Holy crap, I never knew there was a sequel!!! I used to play the original to death on the Sega Genesis in the early 90s :)

I was playing this Arcade in my hometown for years. Im Spanish, my hometown is called "Alcalá de Guadaíra" in Seville. I spent hundreds of "pesetas" (old spanish coin before €uro) in this arcade with my friend. I was twelve and we used to go to the "Arcade Saloon" just to play Truxton 2. We never could finish it. After years trying every day. And now i can understand it. We NEVER used green weapon. Only Blue and eventually Red for some parts. But mainly Blue. I can't understand why we never tried. Not a single time. We just never figured it out, we children. I think its impossible to finish the game with the Blue weapon. We spent so many years trying.....

Even in Japan, this game is considered insane and is played by a very limited number of enthusiasts.

That explains a lot, among which how humanly unthinkable it is to boast such sensory reflexes. A human is a human, Japanese or otherwise, and even the good average cannot come close to some of these sections. This counts among the few titles where 10,000 or 20,000 hours of training over years of practice won't matter, there will be a barrier for most of us "normal" beings. There are limits, a cap to what one can accomplish in an exceptionally, ludicrously demanding psycho-visual effort, no matter how long and hard one trains his mind to it. This is borderline insanity, I mean it.

I couldn't go forth beyond stage 4 boss. I used to be a good shoot'em up player but the difficulty was really crazy.

I beaten both loops without dying it took about two years of practice but it's been done what a ride this game is vicious to newcomers

I didn't know they made Truxton 2, this game is awesome and man are you ever good. I would have liked to see this game on Sega Genesis.

+Chris Morris On Saturn this would have been a perfect port like Batsugun was. On Genesis this would have been a mess, even the first Tatsujin was not so well translated (graphically wise at least). Actually this was available on an obscur home console in Japan, that was basically a home computer turned into a console. But they're almost impossible to find now, even i you manage to find one this will cost you a gigantic amouth of money.

Your comment transported me back to when I was a kid playing Rtype Leo in the arcades in London, same as you I put loads of credits on it. its just great how now we can play every one of those shooters on Mame we spent all our pocket money on. I have all the shooters in my favourites folder in Mame. Its great. Thanks for your comment

Strangely, for some unknown reasons, catholic priests in my parish, love this game as well as Truxton 1. And even excel in both games! And even stranger, they strongly refuse to play other games, be it video or non video except Truxton 1 & 2. The reason as to why still remains a mystery to this day. WHY TRUXTON?????

Toaplan made incredible shmups :) I don't think this ever came to any of the more mainstream consoles of the time, but there's an awesome home version of Truxton 2 on the FM Town Marty and some vidoes on youtube if anyone wants to check it out. it's virtually arcade perfect. Unfortunately I think it never saw release outside of the Marty in Japan.

I'm sure Marc's aware of it, but since it was only available in the arcade, the FM Towns Marty, and MAME (Marc doesn't like emulators), he probably hasn't played it.

It's a shame that Toaplan couldn't last its legacy after making more great games like this one. Thankfully we have Donpachi series, though!

I watch the hole game of this video and I thought you will fight at the end with Doguvara the last warship from Truxton I remember that game because I played it on Sega Genesis. I also remeber at the end Doguvara said: "...Next time... you may go"

Can't figure out how it is humanly possible to win when I play. Can't figure out how this is humanly possible to win when seeing this either. I mean schmups with darn CHECKPOINTS ffs, on top of being super hardcore, borderline crazy difficult ? Raiden II & DX seem like a damn walk in the park in comparison. Boss I is all of the stages from so many other schmups combined in itself. And this is, Boss, One. Level 1. Entry level. This game counts among the few implacable, sadistic coin sinks that will flush both your morale and self-estime as a player down the toilet litterally in minutes. Digital equivalent of self-whiping, really. Edit : managed to kill him twice out of 10 attempts without using bombs by methodically approaching his modules one element at a time in a strategic order. That was with a savestate at the beginning. Still can't imagine beating this with a checkpoint bringing me back every time. No way. Edit 2 : 3 years later, I still believe every word I said after giving it a few tries :D Happy new year everyone xD

My guess is that since this is arcade only, the only way to play it now is through an emulator and he only does physical games.

This one always had sound but the latest version of MAME has sound for Batsugun, V-V, and Dogyuun.

He plays very good. That's too much more enemies and enemy fire than Truxton 1. I still prefer the first game, but this one is good too.

The game was good for it's time but I felt like it lost it's identity from the first one. The first game felt unique and didn't play like a typical space shooter, but this one feels a little generic compare to the first game.

Notice that this gameplay is indeed tool assisted, the movements are too perfect and "he" never use a single bomb in most of the game. Also, the fact that he never get hit a single time shows how much of a hack this gameplay is. No human can have those reflexes.

maybe not a hack, but I concede I have a hell of a hard time even understanding what goes on the screen, and trust me i'm no noob in Schmups, let alone hardcore gaming in general ever since the Nes of which I am a veteran player. This is craziness incarnate. I quit after facing boss 1. I will not be able to get past this unless I use up all of my bombs and even then there is a chance I'll miss somewhere. Way too extremely punitive to me, smashes my personal acceptable difficulty threshold by an enormous margin. Like gigantic, universal. We aren't machines, and we have a life outside, means this game cannot be beaten since it has checkpoints after lives lost and continues, no possible way to stack up the bullet sponges by counting on respawns. So you can pretty much hit a damn insurmontable wall at some point and never , ever get past a certain section in which you'll be forbidden to even upgrade enough. Die once and you're screwed is clearly applicable here. And even then, I'll say after second thoughts that upgrades don't even seem to matter that much. I say again, I am not even saying it is hard, I am saying this is utter , unbelievable madness starting at boss 1 when homing energy balls start coming your way. Margin for maneuver hence error is so extremely tiny. Insanity, I tell you. Checkpoints mean no insane amount of training will change anything for the vast majority of even dedicated player. Tried 10 min, quitting. Kudos to the one gaming here, because this is not human.

This game is so shit, seriously, stupid patterns, enemies coming out of nowhere, not a single decent subweapon, and a life system that makes continuing meaningless. On top of that some of the patterns in stage 5 and 6 are unavoidable if you don't hit near max speed.
