His dad, Farooq Abdullah was the CM of Jammu and Kashmir during the 1990s Kashmiri Pandit genocide and he remained a mute spectator during that unfortunate time. The government of India put Omar and Farooq under home confinement aka house arrest for almost 7-8 months, immediately after the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019
