country out of the deepest recession since the last depression in the 1930's. His economic policies saved worldwide economies from going under, saved the auto & banking industries, put the skids on job losses and took joblessness from 10.5% in 2009 to 4.6% when he left office, freed the U.S. from foreign oil dependency. Trump was very lucky to inherit Obama's economy.

A president effects taxes and regulation. I don’t find Trump’s achievements impressive. Remember that when was campaigning he said the economy was fake and real unemployment was 30%. The day he gets elected he says the economy is great and it is booming. Central bank’s monetary policy has a greater impact on the health of our economy than what the president does.

(i emphasize everybody as the poor are found within this group) if good things happen like more babies getting proper prenatal care and proper developmental care that benefits everybody. just because the left claims to be for the poor does not mean that they are virtuous angels who simply love to grant wishes and give out money.

President's have always played fast and loose with reality when it comes to how they describe the state of the U.S. economy. The current administration is only the latest group whose decisions have weakened not strengthened the stability of our economy and, by extension, our society. ideological bias (or blindness) is a major part of the problem. Whether there is a Republican or a Democrat in the White House this problem exists. Each party relies on experts trained in economics that adhere to macroeconomic theories and policies that have proven ineffective at preventing either recessions or inflation. Neither demand management nor supply-side economic policies nor money, interest and credit supply policies have worked. The nation has experienced a dozen recessionary downturns -- some more serious than others -- just since the end of the Second World War. We are, I believe, headed for another downturn that will look far more like 1932 than even 2008. Back in 2014 I gave a talk at the Henry George birthplace in Philadelphia describing the long series of bad policy decisions and changes in law that doomed our nation to ever-deeper cycles of boom and bust. The causes of these cyclical crises have always been there because powerful vested interests have made sure that a redistribution of income and wealth from producers to non-producing monopolistic and rent-seeking interests have been protected. Most of our elected representatives have participated in this game. Economic cycles are a particular outcome of a tax system that rewards speculation and passive investment over income earned producing goods and providing services. A reasonably progressive individual income tax and a high tax on inheritance and estates served to mitigate the worst effects. The delicate balance began to unravel beginning in the 1970s as the nation tried to respond to the rapid increase in the price of fossil fuels. Wage and price controls did not work. Financial deregulation began with changes in law permitting the first money market mutual funds, funds that eventually pulled billions of dollars from the nation's thrifts and causing the S&L Crisis of the late 1980s. Reagan era policies accelerated the problems by combining tax reductions with increased military spending. The era of perpetual deficit spending and climbing national debt was underway. The Clinton administration opened the gate to the "too big to fail" problem of banking with repeal of Glass-Steagal. One bad piece of legislation after another followed in administration after administration. The current administration has sealed our fate. No one is even asking where the funds will come from to service $30 trillion public debt

I love all the comments here, they're absolute proof Americans are gonna get what's coming to them. I'm an American and even I can see through all the BS. He's optimistic as hell and all the sheeple go, "Trump is awesome, he's the next best thing since bread and butter," not looking into financial statements and disclosures, PMI numbers, GDP and the Fed's budget deficit, shadowstats, etc. Coming from someone working in the financial sector, it's amazing how US has lasted this long. Don't blame Trump when SHTF, blame yourselves.
