After experiencing my parents getting a divorce because my dad cheated, I will tell you that a cheater does NOT care about his family. Adultery is the most heartbreaking thing, and although I’m a fan of second chances, it should never be given a second chance. It will happen again.
@erenssister.5535
@erenssister.5535 Жыл бұрын
My friend's dad cheated on her mom multiple times. It really messed her up. Worse thing is, it made her feel less important. Because her dad would always make excuses to see his mistress. He wasn't allowed on her graduation and that guy tried to blame it on her because "doesn't support his happiness". Luckily the mom got married to a much better man who treated her better than her dad. Her step dad paid for her college. He would always arrange father-daughter activities. Even if she is happy she still feels empty inside knowing that her own father would rather care for his mistress than his own family. Funny thing, the mistress was a gold digger who maxed out all his credit card. He came crawling back to them. Still she feels neglected. Cheaters are literally the most selfish person on this earth. They don't just cheat on their spouses but also their entire family. That's why I don't believe in reconciliation.
@jasandraholmes3459
@jasandraholmes3459 Жыл бұрын
Thats not always true. I know one family really well, where the husband cheated, and then turned himself around and actually was able to work on himself and his family and marriage and actually change. He has not cheated since, and regrets it more than anything else in his life. He's actually grown from it and used the experience as a teachable moment to his daughter and young men, helping them to learn from his mistakes and hopefully avoid the temptation to cheat. Never write another human off. You may be angry or hurt, but you must realize they are human too; they WILL hurt you and make mistakes just as you WILL hurt them and make mistakes. The biggest tell of their true character will be how they choose to handle the consequences. They will eitber grow and become a better human or write themselves off into a self centered individual. Whichever they choose, at the end of the day they live and die with those consequences. Always bear that in mind: cheaters always pay on the deathbed. There's always regret and loneliness there, for those mistakes that were made.
@JessicaTayB
@JessicaTayB Жыл бұрын
@@jasandraholmes3459 That’s extremely rare for someone to actually change after doing that. For the most part, you might as well call off the marriage. People do make mistakes, but this is one that makes you lose your family. When the person is abusive or extremely toxic towards you, it’s 100% ok to write them off. I had to stop talking to my father. My whole family did, as well. And that’s ok. You wouldn’t just leave a leech on your arm and expect it to stop hurting you. The only way to stop someone from continuously disappointing or hurting you is to stop communication altogether.
@jasandraholmes3459
@jasandraholmes3459 Жыл бұрын
@@JessicaTayB that is true. However most often cheating is the result of mistakes on both sides. While it is rare, I believe like Brett says, it boils down to commitment and morality. People absolutely can change. They can choose stay the same. It's not the same as extremely toxic or abusive either. That is a separate issue. What I am saying here is don't hold a grudge or treat a person without mercy or grace. He made a grave mistake, he should have known better. He is in the wrong, absolutely. His wife would be in the right to leave. However she would also be in the right to try to work it out with him. It may be rare for people to try to work things out and maybe that's because we live in a graceless, commitementless, embittered culture where grudges are stronger than grace, forgiveness and love. Just something to consider. Maybe that is why it is so rare for men to even try to make it work. Perhaps its a bad heart, but maybe it's just the feeling he won't be forgiven. Just a thought and something to look into.

@@jasandraholmes3459here’s a statistic for you. “It is estimated that if someone cheated before, there is a 350 percent chance that they will cheat again, compared to those who have never cheated. In the same study that states that cheaters will cheat again, they found that those who have been cheated on will most likely be cheated on again.” 350% chance. A cheater is most likely going to cheat on you again. People can change, but that doesn’t mean the person cheated on is obligated to forgive them. Once you cheat, the ball is in the other partner’s court. They can choose to forgive; or to drop you. And tbh, I don’t think anyone can be faulted for not wanting to pursue a relationship once the partner cheated.

