Montreal scouts did good job researching Juraj. He was playing with 16 year olds when he was 14, putting them all to shame. Then he went abroad to Austria, Czechia, then Finland. All the while playing with older guys and scoring 1,5 to 3 points per game. Started playing with men in finnish liiga at just 17. Bear in mind that liiga is very defensive, and 1 goal games are common. He got attention of Craig Ramsay with performances in Slovakia U18 on world champs and Hlinka-Gretzky cup. Got called up to Slovak national mens team to olympics. The rest is history. And he's got such addictive personality, Habs fans are gonna love him for sure. If this draft turned only 10% of slovaks into new Montreal fans, you gained about 500k supporters overnight. Cheers from Slovakia. Go Habs Go!

Slaf is ready for the NHL, and St-Louis is smart enough to play him on a top line. Just for comparison, Tomas Tatar played with the Slovak National team at the WC. He's an experienced NHLer who just came off a decent bottom 6 15-15-30 season. He was 3-3-6 in 8 games at the WC and was second scorer for Slovakia. Behind Slaf who was 3-6-9 in 8 games. Slaf is NHL ready, and he's gonna crack 20 goal, and prolly add 20-30 assists for around 50 points at the very least this year playing with Suzuki and Caufield. He's made to play with them and will make them better. He gives Suzuki another option, he'll get pucks out from the board to Caufield and him, create space for them, protect them because he knows he's a big guy and he's protective of his teammates. There will be growing pains, they're all 18 to 22 years old after all. But that's they beauty of it. We have an amazing first line in the making, and they're 18-22. Solid offensive core to start a rebuild. Not to mention how fucking hilarious it will be to see Caufield barely reach to his waist when they group hug after a goal.

I don't want them to trade Anderson personally. For years we've had no power forwards and now we have two; I don't see why we'd trade a big bodied 20 goal scorer who can also skate, hit and fight if need be. If a team wants to overpay for him then I'd consider it, but otherwise I still think he's a valuable player on this team.

Agreed. Being a great player doesn't mean that you can coach, Gretzky is a good example, but St-Louis is different. You don't need a super high IQ to understand this after seeing him behind the bench. He is made for this, been a dream of his for a long time. He retired 7 years ago so all these guys were old enough to see him play, they know who he is and that he has earned everyone's respect in the league. The guy is super charismatic. He will definitely help these guys reach their true potential. The time where everyone, myself included, thought that Montreal was not the best place for a player to improve, is behind us. Like you said, St-Louis will be the Habs savior.

KK can't develop he's trash. Caufield nothing will mess him up his shot is art his destiny is to score 50 goals per year maybe 60 one day and Slaf is a beast out of the box and is hungry to make that happen with Caufield. He's everything that line would actually need so yeah future is bright. Well to be more exact he's just everything and it's a little weird. Don't get your hopes too high for Dach though. It's nothing but a prayer right now. Romanov is a big lost no matter how you flip this. Next draft is full of good looking centers and rebuild isn't over. This trade could end up looking good or REALLY REAAAAALLY bad.
@truenorth2995
@truenorth2995 Жыл бұрын
Old management messed up KK's development, new management made sure that doesn't happen, with Caufield and Suzuki by moving Toffoli. Getting rid of the points hungry veteran on that line, was the best thing Hughes did to help the youngsters development. And i think that's exactly the situation Dach was in, by playing on the same line with Kane. Most of the time rookies or younger players, tend to look for the veteran on the ice instead of making the play themselves. " Exactly what Caufield was doing looking for Toffoli " Wich costs them in developing, not having a veteran to please on your line, takes that pressure and stress away and gives you more confidence in your own talent to flourish.

Wright will be a good player, but seems to have have been an early bloomer and has some attitude problem. I can deal with cocky, especially if you deliver. But you better fucking deliver. Otherwise, you don't even sound cocky, you sound entitled. Wright wasn't even the lead scorer of his own junior team and was out in the first round of the playoffs. Congrats on having one of the best GMs in the league. Yzerman and Sakic are in a league of their own atm imo, but Hugues has been amazing so far so I'm hopeful for a relatively quick rebuild in Montreal.

Kind of the same for me here. When Annik said there were some things behind the doors with Wright it confirmed my suspicion when I was watching the draft. I thought Wright must have messed up something off-ice really bad to have 3 teams pass on him, especially with habs seemingly still leaning towards picking him like a week ago. Considering that, I'm glad the habs didn't pick Wright and went with Juraj who seems to be a really down-to-earth and hard-working guy.

I'd like to add my 2 cents on Anderson. Perhaps he was not consistent last year, but he was the only one doing the hard lifting. Now with Slaf and Dach into the mix, he won't be alone anymore. If only we can gey rid of Drouin, Hoffman or Dadonov and get a more physical winger, MTL will be a heavy team next year. Once Guhle makes the team and if Xhekaj too, it's going to hurt to enter the MTL D zone.

Another great show Annik, Shayne and Drew! I think I can safely say, the HT crew, Habs fans, and myself, are all still buzzing from the draft. Just a few points I'd like to make...I believe the missed season due to Covid really hurt Wright, along with his decision not to play overseas to continue his development. He's just a kid, who was probably convinced Mtl was going to pick him and he gets blindsided on the biggest day of his young career. But I do agree that there seems to be a bit of a maturity issue as Slaf seems to respond to difficult questions in a more thoughtful way. I am quite satisfied by the rest of Mtl's picks...interesting to hear the post-draft comments by Bobrov/Lapointe. But still disappointed in the lack of home grown quality selections. I'm really curious who the new D-man coach will be (Ulf Samuelsson, Phil Housley, Andrei Markov?...out of box choices Dan Boyle, Ray Bourque, dare I say Zdeno Chara?) Predictions: Daniel Doré will soon be added to the scouting staff in an important role. And I wonder if Mtl doesn't reach out to Craig Ramsey to see if he would like to join in a Consultant role to help assist a young coaching staff, and help Slaf and Mesar. Interesting week ahead! I honestly don't think the best option for Slaf is on the same line as Cole necessarily. Though big, he's not a linemate protector as much as a go to scoring option who still needs to improve on his passing when confronted with a strong checking presence. So if on the same line, it's more to keep the d guessing as to who is the go to. if we're looking for a line construction where that other wing on Cole's line is a space maker, switching either Anderson or Cole himself over so they can partner together might be the better option for that. He's a better passer and is more experienced using his size that way and can complement the scoring naturally enough that he also can make those dmen second guess what the move is. That leaves; at least in the early years; Slaf time to learn to manage NHL level checking on smaller ice with a talented centre (Dach?) and someone grinding the puck out of the corner and screening the net (Galley?) for a potent 2nd line.

Wright is the next iteration of Jack Eichel, without the skill or skating. The guy seems like an entitled brat who expects to have things handed to him as opposed to working for them. As a Sabres fan, you guys dodged a bullett. That type of culture seeps into everything and destroys the joy that other young players feel while establishing themselves as part of the team. It would always be about Shane, and is Shane happy? Forget what everyone else wants or feels. Nice move getting Slaf!

Petteri Nurmi, drafted at 191, is a finnish solid D-man. He´s overager because he´s born in january 2002. He´s a bit of a late bloomer, but he played the whole last season in HPK in Liiga. He´ll probably play for Team Finland in World Juniors in august. Not at all a flashy offensive minded D-man as Lane Hutson but a smart and calm more defending D-man who has a good positioning and ability to give those easy short passes. Quite low ceiling but very high floor.
