This recipe uses essential oils for natural knee pain relief. We’re blending the essential oils into a base of pure aloe vera gel, which helps the oils absorb quickly. Aloe vera is one of my favorite carriers for fast absorption!
I’m making my knee pain relief gel in a 2 oz (60 ml) PET plastic flip-top bottle. PET is known as a non-reactive plastic that doesn't leach. In cases where glass isn't ideal, PET plastic is a good choice.
Here’s the recipe:
2 oz (56 gm) Aloe vera (Aloe barbadensis) (1:27)
3 drops Ginger (Zingiber officinale) (1:57)
3 drops Rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor) (2:23)
5 drops Peppermint (Mentha x piperita) (2:41)
3 drops Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia) (3:03)
These four essential oils are so helpful for knee pain! They have natural anti-inflammatory, analgesic, and circulatory properties that are so soothing.
At 3:35, you can see me shake a few drops of the knee pain relief gel into my palm. (PET plastic isn’t easy to squeeze, and shaking the bottle gives you just enough of the gel.)
I hope this knee pain gel brings you so much relief!

A few days ago I made a batch of this gel. Earlier today, I touched the top of the stove and burned the tip of my finger. Even for the pain for a small burn, this was as close to perfect for my finger. For about ten minutes I used a bag of frozen corn at first and my SO gave me the gel I made for him. The way it smelled got be past the pain and the aloe played a part. Still, I'll make another batch and keep it in the fridge for days like this. It is about the go to gel for any pain.

Hi Rita! We follow the safety information from “Essential Oil Safety, Second Edition” by Robert Tisserand and Rodney Young. They’ve compiled solid research and the most up-to-date resources on essential oil safety. According to their findings, essential oils including Rosemary ct. camphor (Salvia rosmarinus/Rosmarinus officinalis ct. camphor) would not raise blood pressure enough to be a concern. The Aromahead recipes we share on social media are very safe, and if you follow the recipes as given, the dilutions are low enough not to cause any significant reaction. There are no specific oils to avoid for high blood pressure as long as they’re used in moderate amounts. But of course, if you feel more comfortable, you can always choose to avoid Rosemary. Juniper Berry (Juniperus communis) would be a nice substitute if it makes you feel more comfortable. 🌹

Thank you for sharing your expertise, it's fantastic. I'd also like to ask a more general question. Is the quick absorption rate of Aloe is maintained if it's blended with another carrier e.g. Sweet Almond, or would blending it reduce the absorption rate?

In my experience this dilution nicely addresses pain without the extra need of additional essential oil. The aloe vera gel absorbs so quickly and this might play into how effective the blend is, Lyndee Allan.