My parents and I went to the wedding of a family friend last week. They did the whole "all married couples to the dance floor, please" thing. By the end of it, my parents were the final couple on the dance floor. Come January, they will have been married 30 years. It hasn't been absolute bliss for 30 years, but they've fought for it and for each other and our family. My dad turned down promotions because it would mean less time with his sons. My mom has been a homemaker more of the marriage than not because of health issues. Marriage isn't a "social construct" it's a choice. It's a vow. "In sickness and in health" isn't until it no longer becomes convenient. "For richer or for poorer" isn't until it becomes too hard. My parents have absolutely gone to bed with huge arguments, but they've always known the other loves them unconditionally. My dad has taught me what it is to be a good husband and father, and I can only hope I'm half the one he has been to my mom.

I had a similar situation happen to me. We were married for over 10 years with 3 kids, and he had an affair with a coworker. We separated when I found out that the affair had continued on (when he had told me it hadn’t). Then he got her pregnant and didn’t tell me or our kids. A couple of months after our divorce was finalized, he married her…and again, did not tell our kids. Our kids hate the woman too btw. Since we’ve been separated, he’s tried to hook up with me several times…even since they’ve been married. I told him *I* don’t sleep with married men. Emphasis on the I. If someone is willing to break up their family to get with you, of course they’d be willing to do the same to you. People are way too willing to let the devil into their hearts, man. He may well have cared. It’s a defense mechanism but we humans can’t seem to accept anymore that two things can be true. We’ve been trained that either something is exactly how we expect or it is a lie. We expect perfection in others while demanding tolerance of our own misdeeds mistakes. It is a defense mechanism because to admit it is possible to both care deeply about family but slip up is to admit it could happen to us or our spouse. So we jump to “it was all a lie” to avoid facing reality. Now before someone’s knees get out of control - yea you can do the same. You like to believe you wouldn’t, and maybe you wouldn’t. But that is a choice not a lack of ability. Lacking ability doesn’t make you virtuous. Possessing capability but choosing to makes a virtuous choice.

I once found a reddit post where they ask if cheating on your spouse was worth it. Most of the replies were no and they felt guilty because they could've had a wonderful life together and raise their kids together in a wonderful home but they threw it all away. Even those who married their own Affair partners have expressed that they thought marriage with their affair partner would be different. They would get the satisfaction they never had in their previous marriage. But they were wrong. They only stuck on that marriage because they are afraid to make the same mistakes. But they feel empty inside most of the time. Cheating is not worth it. I don't know when will people learn.

Some people underestimate what cheating like this actually means. It's not just a broken trust, which is bad enough. It's exposing your spouse to potential health issues like STDs that they never would have had to worry about from their own monogamous behavior. For a celebrity it's exposing your entire family to the public eye in the worst way. It's the example you set for your children. Your sons might be led to think this behavior is normal for a man and your daughters may be led to believe this is the best they can hope for so they'd better just prepare for it. It's levels of awful that can't fully be described.

I mean of course there's poly and open relationships but it's only okay if both people are fully aware of them sleeping others and are okay with it. But in no way is it okay to potentially ruin or even end your partner's life via cheating with not only STD but also potentially crazy love sick people ( one may cheat and sleep with someone who gets so jealous of the partner that they end the life of said partner) without both people's consent. That's not OK in any sense.

Both of them came from very long term relationships so STD's probably aren't a concern and the kids have more then one parent. They could possibly believe it's normal and what they should expect but they also have their mother to tell them different and validate their true worth. They also have plenty of money for therapists from the sounds of it. Yes, it's stupid and shitty and very public but people grieve and move on. She's been with me for the entire 21+ years I've been in the Army. Nearly half of that time has been spent apart because of job requirements. For the last three plus years we've had to live apart because of our careers. In all of that time, we've stayed faithful to each other and our love for one another has never faded. It takes committment to make a marriage work, and if we can keep our marriage strong and not cheat on each other despite spending so much time apart, then there is no reason why anyone else can't do that either. People also need God back in their lives. They need faith. People are trying to fill a spiritual hole with self while not realizing that nothing will fill that void unless it is with God through Christ. When you live for God then you are more likely to learn that you have to put yourself aside for many things in this world such as with your family. Marriage is a responsibility and obligation where you have to put yourself aside and CHOOSE your marriage. It's a lot easier to keep yourself morally grounded when you put God in the middle of everything. Society needs God to be more healthy and without Him in it then everyone lives only for themselves and their pleasure. A pleasure that leaves them more and more empty as time goes on.

