I'm of the thought that he's just unable to follow the trial since it requires paying attention and understanding what's going on without any drama or loud noises. Then he goes out of the court and suddenly he's back in his element, frantically lying to suckers through mass media. It's the same as a kid falling asleep in class but then becoming alert if you hand them a video game.

The DOD report of Whitehouse prescriptions during the trump administration is unbelievable. Adderall, provigil, oxycodone, morphine, FENTANYL, KETAMINE. As a former drug user I could doze off then snap right back into action like nothing happened if I was awakened. He could be dozing off from his pain meds and easily snap back. I've done it.

No, the reason he's sleepy in court is because he stays up all night. When he talks outside the court room, he seems sleepy and stooped more than normal. The bags under his eyes are ever bigger than normal. He probably only gets a couple of hours of sleep before court.

I think it's much simpler. Talking and the attention of others have aways always been his stimulants. The fact that no-one is listening to him in court means he just switches off. When he's in front of reporters, people are paying attention and he gets fired up again.

I disagree with David. I've taken diazepam in the past for a medical issue and it really only makes you drowsy for a few hours. I think if he took a benzodiazepan in the morning and his drug of choice based on white house logs, Provigil right at the afternoon bathroom break or whatever, he'd be as we've seen.

I think that Trump is sleep-deprived, and sitting in court, unable to talk or get suck-up juice from his staff or Fox or OAN, he nods off. I had a friend who was a bulky guy who claimed to need little sleep at night. He was always on the go. One night I visited him alone at his house and as he was talking to me, he fell asleep. After ten minutes or so, he woke up and picked up where he left off.

The drug he’s on is called narcissism. He’s mostly bored in court because the attention is not focused on him. As soon as he goes in front of the cameras, it’s like a shot of adrenaline he’s been waiting for all day. Finally, the attention is back on him. This theory also explains why on a FEW occasions in court he’s paying attention… when the testimony is focused on him specifically.

he may be on pain killers, but he's up all night stewing in his palace, so he's likely getting caught up... it's normal and common for old timers, like him, to drift off, while seated, anytime...After meals, or anytime in front of a TV, after 9 pm, are the most common times. He's clearly more vigorous after his naps!

My simple take on why he's asleep is that he's 77 with or without cognitive decline, but especially with. Why is he alert when he walks outside? Simply, he's charged when he has attention and he is in his element when people are paying attention. To make a crude simile; he's like a solar powered lamp. Literally when he's around people making the sunlight of their attention beam on him he's lit up. If we remove that light he powers down, his source of energy gone. I think it's that simple.

That is an interesting idea, that somebody could be intentionally sedating him, they would explain the coldness of the courtroom as well. It would be in his own lawyers best interest for him to stop talking and stop it basically being a piss baby the entire trial, and it's in the courts interest if they think it would be to politically radioactive to give Trump consequences when you could just give him a doggie Downer for the ride.

I think he is worried and probably not sleeping at night. Up until now, he hasn't had a criminal trial. They have all been civil. He only risked money in those cases. He has had big money woes in the past and has weathered them, so money woes don't worry him. Jail is something new to him and it probably scares him.

He likely hits the bathroom before coming out. Noel Casler(worked on the Apprentice w/him)has verified the "uplifting" info multiple times. According to Noel he has been an addict for decades. It's quite logical that he's not using during the day for court or possibly mild downer(he has access to almost all drugs good or bad)and then using the bathroom to get a mild hit on breaks

Trump was infamous while president to have no patience to follow briefings or written materials, there was concern among staff at the lack of attention span, patience and whether there was comprehension. He may not be able to attend to the proceedings and just shuts down involuntarily. GOP needs an alternative pronto, this has gone way too far. He is unable to lead.

I think a lot of it has to do with that he is a nearly 80 year old man. People at that age often doze off and then wake up with some energy. Plus, he doesn't appear to me to be "hopped up" in those post-court appearances. He seems a little flat, even when he is "outraged."
