Great build! Just about to start building mine. I will not go for all the extras at this time, but I have ordered a second one and some of the extras. Will watch this video many times more during the build of my STRV 103's. Fun fact...I have driven a couple of 103's during my in the -80's mandatory military service. It was a fun piece of machinery! You have a T-handle for driving and by rotating the hand grips forward/backwards you will elevate or tilt down the whole tank! Takes some getting used to...

Thanks Ville! Good luck with your builds and if there are anything unclear in the video, don't hesitate to ask and I will try to answer. The 103 is an awesome tank, I didn't have the privilege to drive it during my military service but I saw one at a field repair workshop and I have seen one driving at Arsenalen a couple of years ago.

Excellent work ! I built one and didn't realise that the containers on the top were machine guns ! ( modern pictorial instructions don't give you information about what the parts are in real life .) I like the way you masked the camo , I painted a CV90 splinter by hand using Tamiya thin tape , but it took a while ! Swedish splinter is my favourite > I also repainted my old Leopard tank , several aircraft and a 48" r/c patrol boat . Wales UK.

I didn't use any putty, if I remember correctly. The kit is a bit challenging even built out-of-the-box (no extras added or parts modified). For a beginner I would suggest to start with a modern Tamiya kit as a first build, the quality and fit is superb and the instructions are very good and easy to follow.

Hej igen, im working on the 7 periscopes. I managed to get a good blue effect on the glass with a blue sharpie. So how do you deal with the glass when you spray the cupola? When i see the photos it looks like you also painted the periscopes green before you put on the glass ? Can you please explain the process?
@KillBoxScalemodelling
@KillBoxScalemodelling 3 жыл бұрын
Hey, nice to hear about the progress of your build. I had to go back and look at the buildthread at ISM - and it seems that you have found it too! :D Ok, I'm not exaclty sure why I painted the periscopes green, but it makes sense to paint the fronts before putting in the glass; that makes it easier to mask the complete front of the periscope. If I remember correctly I used Micro Mask, but I had lot's of trouble to remove that after the paintjob was completed. Masking tape or Humbrol Maskol is probably better...

the set has special rubber things that are inserted into the rollers, they should set the model in motion that is, " working running tank". So, can it drive?
@KillBoxScalemodelling

No it cannot drive - the tracklinks are too delicate and the running gear (roadwheels, idler, sprocket) needs to be glued to hold together.

If I remember correctly the brass rings are decoration. This is the best picture I got of the assembled gun: www.flickr.com/photos/152211097@N08/36333620994/ Don't forget to attach the support for the barrel *before* you glue the muzzle-break in place - I did that mistake... :)

Thanks MountainElephant, if you are choosing between the PE sets (there are two) and the metal barrel I should recommend the barrel over the PE set. The PE-set is a great addition, but it's not essential. I actually didn't use all the PE parts and on a B-model there are a lot of PE that is not needed anyway (for example the flotation equipment). Best of luck with your build! I'm not an expert on the Strv 103 but don't hesitate to ask me questions if there are something in the video that you struggle with!

@@KillBoxScalemodelling Few more Questions :-) 1) I assume this is the standard mix for any paint ? I.e. for the black priming. 2) Also, I have seen other modellers do a white paint as highlight ontop of the primer before the final paint. What do you think about that technique ? 3) What is the final coat you put on (product). It looks pretty shiny but then in some pictures it looks better. I have been looking at the Tamiya TS80 clear flat spray. Its a can and not applied with airbrush.

@@hiortintexasracing 1) Primers does not need any thinner, if that is what you mean? I recommend using Badger Stynylrez primer. 2) Yes, I have seen that too, but I haven't tried that technique. 3) I used Alclad II Aqua Gloss for weathering and Microscale Micro Flat as the final flat coat. You can spray the final flat coat with a rattle-can I guess, some modellers prefer to do that instead of using an airbrush Are you going to make a sprinter cammo or will it be dark green ?

It took me nearly 3 months to build the Strv 103 and if I commit to a commission build like this I have to put one or two of my planned builds on hold. Also a thing that I do for fun on my spare time will become "work" that I have to do. I hope you understand. But if you really want a kit like this there are very good professional builder out there that can do stuff like this. After some quick googling I would guess that a commission build like this would cost something like 500-1000€, given the prices that they claim and the amount of work they put into their builds. But that is a just a guess from my side, so it could be totally wrong...