Start by getting rid of "no fault" divorce. Marriage in its current state is a TERRIBLE deal for men in all regards - legal, emotional, sexual, all of it. Women have everything to gain in marriage and everything to gain again in divorce. They can't lose and men can't win. The vast majority of divorces are filed by women. And yet it's men who are supposed to propose, which is why lately we've seen marriage rates plummeting. There are plenty of men who would love to be married but they've seen the havoc divorce wreaked on their father or friends/colleagues and so they don't propose even if they have a long term girlfriend. The producer in this story was dating for 10 years. Do you think Brett or anyone else is going to do a story on how J Lo being divorced 3 times sets a bad example for women/marriage? Or how Gisele divorcing Tom Brady is wrong? Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie just hired divorce lawyers. Did these guys cheat? No. Are the women divorcing them and getting a huge cash prize and custody of the kids as a reward? Yes.

Cheating is vile no matter when, but when you’re engaged normally you’re just so excited to marry your fiancé and so head over heels for them, you’re looking forward to the rest of your life and wanting to do whatever you can to build a strong foundation. How do people end up cheating during that stage? If you realize you want something different, it’s your last chance to call it quits and you should do that instead of just marrying the person anyway and sneaking around. Make it make sense

From what I learned from watching my parents is that there is no such thing as special someone. You as a couple have to just grow and mature together as the years go by. My parents have been married for 35 years now. My mom and dad were young when they got married. They had fights and arguments. Some people actually thought they would divorce because they once had public fights but they always had each other's back. They were each other's friends when needed. They were each others caregiver when it was needed. They were each others lovers when needed. They never cheated on each other or was abusive. No matter how bad things were, they never broke the married vow. That's why among all their friends they have a family that's functional and not divorced. People now a days want the comfort that comes with marriage but they don't want to take any responsibility that comes with it.

It opens up too many opportunities for a woman to have alone time with a man and to fulfill the role as his helpmeet. That's a wife's role. I do not condone the behaviour of Ned, Adam or any of the men mentioned... but I don't understand why the mistresses are not receiving the same hate. I don’t think the problem is “hookup culture” and that marriage and monogamy is the answer to everyone’s relationship, even the opposite. Maybe now that people see that relationships can come in different shapes but still is frowned upon, they try to stick to the get married have kids trope and fail miserably and cheat instead of being honest and communicating. It’s funny how people ask couples that are in a polygamous relationship if they are not afraid of jealousy and cheating,when in my opinion, it couldn’t be further from the truth. And honestly, I think the biggest motive for people to get married these days is so shallow. I get it, you want the perfect wedding and the perfect family portrait, but you have to earn it ( men and women), don’t think your problems will go away once you put that ring on the finger.

Horrible people exist regardless of gender, the hurt makes people less trusting tho and more willing to stereotype which is an unfortunate side effect :(. But let’s not forget the woman who he cheated with was also at fault, she had a fiancé, in the end it isn’t a matter of gender but of the human condition, there are good and bad apples and we have to try to remember that.

Understandable why Ned is spoken about more but, considering the other woman was already in a relationship too, this isn't something to make one simply untrusting of men, nor simply women. If anything, one should be more untrusting of PEOPLE. The more I study the wrongdoings of people, the more I side-eye people who view people differently based on "muh sexes" or "muh (*can't count everybody*) statistics". Now, I want to stay alone forever and never have kids as I don't want to have a reason to leave them with any boy or girl or woman or man even if I know them, cause people in general do TOO much to kids. No specific gender targeting from me, EVERYBODY'S getting flamed.

