He falsified business records, they say, in order to hide this damaging fact and therefore hiding it from people about to vote. He knew he couldn’t lose even 5% without losing the whole election. We need to remember, the blind fanaticism of his followers hadn’t wholly kicked in and many Christians were still ready to be appalled by such adulterous and supposedly seedy behaviour by a person wanting to run the country.
