That being said, I want to express how impressive & inspirational these school students organising the #NeverAgain Movement are. They're far wiser & way more intelligent & eloquent than the vast majority of adults, especially NRA endorsed politicians (who demonstrably love their 'gun money' more than their constituents & children). The kids are AMAZING though in their handling of it aren't they! I want to know how they got to where they are? Who trained them/raised them to be so strong & courageous & mature? Is the school they go to special in some way? They've said it prepped them as well as was possible. Their parents obviously get a lot of credit too, but all round I'm just blown away by how amazing these kids are! I would never have the control or tact to do what they're doing, even as an adult!
@Audiodump
@Audiodump 6 жыл бұрын
They're doing it because they have no other recourse. Normally the victims aren't so vocal about gun control protests so they can be ignored with the standard "Its terrible, thoughts and prayers" lines and then get back to attacking the other side with slippery slope arguments and exaggerated rhetoric. But now the victims are protesting and the people fighting so hard to not change anything don't really have a logical leg to stand on, so the discourse immediately becomes adhom attacks.

Why is it, that when new technologies, concepts and ideas come out, which can be used to turn a profit, companies immediately want to copy and implement them into their systems to make their product better. Yet when some countries use a certain political system and laws, which have proven to work for 50+ years, many countries hesitate, deny and go the opposite way, which we know makes matters worse. For example: When Apple comes up with a new product, they will patent the hell out of it, because Microsoft and Google will for sure copy their idea, since they know it will make their product better. If Switzerland, Norway, Sweden or Finland uses a system which has proven to lower crime rate, prolong life expectancy, good health care, good education, then why not implement that exact system? Why are politicians so stubborn when in comes to copying political systems from other countries? It's not like you can be too proud to copy another country when you have hit rock bottom already and have been struggling for decades. Seriously, we're talking about human lives here. There should be no place for pride and stubbornness in situations like these.

Switzerland has the "right to acquire, possess and carry arms".
@Hobbitstomper
@Hobbitstomper 6 жыл бұрын
Wrong! You do NOT have the rights to carry arms, that is strictly banned. I am from Switzerland and there is so much misinformation created by american gun advocates, it's unreal. The amount of incorrect memes showing swiss people walking around with guns, saying everyone owns a gun, is just completely wrong. The per capita of gun ownership in switzerland is very high due to our mandatory army service for any man between 18-34. After an initial 6 months of military training, you are being given a rifle which you can take home or leave at the nearest army barracks. The army used to give live ammo as well, however if the ammo would be opened up, you would be facing court martial. About 17 years ago after a shooting, they stopped handing out live ammo. You get to keep your rifle without ammo, or keep your rifle at the nearest army barracks for save keeping, because once a year, you have to do a few weeks of mandatory military service until the age of 34, along with yearly shooting practice on a shooting range. Since the last mass shooting in 2001 in Switzerland, almost 90% of all soldiers decided to leave their rifle at the nearest barracks. When asked, soldiers said they are not interested in owning a weapon, mainly because they were trained to use a weapon in combat and understand the consequences of what kind of damage a weapon can do. Anyone in Switzerland who has been convicted of a crime, is struggling with addiction, or has a 'violent or dangerous attitude, is banned from buying a gun. All gun owners must be able to pass a test on a shooting range before they are given a licence. Those who do own a gun are banned from carrying it around - concealed-carry permits are not a thing, unless you're a security worker or a police officer. Hunters and sports shooters can only carry their guns between home and the range. Here are 2 articles that show what we do different: www.ladbible.com/community/interesting-politics-switzerland-owns-tons-of-guns-so-why-doesnt-it-have-mass-shootings-20180226 uk.businessinsider.com/does-switzerland-give-every-citizen-a-gun-2018-2

Although, it would've been interesting to see how the media would've treated any Republican other than Trump against Hillary. Hillary was the second most hated candidate in history (just 1% below Trump), and the polls I saw didn't even mention who the 3rd most hated candidate was, leading me to believe that Trump and Hillary were way ahead of everyone (and deservedly so). The RCP averages showed Kasich up by 7% over Hillary and Rubio up over 4% over Hillary nation-wide. Without Trump, I think Cruz would've been the nominee. He would've lost, but Hillary (like Trump is/will be) would've been exposed and only been a one term president, and you'd literally have to be mentally challenged to vote her again, just like you'll have to be mentally challenged to vote for Trump again.

I think part of the stupidity of arming teachers is that, often times, the shooter is a student or former student. Are we really going to ask teachers to kill someone they see every day? Or they taught and tried to nurture for four years? There are police officers and military personnel who feel a lot of trauma after they first kill a stranger. Can anyone expect a teacher to shoot at a child they once viewed as their own? A lot of teachers are now telling students "I'd take a bullet for you." What if that kid they told that to becomes a shooter? Will the teacher, or any person, not blink once before killing someone they would die for?

That's when they told her that they'd already decided: In the event of a shooter, they would carry her out and protect her. She cried. I'm feeling a little soggy again just repeating it. I feel it would first be wise to point out I did a research paper on gun control. I follow the news. I can talk about this issue in a mature manner. Unlike some people who I won't mention (see above). My father teaches middle school. I am in high school. We have discussed this issue at length, and both agree that we would be significantly more uncomfortable in school if anyone present was armed. There should be no weapons in schools. One of my father's colleges is a volunteer sheriff, and has similarly expressed his opinion that arming teachers is illogical, and frankly terrifying. Thank you for your time and consideration of my opinion.

@@batintheattic7293 As an Aussie who has never fired a gun or owned one, our country is SAFE. I've never felt I needed a gun to protect myself. I don't need one to overthrow the government one day just in case! Our farmers and hunters can have guns with a licence. Shooters still have rifle shooting clubs. We have some pretty basic rules on these dangerous things.

Sadly, I was not alive during the Kennedy years. I became aware of the job title of "President" during the Reagan years. I liked and disliked some of them on policy issues ever since POTUS #40. But from POTUS #40 to POTUS #44, I have ALWAYS liked these public servants as decent human beings. Or at least liked them enough as convincingly responsible or intelligent adults. I just can't say the same for POTUS #45. Every morning, I wake up with the dreaded questions: "Oh God, what did he tweet today? I hope we are not in open war with any country today... And I wonder how far the GOP bent over backward today..." I was a registered Republican from 2000 to 2016, then I just unregistered myself after the November election., because it seems like the Party of Lincoln suddenly lost its spine or its common sense. I miss the good old days when Nazis and White Supremacists were considered to be less than dirt in our society. I miss the good old days when the NRA was simply an organization that offered gun safety classes. I miss the good old days when crazy TV personalities were just that: Crazy TV personalities. I miss the good old days.