I am so glad you did not paint ALL men in a bad way, I am not famous or influential in any way. I however was left by my wife of 13 years and she literally packed two bags and moved a continent away for a man she had an eight month internet affair with. I became a single father two primary school children and broke (we had a business together, her lawyers killed that) and well I am ranting now but suffuse it to say she simply walked away from what we (Our community of friends) thought was a great relationship. Since that time I now have severe commitment issues and don't feel I can commit to another woman ever again. Sorry if this seems a little off topic but I needed to say your video hit home hard ( in a positive way) Commitment today seems like it's as disposable as toilet paper.

Yes! Declaring love for someone all the time and pretending you have the most perfect relationship in public and on social media IS A MASSIVE RED FLAG!! I have seen this time and time again. The most private and quiet couples are usually the happiest. People who are insecure about relationships need that very public attention towards their relationship.

To me, this falls under the “happy couples don’t need to post all over social media about how happy they are” trend. It’s usually the couples that post the overly lovey dove stuff are the ones with the biggest issues. Generally, the truly happy couples don’t post much about their relationship, as they just want to make their significant other happy.

@Rosie_C
@Rosie_C Жыл бұрын
I think some of it has to do with the mentality that you always need to have a GF/BF and it’s okay when you’re young to go around giving your heart to multiple people. My ex-husband and I were both raised in really good homes and there was no reason it shouldn’t have worked out. When he was a teen, he had multiple girlfriends and it just seems like people get used to hopping around. And like you said, we didn’t have a bad relationship at all, but he just went on to another girl.
@rothman182
@rothman182 Жыл бұрын
The boredom is a result of hookup culture. When you're dating you're swiping and texting and dating and sleeping with a lot of different people, and it's exciting. When you settle down with one person it can certainly feel boring in comparison. Men also get an ego boost by having multiple women to themselves. Both this dude and Adam Levine had long term wives and kids. They argue with their wives over the dirty dishes in the sink, who's going to change the next diaper, all kinds of stuff. The bedroom probably got stale as well. Then along comes a hot young thing who worships your every step. Who has never, ever nagged you about dirty dishes or dirty socks on the ground. Who is fun and flirty and always nice and sweet to you and gives you butterflies again and makes your wildest bedroom fantasies come true. It's an easy temptation to give in to. The same thing happens to women I'm sure.

Dalton Conley has an essay on the topic of disintegrating social connections and especially how global interconnectedness has devalued deep relationships. He wrote the paper in 2009 and focused on how things like MySpace and Facebook had contributed to these issues and I'm honestly shocked that we could have let it get this far that we look at relationships based on their convenience and profitability.

3:44 THANK YOU for bringing this up! It was so frustrating to hear the lament of the incels out there decrying the fact that "the guy" got fired and "the girl" did not. You're EXACTLY right! Even if she had a morality clause in her employment contract, the fact that the nature of her violation of said clause made it really tricky. And they'd have to think long and hard about firing her on that basis. Even Ned was likely not "fired." I'd bet he willingly parted left. I'm sure even he knew that he couldn't stick around. The stain on their brand alone would've put a big hurt on their business. He was probably bought out. There are provisions in their LLC operating agreement that would've spelled this procedure out. As for her, she'll likely not want to stick around either. And again, the fellas don't want a lawsuit on their hands so they won't flat-out "fire" her unless they're assured by their attorneys that it won't blow up in their faces. With her, I'm guessing they're negotiating some severance agreement to cover their asses when they cut her loose. But again, thank you for spelling it out. It would've taken just a smidgen of critical thinking for the other folks to come up with that themselves. Man, I hate myopic takes.
